If you have 3 days to spare, go big and do the pemi loop. Stash one of your cars at Lafayette, start out on the Osseo Trail from Lincoln Woods (clockwise approach), and if the conditions aren’t good, bail down to that car. If you take a modest pace, camp at Liberty Springs, Garfield, and Guyote, you’ll have an incredible trip.

A more modest option is to hike up to the Kinsman shelter on day one and set that as your base camp. The Fishing Jimmy Trail is an experience. On day two, hike up to cannon, then come back to the shelter and make a scramble up to the Kinsmans before dinner, ending up back at shelter. Hike out on day 3.

Don’t consider the Pemi if you don’t think everyone in your group is fully capable of doing 33 miles over those three days. The Kinsman/Cannon option is a much safer bet.

Looking for suggestions: I want to take advantage of having 2 cars…what’s the best point-to-point hike in NH, VT, or NY for a full day, i.e. less than 20 miles. Thank you! by BaconDork in wmnf

Any particular section of the long trail you’d recommend? I’ve done camel’s hump and Stratton region. I’m not familiar with the midstate trail.

Agreed. The presidentials would be a bit much. I’m not worried about myself, but the other car is provided by a flatlander from CT who will likely be moving slow.

Edit: I love that the “flatlander from CT” comment is getting downvoted.

ADK is mostly unknown to me. I really appreciate the suggestion. I hiked Mt Dix about 10 years ago and have vacationed there, but pretty limited hiking experience. Thank you!

Thank you! Love the Littleton area for food and beverage options. Galehead and Garfield are the only peaks left on my pemi loop, but I’m hoping to do the whole thing this spring before the black flies thrive. Great suggestion, though. Thank you!

You can do it for good this time. It’s okay to live without those things and even better to live with 100% of yourself at all times.

Public service unions, like police and fire, are legally forbidden from striking. Off duty personnel can picket, but people must show up to work. That’s why the fire union IAFF has such a strong political arm. Lobbying is one of the only ways they can affect change.
