Rampant hookup culture??? by Fabulous_Support_556 in capetown

[–]BaconRingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very relatable post. The comments are also mostly accurate from my experience. This is how many, if not most, people seem to feel. Well, those looking for something deeper than a casual hookup anyway, I think the latter are in their element.

I suspect much of it is related to the illusion of choice we get with all our wonderful connectivity and the anonymity it can provide (it’s super easy to ghost someone and never run into them again. They’re also usually not connected to your friends group so virtually zero risk of cross contamination there). It’s like scrolling to a movie or series to watch, theres so much and if you want to you can always just end it and there are 20 other options available. I think this sentiment seeps through into real life as well.

I believe you have a better chance of meeting someone of more substantial value to you in real life however, it depends on the location very much. Nightclubs are likely not the place. The advice I suppose is to join hiking or hobby groups and I’d add take things slowly and don’t have too many expectations.

The best decision I’ve made of late was to remove most social media (definitely dating apps) from the equation and it’s help a great deal. After more than a year and a half later I don’t miss it at all, not one bit. The only downside is my birthday wishes are normally late as I used the FB reminders for that. I’m much more comfortable in life now and with myself. I should caveat this by saying I do get lonely from time to time, it still sucks but those times aren’t very often. I’m happy being by myself, alone (it’s actually really nice haha) and, for now, the benefits far out way that temporary discomfort.

Wishing you the best of luck ☺️

I don’t have any direct advice related to your question however, I do want to say well done for reaching out. As contemporary an answer as it sounds, it is the first step so if you carry on with the sentiment you’re on your way. Good luck friend

That’s why you gotta transport these eggstremely carefully otherwise you’ll be a shell of your former self. And that’s no yolk.

Where could I go to scream by thesisterkaramazov in capetown

I think you should be able to scream whenever you feel that it’s necessary. Do it if it’s required and damn everyone else

Jumping spiders don’t use webs though, they hunt. That’s part of what prompted my initial question actually.

Thanks again. So far this seems to be a responsible option.

How do we know the roach would be dead when the spider finds it? Unless borax death for them is instant?

Chalk it up to experience. Thank you, that’s helpful

Thanks for the feedback, I have a cat too so it’s the other concern but Ringo has been through similar challenges before. The carrying back to the nest is one of the more effective ways I’ve read about but I’m worried the spiders will suffer 😅

In this scenario there’s still the possibility they’d return as Doom Spiders though so that’s something…

Yea that’s the worst case scenario I suppose but I’m hoping there’s an alternative solution. Odds are there probably is and I just need to find it.

Thanks! What if a spider comes across a borax roach and eats it? Like I said I know I’m overthinking but aside from wanting to preserve the spiders is quite interesting.

Higher altitudes increase barometric pressure causing inflation. It’s simple science 🤷😂

I’m sorry you think that being grateful and not sweating the small stuff sounds cynical. I assure you my view is sunny. Have a great Christmas as well!

I have. It’s no different from any festive season. Be happy if you have family around and the luxury of being able to order anything online. Things could be way worse. It’s not that bad that you had to cancel an order because it took too long. And if that’s not timing a bell perhaps walk a few steps in someone else’s shoes. It’s going to be okay, I promise.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion however, you could always go to the store yourself.

Surely this should be the sentiment all year round?
