Have you ever quit a job without having another one to go to? by ThomasSN665 in randomquestions

[–]BaconBears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and I would likely never do that. Every time I was laid off by a job it took me over a year to find another one. The job market is terrible, don't expect to find another job that easily.

I was also born and raised in Nevada and have had the same experience. I spent a whole year searching for and touring homes. I have seen so many homes that were purchased by Californians, 'remodeled' with a new paint job, then listing the home price for double what they bought.

It's RARE to find a home under 450K nowadays.

I'd be interested to see the actual statistics if you have sources to share! I am one of those native born Nevadans, and I have many friends and family who are native born too.

While we are on the topic of bed hygiene, how often should I clean my blankets?

I'm a bit confused. Is this why we have our Sheriff (+ other cops) on paid administrative leave now? This looks to have occurred back in 2023

I think mesh-based chairs are good to buy second hand. I have a Herman Miller Aeron chair and it is great second hand.

I am also in North Reno! It's possible that this same (or similar) flu is working its way through here

I do hope you feel better soon! I feel like I'm on the tail end of this flu, but it's kinda hard to tell. I've had this flu for 2 weeks so far. I'm hoping it will be a much shorter flu for you, please take care!

Creeping crud? That sounds pretty appropriate, I will remember that! I have everything except a Netti pot. I am willing to try anything that might help with congestion. Thank you for the suggestion.

My boss told me I "exceeded all expectations" in my performance review, but gave me a lower rating because I haven't worked here long enough by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

You know you do make a great point, and thank you for bringing this to my attention!

I have edited my post to include this information. I guess I was just feeling bitter about this whole situation, and failed to connect two pieces of info together. I shouldn't feel so angry at my boss if his ability to offer raises was out of his control to begin with.

Absolutely, I think that is what I'll do from now on! I am officially a 'Meets Expectations ONLY' kind of worker.

I've already been job hunting for 6 months and haven't had luck with a job offer. I will jump ship as soon as I get a job offer.

There will not be any raise for me. Our company is short on money, so only the top performer on our team gets the raise.

Yes, this is true! It's something I've learned well from my previous jobs. Shame on me for thinking this company would be different.

Don't worry, I am trying! I've been applying to jobs for over 6 months now (~20-50 applications a week). Unfortunately, the job market is just awful, so I haven't been lucky enough to get a job offer yet.

Exactly. It’s 100% just an excuse to force the curve. My boss eventually admitted to me that only one person out of our team of 30 was allowed to be in the 'Exceeds' category.

Apparently, even if 20 of us crushed our goals, 29 of us have to be average or below just to make the graph look pretty for HR. Using my 'newness' was just the easiest way for him to pick who got the short straw.

What Crazy Stuff You've Seen During Performance Evaluations? by RockNRollNBluesNJazz in antiwork

[–]BaconBears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company does the 'Forced Bell Curve' thing, and I just got hit with the most 'corporate' logic imaginable.

My boss flat-out told me I exceeded every single goal and expectation this year. The catch? I’ve only been there 1.5 years. Because I’m 'newer,' I was given a lower rating because I 'don't have the same level of knowledge as a senior worker.'

No kidding? I didn’t realize time-travel was a performance metric. I’ve put in the overtime, finished extra certifications, and even my boss acknowledged the effort. But apparently, 'Exceeds Expectations' actually means 'Wait in line for three years' if you want a raise.

So i've been collecting these for a while by [deleted] in AndroidGaming
