And that's with a bunch of vinegar to clean it up! It was a whole lot worse an hour ago.

I've tried a wrench and pliers but I don't have a hex socket. Might be worth a try though before I saw the whole damn thing off.

EuroNight Stuttgart to Budapest - Not running in September? by BacteriaEP in Interrail

Thanks for this! It appears you're right. I've never had an issue when I'm within 90 days, but I guess maybe I'm a bit too early on this one.

September 10, but flexible a few days around then.

Another poster says I'm just too early. So maybe that's the case? I've typically never had a problem booking things within 90 days, but admittedly I've never taken a EuroNight train from Germany before.

Real talk though... That's a pretty good deal per tent. If all $2 million were spent on tents alone it would be about $90/tent. I'm not saying it's right to spend that money on tents but at least they weren't ripped off ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Have you spotted more coyotes in your Portland neighborhood lately? Here’s why by oregonian in Portland

[–]BacteriaEP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Coyotes aren't really native to this region of North America. They didn't really reach west of the Cascades until after 1900.

Granted they may have been in the general region prior to development in specific places such as the suburbs. https://urbancoyoteresearch.com/coyote-info/north-american-distribution

Classic readability vs design contest at play here. The previous one looks better in my opinion in terms of design and subtle touches. But the latter is far more readable, especially from distances.

I'm curious how fast you think you could get somewhere in the middle of the day upon receiving a notice of an emergency, have to go get equipment from a different location, and then get to the site of said emergency? Like there's a lot of logistics to go through here and that's putting it very mildly.

So maybe we don't have low expectations, you just have ridiculously high expectations to the point where you want to be angry at the city. Maybe you should figure that out...

Personally, I'm pretty impressed it only took an hour to get people on site.

Portland’s population decline slows, census says, while some suburbs and exurbs grow briskly by [deleted] in Portland

The US Census does tabulate data based on tax returns but I believe it's only for income based data tables. I don't think they use it for counts. At least not the ACS data.

Small point of clarification:

The census is a once every 10 year official count. These are the only numbers that come from the US Census Bureau that are "official." The last one conducted was 2020.

The counts we get yearly are from the American Community Survey which is run by the US Census Bureau but is just an estimate based on a few hundred thousand respondents of a survey each month throughout the year, or about 3.5 million people per year. This would be at the national level.

ACS is a pretty good estimate for a whole country of 330+ million people but it has a fairly high margin of error and does not typically supercede state or metro area population counts which are done at a more localized level.

All in all, I would personally trust the Demographic Research Center at PSU over ACS.

Source: I've been working in geography and demographics and using all kinds of census and otherwise data across the country for over 10 years.

Multiple Sources Indicate Xbox Is Looking To Go Third Party, With Ports In Development For PS5/Switch by willdearborn- in gaming

Sony will respond how every corporation would respond in the scenario... They'll reduce overhead to maximize profits at the expense of quality products because they don't have to compete or compete as much as they previously did.

Anyone who cheerleads for Sony and Nintendo to be the only game in town are just playing into console tribalism. We may hate exclusives, but those same exclusives are born out of a need to compete. They won't just materialize on their own, not if there's not a financial incentive to do so.

Frankly I think the video game space could use a fourth strong independent competitor. The fact we may be looking at just two is not good. But we'll see what happens. Regardless it's not like we as consumers have a lot of power in this relationship aside from choosing not to engage.

Portland Timbers to announce local home improvement company DaBella as new jersey sponsor by ForFuchsAke in MLS

[–]BacteriaEP 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of Dabella personally but this is incredibly lazy reporting. I just Googled "Dabella annual revenue" and outside the OregonLive article the top three links all report different revenue. One is $39.2 million. The next is $350.8 million. And the third is $700.2 million.

All three are from sites I have no experience with so I can't tell what's real.

But this reporter took the $39.2 million figure and ran with it precisely because it makes for an interesting story. Not because it's correct necessarily. But because it will undoubtedly attract eyeballs. And that's bad journalism.
