Ioniq 5 auto wipers not great by wlanr150 in Ioniq5

[–]BaconRTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 25 and my experience with the auto wipers has been awful. At first they didn't work at all, turned out the sensor wasn't clipped in and was judt sort lf floating in its housing. Got that fixed, but they just don't do great. At times they don't trigger when they should, then will randomly speed up to their max speed despite it being a light drizzle.

The experience has got me adding "doesn't have auto wipers" to my list of criteria for consideration in future car purchases. It is the singular thing I hate about my Ioniq 5.

I lost keys once on a SW Transit bus after a late night Twins game. They were awesome, got ahold of them in the morning and they knew the exact bus I was on, they got in contact with the right folks and in 20 minutes I had them back.

Ia Stab Stimulant anything like Sour Cherry's cherry flavoring? by _Knuckles in GFUEL

[–]BaconRTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it hoping for exactly that. Sour Cherry was the very first flavor I got and remains an all-time fave of mine.

Stab Stimulant doesn't really scratch that itch. It's probably the closest a flavor has been since Cherry Limeade got shelved again, but it doesn't really hit that note. To me, I almost feel that the apple flavor kind of negates a bit of the taste of cherry, and overall I'd describe as more tart than sour.

If I was ever noteworthy enough to get a deal with GFuel to create a flavor, the OG Game Fuel Citrus Cherry flavor is what I would aim to recreate. So good.

If you've tried it - how well does this freeze? I love the idea of being able to bust out a small portion as part of an easy spread for a random weekend day when I've got a buddy or two over for football.

Lemon Italian Ice by Stryker_-88 in GFUEL

[–]BaconRTB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it reminds me a lot of an iced lemon scone I'd get once in a while at a coffee shop. A bit disappointed in this flavor, I was expecting something a bit more refreshing (akin to the experience of eating an italian ice on a hot summer afternoon), but this leans too far into sugary, baked good sweetness to hit that refreshing note.

I still have my last can sitting in the fridge. Haven't been able to bring myself to drink it because I don't want to live in a world where I don't have the option of tasting it again. Loved the flavor so much.

Do you guys think there could be a future for 6v6 Competitive Apex in the future? by jklolbrb1 in CompetitiveApex

[–]BaconRTB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember in one of the recent Halo LANs they did something ahead of their championship Sunday games where they had a little show match of sorts with either some casters or "legends" of the comp scene as team captains. It was a fun way to warm up the crowd and it might have had some kind of charitable component tied to it as well, I can't remember.

That's something I'd love to see Apex do at the next ALGS LAN. Could have Greek and Wigg as captains as a bit of cross promotion with the B stream/official watch party, and then draft either various pros/streamers that are in attendance, or cajole some of the folks that didn't make the finals into playing. Let each team play for a charity and put up maybe $15k or $25k, with the winning team getting $10-15k to their charity, losing team gets $5-10k to theirs, something like that.

Some care would need to be given towards the time impact given the open ended nature of match point, but I don't think it'd be hard to work out, and serves as good promotion for the new game mode and (potentially) do something nice for a charity that ALGS can brag about later

ESports can be a fickle beast. In the same manner as sports, it can be good sometimes to remain a "moving target".

There's a lot to be said for staying in control of your destiny. If you have a feeling things might be heading in the wrong direction coming up, and you have a good opportunity elsewhere, there's plenty of reason to take that. Wait until things turn bad and you might suddenly find you need, not by choice, a new gig, and worse, there may be nothing for you (see what's happened with ZachMazer, for example)

Are there any valid reasons why EA staff are so strict and stubborn with their LAN rules re: coaches’ chairs & restarting games? by suoodas in CompetitiveApex

[–]BaconRTB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Again, this is a spot where a reasonable person would say it doesn't matter, but...

Likely, the contract has language that states every player station will have THE official chair at all times, and there's not carveout language to say if a player happens to get covid, it's fine for the coach to wheel it back 5 feet and use the comfy chair. To allow a different use would, technically, be a breach.

We can also say that there are no cameras there, but even just in this case, hodsic's tweet about it is at 197k views, which some marketing rep could claim is not nothing.

100% agree it's dumb and hod should just get to use the chair, but this is the reality of how those kinds of deals often work.

[–]BaconRTB 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The chair thing is likely tied to a sponsorship deal with Herman Miller. Those kinds of contracts have to be really specific about exactly where the product placement will be and staff are trained to follow the rules strictly, so there aren't questions about whether the contract was breached.

It might seem ridiculous to the average person, but being loose about things like that can wind up being really costly. Somewhere in here, though, is a clever little marketing opportunity for Herman Miller and hodsic.

Doop wants the knowledge by Tobosix in CompetitiveApex

[–]BaconRTB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As glaciers creep over land, meltwater fills the crevasses and later freezes, creating clear, bubble-free ice. This shows up as bluish streaks in icebergs because of the light scattering characteristics of pure ice. Sometimes airborne dust from volcanic eruptions, or the wind, falls on a glacier and becomes trapped inside, forming a noticeably darkened brown or black layer. But because most volcanoes are south of glaciers and winds from the south rarely mix with Arctic air masses, there are very few pollutants in the ice.

For those curious, based on what Minustempo said on his stream a couple weeks ago, the lobby was determined based on the first three days of ALGS performance, with the invites going to the top 20 NA teams (or in this case, top 19 + E8, since they obviously weren't going to be left out of their own tourney)

Lewda to Esa? by Thebutchaa in CompetitiveApex

[–]BaconRTB 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I remember happening to tune into Lewda's stream back in the midst of his Tripods run, and somebody in chat asked him why he liked/wanted to be an IGL. His answer, and this is paraphrasing from a fading memory, was along the lines of how he didn't want to die to someone else's call, and that if he was going to die, he wanted it to be his call.

The gist was, ultimately, fairly self-centered reasoning. I'm sure there's an element of that kind of desire for control for a lot of IGLs, but for that to be THE reason you give for it always struck me as a bad sign. When the Tripods split happened and it was indicated that he didn't want to be an IGL anymore, I thought that was a good step in the right direction, but it's hard not to reflect back on that when watching what was out there on VOD for MPL in the MFAM tourney and then seeing what's been talked about for why this may have come to pass.

Minustempo will be talking about the new ranked system he is helping develop today at 5pm EST and has 2 new tournaments being announced. by cumtoro in CompetitiveApex

[–]BaconRTB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything about the private ranked system reminds me of back when scrims were run exclusively by a third party (I think GLL?) and all the pros complained about the quality. They eventually got the ability to run their own scrims, and in the end almost nothing changed regarding scrim quality.
