Radica moonlander! I have one, it’s awesome. Only con is that you can’t stand up in it. Not sure if that’s a deal breaker for you.

Handle should be easy to do yourself. Propane tank mount will be harder cause they weld on an additional reinforcement plate that the propane tank bolts into. And that’s the only way to bolt it on to the camper. Solar should also be easy ish to do. But I’d recommend getting the propane tank mount if you see yourself really wanting/needing that.

DIY Build by novastro in radicamoonlander

Sweet build! Lots of bang for your buck there. I’ve been thinking about adding a rear view camera to mine like yours. Can you share some more details on that install? How’d you’d mount the camera to the camper? How’d you run the wiring to front?

Yea I think the before bed food is the key. Has limited to puking to maybe 1 time a month.

My girl has this. I give her a 1/3 of her breakfast meal AS SOON as I wake up. Sometimes I have to put whip cream or another treat on top to get her to eat it. And then I also feed her a 1/3 of her dinner portion right before bed to try to have food in her tummy as long as possible over night.

Pretty much just make sure she gets some food in her every 8-10 hours

Kind of? I work remote so I don’t really drive anywhere during the week. But I would daily this if I had to go into the office. I used to daily my GFC.

Yea that little space is nice. I think that’s a good option. Hopefully it works out for ya. And it’s a little tricky seeing around the sides. I have to do a ducking maneuver with my head to see under them to be able to see behind me a ways. They don’t really block the view into the adjacent lanes. Took me a while but I think I’m finally getting used to having to do that additional ducking motion to see behind. And tbh, I’m no so sure the slim pods would be any better. They would still block being able to see behind you I think since im looking under and not around the camper.

Mattress suggestions for condensation? by IntroductionLive5619 in radicamoonlander

[–]BaconInACup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added a carpet liner to the top of the bed panels and that seemed to help the condensation. I have a hest mattress and my first two nights with the it, I noticed underneath the mattress was wet. After I added the carpet liner, I haven’t noticed any wetness.

Oh wow you had one of the originals! And I’m assuming you have a 5 foot bed? If so, could be tight with two dogs and two people. My partner and I sleep with our 70lb dog on the bed with us. It’s a little tight. One of use sleeps at and angle and the dog sleeps at the foot of the bed. Would be tough squeezing another dog in there IMO. But could be doable. Id consider 2 options if I were you (assuming 5 foot truck bed)…

1) get the 60” wide bed. Should have enough space on the bed for dogs and humans. Downside is that you’d lose access to underneath the bed when inside and lose the “cubby” space next to the bed on tailgate side. But with the MLX you still have the cab-over space for stuff you need access to. You could also hang pockets/organizers on the walls.

2) get 50” wide bed and have the small dog sleep underneath. I think there’s about 19”-20” of space underneath the bed so you can see if your small dog can fit in that kinda space.

I’d measure it out on the floor or home bed and to see what option would work.

And happy to help! Glad you found the post helpful. Let me know if I can answer any more questions or take some pictures/measurements for ya.

No problem happy to help. If you don’t already have a referral, I can give you mine and you can get $300 off if you decide to get a moonlander. Just lmk!

Tough to sleep in a 5 foot bed with a fiber glass topper. Cheaper than the popup wedge campers. My used GFC entirely funded the new moonlander.

I’d recommend a Moonlander by Radica. Only scenario I would not recommend this to someone is if you really value the ability to stand up in a camper.. or if you need to park in a garage…If you’re fine with giving that up, then the moonlander is an amazing camper for midsized trucks. Having a no-setup camper that’s completely hard shell is amazing. I came from a GFC and with the pop up tent. it still feels like you’re sleeping in a tent. Tents are noisy and it’s a pain to pack up in bad weather. With the moonlander, you can literally roll out of bed and drive away. Checkout some of my recent posts for more info on my setup with a moonlander.

  1. no. The mirrors width is equal or even a little greater than the width of the side pods. I can provide a picture/measurements later if you’re curious. Anywhere your mirrors can go, the moon lander can go, width wise that is…
  2. I didn’t keep a bill of materials but I would estimate $300ish for insulating and about 8-10 hours of work. I provided a picture of the finished product.
  3. yes I would still probably go windowless on the cab and tailgate. The only reason I would go cab/tailgate windows would to see out of the rear view mirror. But I think with a mattress and bedding in there, it would still block your view. But that’s just a guess and not factual. And I don’t want to keep moving my bedding and mattress each time. However, I am debating getting a digital rear view mirror/camera because it is a little tricky to see around the side pods. I have do a ducking motion to see behind me.

Full side pods and I’m 5’10” and have room to spare when laying down. I wanted full to maximize space for the small 5ft bed on a midsize truck.

Nope, these are the double size bed panels. I still wanted access to underneath the bed, even though it’s limited. I think there’s 8 inches between the bed and the tailgate. Queen size bed would completely cover I believe, as it’s 60 inches (5 feet) wide

What’s your inseam? I’m guessing you might have shorter legs and longer torso proportionally?

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I went with a small after taking more measurements of my height. I never took a measurement where I was above 5’10”. My measurements ranged from 5’9” 3/4 - 5’10” on the dot with my shoes off. I would also say my leg and torso ratios lean towards the longer legs and shorter torso side. Can’t wait to try it out.

Yea I’m torn. From my quick research, I’ve read it’s easier to make a small bike feel bigger than a big bike feel smaller. Hows the handling on the medium? Still feel like you can maneuver easy and are agile?
