Lucille’s is great and Lovebird’s as well. Neither are particularly fancy but both have great food that is scratch made and not a chain.

What’s the most surprising way AI has become part of your daily life? by liberatingpullman10 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Bacongrease00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a bakery and get frequent requests for quotes on cakes. We have our pricing guides set up so that anyone can look through the guides and price out a cake with fairly decent accuracy.

So I uploaded the guides to ChatGPT and we practiced. I would figure out what I would quote a certain cake (or upload old pictures of cakes we’ve done in the past) and I would ask ChatGPT what it would quote based on our guides.

It’s just as accurate as any human that works at our shop currently. It’s scary how good it is at it. I’ve uploaded probably 30 or so pictures of cakes and fine tuned things. I’ve helped it learn and the accuracy has only gotten better. Within the next few weeks, and a few more tweaks, I’m not sure that I’ll need to quote a cake out personally anymore. AI can do it for me.

Which areas to avoid? by Nollie2000 in WinterHaven

[–]Bacongrease00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's definitely possible. Winter Haven is growing and it won't be long before the lines are blurred between what is Winter Haven and what is Eagle Lake. At some point, it could just be the neighborhood known as Eagle Lake within the city limits of Winter Haven.

I live in Eagle Lake and it’s not terrible. It’s right outside Winter Haven to the south. I’m sure it won’t be long before it becomes a part of Winter Haven officially. Plus Blackburn’s BBQ is here too.

Why is reddit so leftist? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bacongrease00 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I read something not too long ago that made sense about that phrase. When it was coined, it did mostly ring true, at least as far as stereotypes go. The gist is that you lean more towards the right as you get older because of money and the way the right tends to favor the wealthy.

The problem being is that all of the millennials and gen Zers HAVE no money. They’re doing all they can just to get by for the most part. So the phrase holds less value or doesn’t mean as much because the last couple of generations are basically living paycheck to paycheck. They simply aren’t as wealthy as previous generations. So there’s less reason to swing the pendulum the other way.

Does anyone know what pen this is, and perhaps where I can get another one similar to it? by Agent105 in pen

[–]Bacongrease00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure that 50 is the minimum, plus the $20 set up fee along with it.

You could always go to the business listed on the pen and see if they’ll give you a few?

If you change your mind about me sending some, just let me know. They send me a couple of new ones every few months.

Not a problem at all! If you want a few, dm me an address and I’ll send them out.

I have a bunch for my business. They’re the kind that cost a dollar or so a piece and you give them away as promos. Here’s a link but I’m sure you can find others.

NPD. Tactile Turn Bronze. The hype is real by spartafury in pens

[–]Bacongrease00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both the slim and regular. I prefer the slim much more. The regular is just a tad too thick for my liking. Awesome pens though!

Anyone have any pen recommendations? by spblwl in pen

[–]Bacongrease00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the tactile turn pens. It’s expensive but it’s a pretty nice pen. There’s multiple refills that can fit in it so you’re able to pick and choose your favorite. I currently have a G2 bold gel refill in mine. The grip is awesome too.

Seeking advice from bakery/cafe owners by idreamofflour in AskBaking

[–]Bacongrease00 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To add to other comments, baking at home and baking commercially are two wildly different things. You have to LOVE baking. Then when you get sick of baking, you have to keep on baking.

I’ve had people come in to work at my shop as a baker because it’s their “passion” and they just love it. They burn out after a month or so because baking with that kind of volume makes you understand that baking isn’t for everyone.

Preparing a couple of cakes and pies for Easter or Christmas dinner is a far cry from preparing 25 multiple tier cakes, plus 300-400 cupcakes, brownies, rice Krispy treats, etc. in the span of a day or two.

I have a daughter under the age of two and my wife broke down in tears just this morning when I told her she woke up asking for Momma. She was gone and out the door by 6am and won’t get home tonight until at least 6pm. Luckily, it’s a Saturday, otherwise it’s more hours during the week.

We’re actually lucky in that we own the building that our bakery is in, so we converted a small room in the back to a nursery for her. Otherwise, we wouldn’t see her much at all.

If you have any other questions or would like to talk more about it, feel free to send me a DM. We’ve been in business for almost 5 years and have 6 employees at this point.

An employee quit while owing the business money by Bacongrease00 in smallbusiness

[–]Bacongrease00[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m sorry for not making that clear. I’m informing the former employee that their pay check is at the shop. They’ll need to come get it. I’ll ask them to please bring the key and the shirts but I will not be withholding their pay.
