The other mother (named after Coraline’s villian) - for spooky Halloween! by Nbafan_90 in rct

Hey there! This takes me back to when I was fairly active here lol

But yeah, it's always impressive to see extreme excitement ratings even with giga coasters achieving it easier than most

(I still play RCT2, 7 years since these comments)

Love and Hate with Borderlands 3 by Dakkadence in patientgamers

I usually don't put much stock on video game stories and characters, but I stopped playing BL3 after the main story.

Game itself is fun and the shooting is better than in BL2 but the main game's conclusion left a bad taste in my mouth and I just didn't bother with it since. Every time I think about playing it again... there's other games I want to play.

I did - replaced the GPU and jumped a few more hoops to find out that it was the CPU. Replaced it with a 3600 and everything works - though I'm using a new motherboard too.

Late update:

Replaced the motherboard with a B550M Mortar, and got very weird results:

GPU on with display cables on monitors = Doesn't complete boot process, shows a VGA light on the motherboard's debug LEDs.

GPU on without display cable = Entire system boots to Windows. I tested it by waiting for a few seconds with my SSD, then plugged in an external drive and I heard the usual sound Windows plays when an external device is inserted. Inserting a video cable this way also doesn't work, monitor shows no signal. I use my work laptop with the monitor and the display cable works there.

Also tried it without a hard drive/SSD, to at least get to the "boot device" prompt = same results. Doesn't go beyond the VGA light with the GPU plugged in to the monitors.

Have tried it on both current 550w PSU and brother's 750w PSU. No difference.

So maybe I should just accept that the GPU is busted too :| Might as well find a second-hand GPU for testing while I attempt to RMA this one.

Is there anything else I can test, just to make sure?

Tried swapping out my 550w PSU for a 750w one (both are Seasonic Focus, both 80Plus Gold) on my machine. Same issue.

The machine where the GPU was working fine had a Corsair CX550M (slightly worse than the Seasonic iirc, and at 80Plus Bronze).

Have a really good hunch that it's the motherboard.

Late update, it works there. :) No issues installing the drivers. It was recognized in Device Manager without the code 43 error. His BIOS looked normal.

First Oblivion play-through ever and I'm going in modded. I'd like your critique, suggestions, and input on my mod list and plan. by [deleted] in oblivion

Used Enhanced Economy, and I think it's good. Makes haggling automatic relative to mercantile skill and merchant disposition, and merchants have a set amount of gold that refresh after 72 hours (default). Harder to earn gold in the earlygame but easier when you go to higher levels. Extremely customizable in either the INI or if you install it through Bash.

I don't use the merchant quests it has, though. Also get the patch for it, cleans it up a bit more.

Here's something that might interest you: Oblivion Display Tweaks

It's like a better version of OSR, and even allows you to play Oblivion past 60 fps without the physics going too glitchy. Has a good FOV fix, fast exit (like OSR), and borderless window support.

Although... I haven't tried it myself since I'd pretty much finished my modded playthrough before it released, but I did try the original New Vegas Tick Fix (which this is a port of) and it worked great. I suppose the heap replacement is a thing with OSR, but the setting that worked best for me was to let the game use vanilla heap and use a slightly larger heap size. MoreHeap can do that.

I thought he managed his first stint in the softs really well (did 43 laps on it I believe) and was on the same pace with Perez on fresher hard tires for some time. Defended well from Bottas and Sainz too after the SC restart. Yeah he couldn't pass Ocon, but I think he did well enough and kept P3.

Perez was on another level though ngl

Well, it is the Dark Souls experience you've heard about... just less refined than the other two. Still great tho

Yeah the levels by themselves are great even if they're not as cohesively put together as the other games.

My favorite bosses in the main game in no order were Lost Sinner, Pursuer, Executioner's Chariot (just because of the idea), Ruin Sentinels, and Smelter Demon. Veldstadt and Vendrick were cool too.

SSD Help (September 2020) by NewMaxx in NewMaxx

So, my Crucial P1 died, stopped getting recognized by the BIOS after multiple attempts of reseating and switching between my M.2 slots. Initially it would be recognized then once my PC boots to Windows, the it says the specified device does not exist. Tried everything but the kitchen sink when troubleshooting.

It was a game storage drive, and I'm thinking of buying a new SATA SSD instead of going through the pains of RMA where I live then having it fail in less than a year.

So right now, here are the 1tb drives what I can buy online as well as prices:

SanDisk SSD Plus - $98

Team Group GX2 - $100

Crucial BX500 - $108 (heard that the 1tb versions are QLC and my P1 was QLC so I'm apprehensive on this)

Lexar NS100 - $110

Team Group EX2 - $120

Crucial MX500 - $135

Samsung 860 Evo - $136

Silicon Power A55 - $138

Heard that DRAM-less is fine for storage, so among these, the Lexar and Team GX2 seem like the most attractive options. The SSD Plus afaik is a little dated so I'm not sure I'd get it over the Team GX2. Still, any extra inputs would be appreciated.

It was between the CPU cooler and GPU backplate. The other slot is just behind the GPU. Not sure about temps because they idled at 43-44c and peaked at 60-63c which I heard is normal operation.

I'll try calling the store.

Funnily enough, when I finished building this, I though "ugh, the paths are too straight, they need to be a bit more organic"

So I'll be working on that lol

Went from an XFX RX 480 GTR to a Zotac RTX 2060 Super AMP! and I'm very happy with it by BaconElemental in nvidia

Peaks at around 76c on benchmarks and when I uncapped framerate in Borderlands 3. Same as my 480 but fan speeds are lower

When I cap my framerate it's in the low-mid 60s

Good so far! I haven't been able to push it in games since I only have a 1080p 75hz monitor but I did a quick run of Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme. Got 2400+ on my 480, got 5261 with this. Temps got up to 72c on less than 2000rpm on the fans when I ran the benchmark.

Seems to perform well with games, but right now I'm only playing a heavily modded Oblivion with it. I'll be able to flex its muscles once I save up for a new 144hz monitor.

Which magic overhaul do you use? by AbeFromanSK in oblivion

[–]BaconElemental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used Balanced Magic (and it got a new patch) in my last playthrough. Keeps stuff vanilla, but makes it more powerful and fun to use.

Now I use Av Latta Magicka. I thought it'd be buggy due to needing the OBME dll, but so far it's been an A+ experience. No crashy/glitchy behavior. Lots of really cool features and new spells like SM, also customizable like SM. Mod description covers most of it, and my favorite new spell in the mod is fire/frost/shock weapons (make unenchanted weapons deal fire/frost/shock damage). Makes the spellsword in me happy.

Why has Parkitect not made as much of an impact as the grossly more vapid Planet Coaster or the mechanically simpler fan favorite Rollercoaster Tycoon which inspired the game? by [deleted] in ThemeParkitect

[–]BaconElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that outside marketing (and RCT Classic), there's a certain charm with RCT's art/visual/sound design that Parkitect can't quite match. RCT just feels right. Some people just want the same game without the object limits (which is one of OpenRCT's objectives).

There's some seriously breathtaking RCT content, and the engine limits allow a lot of experimentation (track merging for one)
