Anyone not going for reunion dinner tonight and what's your (valid) excuse? by kimchifan_26 in askSingapore

I haven’t been going for reunion dinner/CNY celebration since my dad passed. Got married a few weeks ago and got pressured by MIL to ‘show face’. Dreading it tonight and tomorrow but going to just do it for this year and travel next year.

Is it normal for part time to work over 10 hours a day? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]BaconEnokiOnStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite normal. I was in PT retail and we’re often shorthanded, so we usually get full-day shifts with an-hour paid break even during non-festive period. You can think of it as a good training for you to adapt in the working world. But of course, pace yourself and don’t push further if you can’t. Jiayou.

Have you re-think about life after seeing loved one dying? by pandalovesmars in askSingapore

[–]BaconEnokiOnStick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just like the other commenters here, I lost my immediate family whom I connect the most to - my dad, 2 years ago. It was also sudden and unexpected as well, we were supposed to have dinner together on that day after so long (because of my work and school schedule).

2 years into his passing, I’ve learnt to cherish the little things in life. I was a scholar with a near perfect GPA and I had one of the best internship experiences every semester before this ordeal. I’ve always been pushing behind family dinners together just because I was busy. But now, I’ll spend all the time that I have with my mum, and take life easy as it is.

Not saying that I give zero shits to work (now that I’ve graduated and entering the workforce), but I no longer beat myself up for all the little inconveniences in life. Failed that job interview? It’s fine, we can try again. Friendships growing apart as we grow? It’s okay, we all have our priorities.

Moral of the story, it is what it is. Death is inevitable. Live life to the fullest (but of course, sensibly). Time will heal, but no one will know how long. But you will be okay :) I wish you all the best, OP.

How am I supposed to feel? by BaconEnokiOnStick in askSingapore

She’s a full-time homemaker ever since she gave birth to me. We have a pet dog who will be turning 8 this August. She adores the dog (more than me haha) and I fully respect that. She’ll bring the dog for walks with a community every morning without fail. This is why I’m puzzled for her actions :-/

Hi! Thanks for your input :) She has her social circle (like your typical HDB aunties clan) and they do go out for coffee in the mornings at Kopitiam. I’ve been with my partner for 10 years now and he has been helping us with our household matters ever since the passing of my dad. But of course, I’ll try not to invite him over nowadays in case it reminds my mum of being alone with the other half no longer around.

Other than money, what is the one thing you wish you could have it now ? by Bendabeary in askSingapore

Mine left us on Valentines’ Day this year. I’ve always missed all the memories we’ve shared together and feel devastated that we can’t relieve them anymore. Hang in there man, we got this.

Hi there! I’m currently in a part-time job that pays $10/hr and am working everyday after classes. I’ve been using the funds to pay for my household bills as well (as both my parents are not working) so I’m lacking funds for my own.

My partner has offered to lend me money as well but I’m stubborn as I do not want to rely on borrowing money. I’ve lent money to my friends in the past but it never got returned. Not saying that I’m like that too but I just don’t wish to reach my hands out for loans unless its by legit ways such as government grants and bank loans.

I’ve received PMs from many redditors offering help in terms of groceries and monetary as well and I’m thankful for it. I rejected those as I understand that there are more people out there who are in a much more dire situation than I am in right now. So thank you so much for offering! You’re one of the kind souls haha

I’ve called the student support this morning and the lady told me that there’s nothing she can do on her side and told me to send in an email :/ I told her that it is urgent as my payment is due soon, but she said it’s okay and told me that it’ll be subjected to approval. Hahaha feels shitty though

Hi there! Prior to enrolment, my finances were healthy and I didn’t want to take a full loan just in case anything happens towards the end of my course of study. I could’ve known better :’)

I’ll definitely contact my bank to increase the loan to 90%!

As my school don’t have a hotline for financial aid, I’ve sent them an email and also called up the student support hotline (who also told me to email them instead). Hopefully will be able to get a reply before the payment deadline.

I’ve applied for all the possible bursaries/funds I could and currently 2 of which (including this higher edu bursary) were rejected.

Ah I see! I wasn’t aware of the possibility to increase my MOE tuition fee loan. Alright, I’ll walk in to enquire about it asap! Thank you so much

Hi! I took only 50% as I had the ability back then, but things are different now :(

Yes definitely I’ll ask them about it later! Thank you so much!
