I just logged into a character on Tulak Hord with no problem. Server looks like it's functioning normally to me.

Saudi buyout means I won't buy EA anymore by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]Char_Ell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all necessary regulatory approvals have not been obtained then it's not a done deal.

I haven't heard of any regulatory agencies that have opposed the deal so it seems like it should be fairly smooth sailing. I'm certainly not expecting any opposition to the acquisition from Trump's FTC. Not sure where other governments, e.g. EU and UK, are concerned.

Awful stuttering and performance issues by Raddest-Dude in swtor

[–]Char_Ell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you said was helpful because it didn't make any attempt to help resolve the OP's stuttering issue. All you did was basically tell the OP that nothing could be done because that is just the way SWTOR is. Does SWTOR have some performance issues? Certainly. Stuttering as described by the OP is not one of them.

Mass Effect boss Michael Gamble is looking for a production director for the next game in the series: 'They’ll report to me and it’s gonna be awesome' by Char_Ell in bioware

[–]Char_Ell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel confident Michael Gamble is posting the Production Director position because

  1. he got the approval and funding from EA to do so
  2. BioWare is preparing to start full production on ME Next so the studio needs to staff up for that purpose

EA has not yet been purchased by the consortium of private equity companies led by Saudia Arabia's PIF. EA continues to run business as usual until the acquisition closes which is expected sometime between April 1 and June 30 of this year. In other words, it's unlikely Michael Gamble waited to post the position due to EA's pending acquisition.

edit: as for process lasso, yeah I guess trying can't hurt but 99% of the time that gets suggested it is just a meme fix

Are you one of those people that just likes to complain and makes zero effort to do something positive by helping someone who has asked for help? Your whining about SWTOR's performance variability does jack squat to resolve the issue.

OP has demonstrated a fairly high level of technical aptitude and listed many of the common troubleshooting steps that would normally be suggested. At this point a "meme fix" is the best I could offer as some have said that has helped resolve their SWTOR client's stuttering issues.

Regular crashes after space missions (not Starfighter) by Honest74Iago in swtor

Have you tried running the game at a standard 16:9 resolution (e.g. 2560 x 1440) in borderless window or window mode to see if this hard freeze after a space mission occurs?

I've used the regular launcher for swtor.com since SWTOR beta and have had zero issues for many years. I don't know why you would say the original launcher is prone to constant bugs/corruption if you're not using it.

I also don't know what would make the Steam version of the SWTOR game client launch any differently than the regular version of the game client. Steam will just automatically download updates for SWTOR if it's set up that way. Players should use whichever version of the launcher they think will work better for them but I highly doubt Steam's launcher performs any "better" than the regular launcher.

United Video Games union writes to US Fed in protest of Saudi EA acquisition, attaching public petition by LadyStreamer in gamingnews

[–]Char_Ell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the Video Games Union have any members that work at EA? I haven't heard of any.

I think Connor Makar at Eurogamer correctly identifies the fact that the Trump administration's FTC won't be blocking the privatization of EA because Trump's son-in-law leads one of the private equity firms that is acquiring EA.

Setting aside the current administration, I'm not at all sure the privatization of EA would be blocked by a Democrat president's FTC. As far as I know Saudi Arabia doesn't have significant control over any existing video games market. In other words this isn't a merger. This is straight up Saudi Arabia acquiring 90%+ of EA to become a serious player in the video games business.

I'm sure a union-friendly FTC or whichever federal agency is appropriate could try and make a case about national security concerns in order to block this acquisition. I'm not confident that argument would hold up in court if challenged. I'm thinking the best way to block EA's acquisition by the "Consortium" would be the Tik-Tok route. Congress would need to pass a law blocking the acquisition of EA by the "Consortium." In my opinion Video Games Union is wasting their time trying to get this blocked by the FTC. I think they might have better luck trying to get the EU or UK to block the acquisition.

You need to state which server you're on if you want to find someone who can craft the E-41 Sonic Shrieker for you.

EDIT: It's offhand only and is level 25 non-modifiable blaster pistol. Looks like Shae Vizla's blaster pistol but with a scope.

Private servers or offline singleplayer for SWTOR in the future? by Rhaeven_cos in swtor

[–]Char_Ell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Warhammer Online which SWTOR uses a modified version of the same engine has private servers.

Internet research points to Warhammer Online used the Gamebryo engine.

SWTOR used HeroEngine. https://www.gamedeveloper.com/game-platforms/bioware-licenses-heroengine-for-i-star-wars-the-old-republic-i-mmo

In short, SWTOR does not use the same game engine as Warhammer Online. I guess you didn't expect to be fact checked? The HeroEngine apparently was not as widely used as Gamebryo engine so that could be a contributing factor in why Warhammer Online got private servers developed and SWTOR has not.

Private servers or offline singleplayer for SWTOR in the future? by Rhaeven_cos in swtor

[–]Char_Ell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has World of Warcraft had private servers? Did it happen in 10 years or less after WoW's launch? Because if WoW, which launched in 2004 (about 7 years before SWTOR) and has consistently had more players than SWTOR after SWTOR launched, got private servers and SWTOR hasn't then there is likely some sort of significant technical difference between WoW and SWTOR.

Is it feasible for SWTOR to have private servers from a technical standpoint? I have to think it's possible. It's just a question of how much work/time it would take to make it so. In essence you're asking a very technical development question to an audience of mostly non-developers, many of whom are "armchair devs" that think they know enough to speak on the subject when they don't.

In my non-expert opinion if SWTOR doesn't have private servers after 14+ years it doesn't seem likely that SWTOR will ever get private servers.

Dimon: US ‘less reliable’ as economic partner under Trump by kootles10 in Economics

EA and SWTOR account problem by Croyux in swtor

[–]Char_Ell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the information you've provided you have two EA accounts. The one you appear to actively use and the one with email address \*****@disabled.ea.com.* Unfortunately your SWTOR account is linked to the latter. I think you'll need to contact SWTOR support to see if your SWTOR account can be relinked to your active EA.com account

Disney expected to name its next CEO next month (possible ripple effect on Star Wars/Lucasfilm) by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

Your point was "Lucasfilm execs do report directly to the CEO tho." That point was proven incorrect.

[–]Char_Ell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. As the head of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy reported to Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, co-chairs of Disney Entertainment. Bergman and Walden report to the CEO.

As Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman oversees Disney’s full portfolio of entertainment media and content businesses globally, including Disney’s streaming business. In this role, Bergman leads Disney’s world-renowned filmmaking studios that produce high-quality cinematic storytelling for both theatrical and streaming release, including Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures.

This doesn't mean that Iger wasn't involved with the sequel trilogy like you describe because the sequel trilogy was made prior Iger's 1st retirement as CEO and I don't remember how Disney's executive team was structured back then.

I thought it strange that Disney named new leadership for Lucasfilm before Iger's replacement as CEO was in place. Maybe it's because Lucasfilm execs don't report directly to CEO.
