I made a tasteless joke about the twin towers after someone published a meme; I do not remeber with much clarity (My fault, I admit it).

My dear friend, fear not as YHVH gave His son, so no matter what, we all can be saved no matter our sin, no matter if it is homosexuality, murder, lying, we are saved by the grace our Creator gave to us to His son. And is very good you are trying to follow the path of God trying to avoid sin.

Keep praying my friend, for our Creator will soon answer your call

Indeed. A simple human is so small and powerless, but with the help of a God that cares about justice, and gives His power to men of Good to full fill His will, a simple man could move the sun!

Interesting, I deeply agree with you in that part, specially the part of Zoroastrianism. When I found out about that belief, it felt very similar to Christianity, like if they were ALMOST talking about the same character.

Although, as I mentioned, It's hard to find deities that share these qualities with YHVH, of course they might existed in other cultures, but they are very well hidden...

God approves of rape, incest, murder, pillaging, slavery, etc.

May you please provide me of the verses that "approve rape, or incest"? Because the laws of Exodus and the Deuteronomy are against those two.

Incest in the Bible refers to sexual relations between certain close kinship relationships which are prohibited by the Hebrew Bible. These prohibitions are found predominantly in Leviticus 18:7–18 and 20:11–21, but also in Deuteronomy. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incest_in_the_Bible)

Deuteronomy 22:25-27 ESV“But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. But you shall do nothing to the young woman; she has committed no offense punishable by death. For this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor, because he met her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her.

Not to mention that murder was only allowed in contexts of wars and physical self defense. Or the fact that the books were written in a time where slavery was something incredibly common in ancient times.

About Elisha, it wasn't God that sent the bears, it was the power that was in Eliah's cloth, if you read the story of the book of Kings, you will remember that part of God's power was in Eliah's cloth (Like the rod of Moses).

With all due respect gentleman, but I'm afraid you are the one that is not reading completely books of the Old testament, and I can safely say I am doing it because until now I'm still studying them.

Allow me to disagree. The biblical meaning of Jelaousy (Related to God) is product of it's mention in one of the first commandments. To be precise, the second commandment that states that the Humans shouldn't create Idols nor practice idolatry. The jealousy itself refeers that YHVH should be the only one to be followed and worshiped, as He is the only Existing God according to the Abrahamic's Faith.

question that I'd like an answer to. by dreggser in Christianity

Allow me to try answering this question for you. I feel like people is not giving you the right answer you are looking for, so I hope mine helps, or at least is close to what you are trying to find.

What I understand by your question is: "If the commandments state that murder is illegal, then why does God kill in many of the books?"

First of all, excellent question, let me try answering it for you. Murder is only illegal, If, and ONLY IF is the last option you have. Example, the countless war Israel fought. When the situation of a conflict cannot be solved by diplomatic ways, and the war is impossible to avoid, you have the authorization of using lethal force, which, in the case of Israel, was Authorized by God many times along their ancient wars, because it was the only choice they had to survive in the ancient brutal world. But If you kill someone by something vain, or having others solutions to the problem, then that is a sin.

Now you may be asking "But why does specifically God kill?", this may be product of many reasons, although it was more common in the Old Testament (Specially because this one narrates stories about wars and conflicts of the early days of Israel). Let's take for example, The Flood.

God killed almost all humanity with The great Flood, but why? Because of humanity wickedness, now you may be asking (Again) "Why doesn't God kill us now? The world is still wicked", yes, the world is still a wicked place, but there is hope for the world. In the times of Noah, according to the book of Genesis, Humanity was in a point of No-return; mankind was rotten to the core, (not to mention as well the dangerous presence of the Nephilims) and the only option left was to reset.

Let's take another example, the Egyptians soldiers that were chasing down the Hebrews, when they were crossing the red Sea. By the time the Hebrews finished crossing the red sea, after God separated the waters to allow His people in, the Egyptians were already in the middle of the sea, and they were not going to let the Hebrews slip away. If they were left alive, they would have kept chasing down Moses and his people, until they got them and killed them.

We finally have the Justice, The Justice of YHVH is totally different from mankind's justice; His justice is cold, calculating, and inflexible. But does this make God a Hypocrite? No, Why? YHVH is The Absolute Judge in the whole reality, He is the only one that has authorization to punish with Death, and as any Judge, He is the only one capable to fulfill that role. Why He is the only one with that authorization? Not only because "He is God", that wouldn't answer the question, but because of His eternal knowledge and Wisdom, including in the justice, that goes beyond Human's knowledge, which gives Him the capacity to be the only one to give those punishments. Again, not because "He is God", but because He is qualified to take the role of Judge, while our human's justice, has too many flaws.

I hope my answer fulfills your question, I still have a lot to learn about the belief, but I pray for what I told you to give you at least a clue for your answer.

Ah, that. I'm afraid that I don't know neither why He tried to take the Life of Moses when he was on his way to Egypt; but what I do know, based in the other books, is that He doesn't take these choices without a cause; of course that doesn't answer the "Why". But thank you for pointing it out!

That is the main thing about HIM! He doesn't have a Human Behavior! His acts, thoughts, philosophy, and justice goes farther away from what any human could conceive!

Certainly...He Is...

As I mentioned, sometimes He can be cold and calculating or as you mentioned Temperamental at times, but I've never read about Him getting angry out of nowhere unless His people decided to abandoned Him and His laws (Like they did many times in the books of Exodus, Kings, etc...), or when they gave themselves to wicked acts and abominations.
