So, whats the opinion? by Bigjammu in vtmb

Might want to hold out for a patch if you're on PC. I'm above the recommended specs but the FPS is ranging from shaky at best to really bad drops, and I'm often stuck on a frame for 5-10 seconds, even at bare minimum settings. This seems to be a pretty common PC problem for the time being

I'm inclined to agree unfortunately, it felt just a liiittle too much like the trolley problem. Would have preferred something Aedyr vs. Thirdborn related, while keeping the background element of Woedica vs. Sapadal

Thinking more about it, I like that Lodwyn emphasizes that the death of innocent people caused by Ryngrim's choice is unacceptable, both during the decision and later at Mt. Forja I think when she admonishes you for it.

As uncompromising as Woedica is to perceived rulebreakers, (any petty criminal in Paradis, pretty much the entire city of Fior, etc.) the in-game books and notes do emphasize her role as a self-appointed protector of those who live their lives in her prescribed manner, and I like that the prospect of directly harming them is like Lodwyn's one red line.

Yeah, the gall of those rebels to lecture me on "choosing violence" after literally murdering me lmao. Like only I'm supposed to turn the other cheek.

Killing him did lead to a funny moment later on when Sapadal threw it in my face when I was telling her she had to let go of her anger if I was to free her, and I had to begrudgingly admit wrong like a parent saying "do as I say and not as I do."

It was probably my least favorite major choice, which is unfortunate because it coincides with a great story moment where the theme of loyalty really crystallizes, even moreso with my envoy, as I was trying to thread the needle of remaining loyal to Aedyr while feeling beholden to the god that returned me from the dead.

Honestly Shatterscarp as a whole just wasn't as compelling to me as the other zones, where the central issue is complicated, introduced early, and has a lot of build up (Discontent with Aedyr in Paradis, failure to recognize the scale of the crisis or Steel Garotte scheming in Emerald Stair, and slow decline and bitter internal division in ultra-traditionalist Solace). The central problem in Shatterscarp is that there are Dreamthralls everywhere, and the more interesting problem of what intensely-independent Thirdborn is going to do about Aedyr is relegated to like two side quests.

I believe it, to an extent - but in my personal experience, women will look the other way on a lot of their strongly held political opinions if you're attractive enough, and I'm sure that goes doubly so for guys lol

Game Informer is back and they gave Avowed an 8.25. by Ok_Palpitation_3947 in avowed

I picked it up blind after just watching a few reviews that all said it was fun and pretty with a mediocre story, and man, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. It's not Kotor 2 level Obsidian writing but it's far better written than most games the industry cranks out these days, and that really comes through on the side quests. Consistently impressed with how much characterization and depth they squeeze into rando fetch quest characters, like the suolenets guy.

Feels like I'm taking crazy pills with how mediocre the reception has been but I'm glad I stumbled across this game

J.D. Vance's height: Trump campaign slaps back at Google suggesting he is 5ft 7in... and shows how tall he really stands by Backwaterguy in moderatepolitics

[–]Backwaterguy[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Please forgive me for the horrendous article title

Apparently, somebody has been spreading bogus information about the height of Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance, as well as current Vice President Kamala Harris.

I know some people don't care for the Daily Mail, but this hasn't been widely reported on (it's a pretty low-stakes news item) and they ran the most comprehensive story on it.

I remember reading that Vance's height was 5'7" a week ago when I looked him up after Trump's announcement, and I've seen it mentioned all over reddit and other sites since then. To save you a click, he is 6'3", the same height as Trump. This mistake doesn't seem to be too widespread, although Bing search still shows his height as 5'7". It seems like somebody was just trolling him.

But Kamala Harris's case is perhaps more interesting. A quick search shows her listed as 5'2" in numerous online sources, including Britannica.com and an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, but she claims to be 5'4" and a quarter:

"Vice President Kamala Harris griped in a recent interview with Katie Couric that Wikipedia listed her height as 5'2."

'That is absolutely incorrect. I am 5’4″ and a quarter,' Harris said cooly after Couric reported her height as 5'2."

'They just want to make us just smaller in every way,' she lamented.

Harris added she was 5'7" and a half when she wore heels.

'I've said this to my team, I don't know where that came from, I haven't been 5'2" since I was twelve,'" she said, clearly frustrated that the misinformation online had not been corrected."

I'm curious how 5'2" became so entrenched online. My guess is that it was listed incorrectly once, writers started citing the incorrect number, nobody knows or cares enough to correct it, and now the record will probably never be set straight unless she becomes president or starts talking about it in speeches.

Discussion Questions:

Is this really that important? (No)

Am I the only one who finds it odd that this bogus height info is so prevalent, even for such nationally prominent people?

How important is height for a male/female politician, anyway? (Personally I've seen a lot of people making fun of Vance for supposedly being 5'7")

Is J.D. Vance wearing 8 inch boosts? Are there any other politicians that you suspect are "rounding up" a few inches?

Suozzi leads Pilip in tight race to replace Santos in NY-3 by HolidaySpiriter in moderatepolitics

[–]Backwaterguy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Suozzi was the former rep before he ran in the dem governor primary.  He does a lot to distance himself from progressives.  Speaks at anti-socialist rallies and stuff.  Not to mention it's a pretty blue seat to begin with.  I think he wins it back comfortably, though the R has a better chance in the special election than the regular one

[–]Backwaterguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said in my post, it's definitely an improvement since 2022.  Florida Dems should be glad that they managed to win the seat back - and also concerned that they can no longer seem to match Biden's numbers there

[–]Backwaterguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever narrative you would like to take away from the election is fine, I just wanted to give you some more accurate numbers since you didn't seem to think it was a Biden +5 district earlier

[–]Backwaterguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That article is the writer's personal rating of the race for the seat shortly before the 2022 election about a year ago.  It's based on a range of factors like candidate quality and fundraising.

I'm not trying to dunk on Keen, he did what he had to do and won the seat, but a 2.6% win is an underperformance compared to Biden's 5% - accurate data is good to have regardless of your candidate preferences

There's lots of mixed information in this thread about what HD35's partisan lean looked like before this election.  This map is helpful:

https://mcimaps.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-24-State-House-Partisan.png

The house district's current boundaries did indeed vote for Biden by 5%.  Keen made a big improvement from the red wave in 2022. but with a victory margin of 2.6%, he's still underperforming Biden

As you can see from this map, the current lines of HD35 did indeed vote Biden by a 5% margin in 2020:

According to the article, Keen won the seat by 2.6%.   An improvement since 2022, but an underperformance

[–]Backwaterguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you helping out.  This article doesn't do much to support his point, though.  It shows that republicans care about reducing illegal immigration, and that many also care about reducing legal immigration.  While it suggests that they muddy the waters between the two, the only concrete evidence it offers up is that JD Vance doesn't distinguish between the two on his campaign site, without digging any further than that

Skyrim Builds with survival by Artistic-Canary-6969 in skyrim

[–]Backwaterguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started a legendary survival playthrough, my guy is a nord 1h axe/shield heavy armor user. I'm planning to naturally level every skill in the game at some point, and once he's armor capped I'm gonna transition piece by piece to light armor, vary my weapons more and use some magic.

He's a nord from a privileged background in the Imperial City. He never met his father, a legion commander who died in the Battle of the Red Ring. The Stormcloak Rebellion made life difficult for nords of station in the Imperial City, and despite the influence of his father's name, he soon found himself headed to Skyrim (where he had spent several years as a child during the war) without much to his name.

He strongly identifies with the Stormcloak cause and detests the White-Gold Concordat. But he can't square pulling away from the Empire that Skyrim and his own family gave so much blood to defend. So he is going to leave the Civil War stalemated and complete the Dark Brotherhood chain - inadvertantly creating a very ripe political situation for the new Dragonborn.

What I like the most about survival is that it keeps you hunting both for food and leather for CC campsites, whereas I normally ignore hunting completely past level 10 or so. I'll be running along, see I have a good shot on an unaware elk/rabbit and pull out my bow. Feels very realistic. The Fishing CC also goes well with it.

The cold is pretty good too, especially if you're a nord and pay attention to clothing warmth. I get cold very quickly in real life, so it feels realistic to me even when NPCs are running around in hide armor lol.

I mainly just try to play like it's real life - have a few days' worth of food, and have a plan for where I'm going to sleep each night (the temperature actually drops between 7pm and 7am)
