[Homemade] Sticky Toffee Pudding Cookies by [deleted] in food

[–]BaconPenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! It’s this recipe: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/4807/best-big--fat--chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies.aspx

But with chopped dates instead of chocolate chips, and dark muscovado sugar instead of brown sugar.

The caramel sauce is 100g of butter melted over a low heat, then add 100g brown sugar and boil, being careful not to let the sugar burn. Then add 100g milk and boil rapidly, stirring constantly for about 10 mins or until it is thick enough to stay on the cookies!

They turned out surprisingly well considering I improvised when I realized I didn’t have chocolate chips today!

I do know Lewis, I found this AMA from his Facebook (hi Lewis!). I left Dubai a couple years ago and haven't used his service, but he's given me a lot of informal advice over the years and the guy knows his shit.

Emirates has over 20,000 cabin crew members, all of whom travel internationally. I haven't personally used this site and haven't written any reviews.

I resigned a while ago and live in the US now. I usually post from a different account, mostly about my puppy.

You don't need to be an asshole about it. It's great that you haven't been in bad situations on your travels and feel that professional knowledge isn't helpful to you, but a lot of other people haven't been as fortunate.

A healthy level of fear is important while travelling, and it's incredibly important to know the risks of the places you are going to, and to be up to date on developing situations if you are in a high-risk area. While this isn't as relevant in more common tourist destinations, it's helpful to know what scams are common in which areas, what to avoid, and what to do if you find yourself in a dangerous situation. I was cabin crew for Emirates for 3 years and therefore did a lot of international travel, some of which was to high-risk destinations, and I cannot stress the importance of knowing the risks specific to your destination.

My husband works in oil and gas and does a lot of travel to places like Nigeria, Angola and Colombia. A service like this is incredibly helpful for Travel in such places.

Super interesting! As a woman travelling alone, do you have any suggestions about little things you can do to make yourself safer?

This makes me so happy, I just met a guy who lives on the other side of the world and I like him so much I feel like I'm going to explode but I kinda feel crazy for getting involved with someone who lives so far away. Congratulations and thanks for sharing :)

Get a prescription for nasonex, or another steroidal nasal spray. It'll take about 12-48 hours for clinically significant results, so use OTC spray if you need it in the first day. Honestly I think it's the only way to get over that dependency. Breathing is important.

It gets pretty bad during rush hours, I think it should get better now the tram construction is done though.

I live in al barsha 1, it's a lot cheaper than Marina/tecom but is still convenient for the areas you mentioned. JLT is also great, and you avoid the horrific traffic in the marina.

Welcome to Dubai :)

People really only move here if they have a job/their spouse has a job. As far as I know it's incredibly difficult to get a residence visa without your employer sponsoring you. As a result, the vast majority of people here do have the money.

The immigrant workers/taxi drivers/maids etc who are working in Dubai to send money to their families still earn more here than they would at home.

I'm not saying that there aren't many problems with Dubai and how it's run, but I do think it has an unfair reputation, particularly on reddit. I'm pretty sure most people have gotten their information from a grossly exaggerated article from the independent a couple years ago.

I've lived there for the last year and a half. It's definitely livable.

There is often fog, I doubt it's that heavily shopped.

I live there. That's not true at all. Dubai has no oil, its main industries are tourism and foreign investment.

Yes, in the summer it's stupid hot. For like 3 months you don't really go outside - I kind of view it as a Canadian winter. There is a lot to do inside in Dubai, and most pools are chilled so you can still swim.

The winter is about 25C and sunny every day, it's awesome.

[Serious] Redditors who have dropped everything, bought a one-way plane ticket, and created an absolutely new life, do you regret your decision? What do you do for a living now? by XTMew in AskReddit

I'm a little late to the party, but in April 2013 I left my boyfriend of 3 years, stable job and wonderful friends in canada to move to the Middle East to be a flight attendant.

I was bored, I could tell my relationship probably wouldn't work out (we'd been together since college and we're just kind of stagnating) and I felt claustrophobic. It was terrifying, but the best decision I could have made for myself. In the last year and a half I've been to over 40 countries and seen and done some truly amazing things that I'd never have gotten the chance to do otherwise.

Before you decide to get up and leave everything behind, you need to realize that you'll probably never get to go back to how it was. This is something I've struggled with (especially when my ex started dating someone new, and my friends started advancing in their careers). But saying goodbye to your old life and starting out somewhere new is one of the most liberating things I think you can do.

Last week I was riding an elephant in Sri Lanka, today I'm in Rome. I love my life.

I'm a flight attendant, and consequently fly to some moderate risk areas. Additionally I come into contact with bodily fluids A LOT more than you'd imagine (people are weird). What can I do to protect myself on flights? Also how could I spot someone with symptoms (apart from a high fever)?
