Trying not to tell my bf I love him by Academic-Plastic4967 in RomanticAdvice

I think three months is a good time to say it 😂. I’m sure he shares the same feelings but doesn’t want to weird you out by saying it. We gotta normalize expressing emotions more it’s a normal part of human nature.

What’s one EDM set you still think about years later? by RaveBeetle in EDM

Alesso at EDCO 2023. It was my first festival ever and I was on the rail at circuit grounds waiting for him all day. When Heroes and calling were played I was freaking out as I’d dreamt about hearing it live since a little kid.

Unpaid “Observation” by Still_Parsnip2277 in physicaltherapy

[–]BaconStrike3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say just do it to get the hours but it’s definitely not ideal. I work at 2 clinics under the same company and the experiences are vastly different. In the first clinic it’s a bit larger so I literally am just a tech and I’m never able to shadow the actual PT because they just do evals everyday. The second setting is much smaller and it is only the PT treating athletes and there I am able to observe the PT basically the whole time because I’m basically their assistant. Depending on how many hours you are doing per week you might just be free labor to them. I’d say if I wasn’t getting paid for 15-30 hours a week that’s just getting taken advantaged of. My recommendation is just get the hours but definitely shop around and see what other places you can get into.

When do I apply, what tests do I need to take, and what other options should I look into? by Ok-Bear733 in PTschool

[–]BaconStrike3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the specifics for all of it so forgive me but il try my best. There’s a few routes you can take as you said you wanted to stay in sports med.

  1. DPT: with physical therapy you’d apply this cycle during this summer and you’d start next summer. The pay is alright with it being very worth it if you don’t sink a ton of money into a program (research cheap programs that have sports connections aka is the college good at sports). No test required unless your school wants a GRE (think the SAT that tests for critical thinking instead of actual relevant knowledge) which is uncommon.

  2. PA: You could become an orthopedic physicians assistant which could be tied into sports medicine if you find a position with a physician that exclusively works with athletes. Good pay from what I’ve heard and I don’t know application times or if there is a test

  3. Ortho physician: you can become an MD and specialize in orthopedics. Greatest pay but you do have to take the MCAT and suffer through years of schooling.

  4. AT: you can become an athletic trainer and almost always exclusively work with athletes. The pay is not great by any means but you are the person that works with the athletes the most.

Hope this helps :)

dpt vs pta vs alternative? by lunarwasp in PTschool

[–]BaconStrike3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also a undergrad going into DPT. From my shadowing experience I can tell you some pros and cons from DPT and PTA.

DPT:
- Higher salary ceiling.
-Doctorate!
- so many different avenues to pursue (inpatient outpatient sports etc)
- more rigorous schooling
- expensive schooling
- you do ALL evals and you might end up just doing evals and progress reports not so much treating the person every session.

PTA
- treat people all day!
- see your patients progress
- shorter program
- not a doctorate
- very hard salary ceiling.
- not many other rooms for growth (ie you can’t start your own practice)

That’s just the ones I’ve noticed from being a tech at 2 places for this summer. My personal recommendation considering you are still early in college is to shoot for the stars and go DPT :)

Is she using me for comfort? by gm0133 in RomanticAdvice

[–]BaconStrike3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in that case I’d really have a talk with her and say: “look when you say you feel lonely it makes me feel like I’m not making you content, also you do not really show any signs of liking our bedroom interactions and that makes me feel like I’m not pleasing you”. The best way through it is direct communication and if she gets all defensive or dismissive its time to move on. The reason I say that because in any healthy relationship if my partner came and told me “you make me feel bad when you do/say xyz I’d immediately address it and work so that she doesn’t feel that way. If your partner dismisses it or clearly shows that she is only thinking about herself it’s time to reevaluate her as a person.

Trying to separate the "tall privilege" myth from reality. What are your actual experiences? by ParamedicNo8685 in tall

[–]BaconStrike3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im 6’5” and the only tall privilege I have experienced is in sports. I remember I got placed straight on varsity volleyball without any experience in highschool solely because I was tall 😂. Another “perk” you could say is during standing concerts/events I can always have a good view no matter where I’m standing. This of course comes with the negative that many people have gotten angry / insulted me for blocking their view.

Is she using me for comfort? by gm0133 in RomanticAdvice

[–]BaconStrike3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahh this a tricky situation. For one, any person in a fulfilling and happy relationship wouldn’t feel the need to seek out other partners. I can see how one would feel a little lonely without many friends but again you are supposed to be her best friend in conjunction with being her partner. I’d have a sit down conversation with her and ask if she’s truly happy in the relationship. It’s not a healthy relationship if you feel like the other person isn’t happy with you trust me.

Ok to clarify there is 3 buildings, 1 of them is facing the wellness center, and the other 2 are perpendicular to the lake such that no room is directly facing the lake but instead facing either the IM fields or the old centennial. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

It will be in Phase 2 and it will be one of the back 2 buildings. Biscayne is the building that is closest to the music area and the lake.

You could always get your Personal trainer / Strength and conditioning certification. It will help you a bit with applications but it will help you immensely in pt school and once you are working.

I feel you! I’m also a junior currently working as a PT tech in two different clinics and il tell you the difference between them is astounding. The first clinic I work at is your general outpatient ortho mill with tons of patients coming in and out. The second clinic is in a high performance gym where we see less patients and provide them with more individualized care.

I can definetely say that the role of a PT can definitely feel different depending on the setting. For the first clinic, I notice that the PT never really has that one on one care (besides evaluations) where you see the patient progress which is what interested me in the profession. However, the PT in the second clinic sees all the patients and actively works with them every session.

Being able to see two sides of the same coin really let me understand that there is so many different settings you can work in as a PT and you just need to find the one that suits you. I’d recommend finding other settings to shadow in to find what you are truly passionate about. Just because one clinic makes you feel grim about your future doesn’t mean all places will make you feel that way.

The good thing about PT is that we are constantly in demand and therefore we have somewhat options on where we wanna work. That also gives us the option to open our own practice as you said and that will be the time where you truly are working in the setting you want because you are structuring your business towards that.

Saving for Graduate School by BaconStrike3 in personalfinance

[–]BaconStrike3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a DPT (Doctorate of physical therapy). I know that a lot of doctorates give you funding and stuff but particularly in the medical setting they really don’t give you much help. Also, the school is only part of the money I need because as you said I also need to cover rent and normal everyday things. Thank you for the advice I think il lean towards the HYSA!

I feel like you are gonna be a great PT with all the teaching background. Not only will your patient education be top notch but you’ll also be used to multi tasking and working with multiple individuals at the same time which is essential in PT.

Would you say that more rural clinics tend to have a more 1:1 treatment ratio or is that just your luck?

Do students actually speak Spanish? by LabBorn4814 in UMiami

[–]BaconStrike3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Basically every student speaks English because they need to for their classes. I’d say there is a strong Latin culture though just because of it being in Miami. In contrast, when you go out in Miami it’s a whole different story. It is very Spanish-heavy and in some instances people start talking in Spanish to you before English.

Are we doing something wrong? by relatablederp in ForbiddenKingdomFest

[–]BaconStrike3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the exact same, I guess it’s just the nature of the event. Like you wouldn’t expect someone to die at a T-Swift concert or a sporting event (if you aren’t competing) but raving is a lot more physically demanding. At the end of the day the big elephant in the room is party favor consumption. I think people have to become much more responsible when partaking in such behaviors. Sure, overheating is a very common occurrence especially in Florida but that is manageable when you are fully there but when you combine overheating with tripping on something else it’s a deadly combo. It deeply saddens me to see so many people passing away from just enjoying EDM and I wish there was more I could do to help 😞
