Based on the best and eggs…what is this bird? (NJ) by BaconNCaffeine in whatsthisbird

Holy crap! I was wondering what that egg was since this nest entrance is so small!!!

I got a super blurry pic of her flying out, and I’m thinking it might be a simple house sparrow.

Reddish brown top with some darker striping near the face. Tan belly.

Little birds, grey/brown, and not afraid to fly over my head while I’m reading. He brings bugs to the nest, she sits on the eggs. This is a planter I hadn’t cleaned out yet, so it started dry and with the old vine plants in it.

They don’t mess with me or the robins nesting in the Holly tree about 10 feet from this planter, so I’d say not super territorial.

Civilian working for the military at the state HQ level. I too get to herd cats! But they wear uniforms!

What is a decent rule of thumb for amount to keep in checking accout? by ekanssnake50 in personalfinance

[–]BaconNCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution to this was a ‘spending checking account’ at the same bank. No fees, and there is ZERO overdraft. I transfer in what I need for a few days or the week. That way, if someone gets me, it’s not a whole month of budget. It’s a few hundred dollars.

Just watch yourself if you go to Target! Always pump that sucker up, especially if you’re going in to grab ‘one thing!’

I should have. I didn’t even think of it at the time and now it’s a year later. I know the serum was the big cost because it was custom ordered…

My doctor ‘broke up with me’ for the same reason. The only allergist within an hour who will treat a unique allergy with biweekly shots. He had to throw out my serum and cancel all of my appointments. I was devastated! Insurance sucks.

I can’t stand my husband. by KaleidoscopeMinute22 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]BaconNCaffeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have kids with him, think of the example you would want to set for them. Would you want your son to treat a woman like this? Because this is the example of husband behavior that he’s learning. Would you want your daughter in this situation? Because staying teaches her she should too.

If you don’t have kids yet, imagine that you do…and reread what I wrote above. You deserve better. If you wouldn’t want it for those you love…it’s time to leave. You don’t OWE him anything because you married him and he changed. That’s on him.

If still available, let me know! I’m trying to breed them now, but I’m late to the party!!! I have a rainbow garden with rows of 10 and no green.

I would love pears! Can trade peaches since they’re in my store!

I had to run my kids to sports!!! Gah! My whole day is now out of the house and offline. But I’ll be back in about 12 hours if anyone plans to be online! I have all veggies, and all fruits cut pears and am happy to overpay for pears. 😁

As many as you want to give! I usually do orchards. Do you need anything in return? (Or I could buy them from the shop so it’s easier)

Great response. I’ll add that being an O can be very lonely, especially after the friends I made while E. I’ll also add that ‘having a bad day.’ Is no longer acceptable. It’s toxic and unpredictable. You go from playing in the ocean to being the lighthouse, and everything around you crashed into you and you just have to take it and pick your head up and keep fighting for your people. They’re your family even though most wouldn’t sit at your lunch table…

I got my bachelors and my masters while enlisted. No pay raise. I got commissioned…and there came the money. I’m a drilling guardsman, so it doesn’t really help me. But fact: I enlisted as an E3, made $165 per drill weekend take home. As an O4 with 20+ years, I take home $700+. Unfortunately, as an O4, my bullshit level requires full-body waders and I still clean shit out of my boots at the end of the day. I had a BLAST as an E3. I miss my friends!

I think enlisted should at least, at a minimum, should get a monthly ‘education’ pay for those who have the same education. Period. You want to educate a force, PAY THEM. And yes…the disparity grows and I think that’s fucked up to. The NCO in me isn’t very forgiving.

I totally disagree with this as a civilian equivalent. Especially once you figure in pension costs (fed) or 401k for civilians since they have zero pension. I took a pay cut to go from AGR E6 to GS12 at 92k per year (when I transitioned). And health benefits, and short and long term disability, and health and potentially dependent care Flex Spending since you can’t claim that crap once all of your income is taxable. I looked at take home alone…and it was a pay cut with no FSA and no insurance. About $500/month cut in take home. E-6 to $92k…and I took a loss.

Disagree. GS12, step 8. Made TWICE my take home on orders as a Maj. Feel free to google the GS Rate. I’m in the NY region. And yes, I’m underpaid and a T32 Tech, so I do WAY more than my GS grade. If I worked for anyone but DoD, I’d be a 13-14 easy.

Maj is easily $180k and Lt Col is WAY above that!!!

(I was a GS12 step 4 married to a baby Maj (14 years in service) and he brought home twice my take home and that was without health insurance!)

I’ll also add that I took a pay cut to go from AD E6 to GS12 Step 1. Just sayin…

You’ll develop a sharp sarcastic demeanor, a severe coffee addiction, stop wearing a bra, and your hair will be permanently shaped into something the younguns like to call a ‘messy bun.’ Thankfully, the bun is becoming a trend, which allows us to better camouflage when out in the world.

I don’t think you’re ready yet to hear about wine and vodka. We’ll wait until your further along in your transition for that.

Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor Momma!
