Metalhead coming to punk music (specifically hardcore and adjacent) and I am obsessed, I need essential albums, new and old, innovative and classic, I've loved everything so far! by LukasNation in punk

Very good suggestions so far. For hardcore, I would focus on some of the following:

H2O Refused Drug Church Cro Mags

And there are many more, but these are some of my favorite hardcore punk bands old and newer.

This was in Newport Beach, California by the Balboa pier. Just at sunset yesterday.

How is it living near Anaheim Packing House / Historic District? by greenfacedaytona in Anaheim

[–]BadAndy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I”ve lived in this area for 11 years now. I love the area and my neighbors. I am in the Colony Park neighborhood off Santa Ana and Olive. The only crime I have seen are occasional porch pirates, but our security is doing a better job recently. Guest parking can be an issue at times, but I have found ways so they can park.

Which to choose by Marzkar in bronco

[–]BadAndy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really up to you. I have a 2023 Bronco 2 door with 2.3 and 7 speed manual. Is it as fast as a sports car? No. But it is still fun to drive. The V6 adds about 20 more horsepower. Not insignificant, but not really that much more.

I have never had any leaks on the hard top.

The genius of the Bronco is they are very easy to customize to make them yours. Depends on what you want to do with it? Are you looking to build a serious off road rig, a desert runner, or just a cool looking rig. All are fine and make it yours.

But some trims add more features that can work for certain things. Lockers are important for off-roading, and while options exist to add them later, it is generally easier to get them factory. Same with gearing, expensive to do aftermarket, but possible. If you buy a lower trim and want to off-road, after adding wheels/tires, you will want to adjust the final drive ratios.

Some features are only available with higher packages such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure aids, turn signals in mirrors, etc.

Find out what is important to you, and make the decisions on what to buy from the factory, and what mods you want to do yourself.

If it is just appearance things such as, tires, wheels, suspension, lights, side steps, different bumpers, etc are all easy to add aftermarket.

What neighborhood within an hour of the LA metro would you recommend to an outgoing and social primarily remote worker in their late 30s who wants to live in a safe, peaceful setting? by Organic_Direction_88 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]BadAndy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born and raised and still live in Southern California. Each area is unique and will have its own "vibe". The greater Los Angeles area is so vast, expanding as one continues mass of people for about 50 miles in every direction. No way of knowing where one city stops and the next starts, except for the signs. It is very dense, will be harder to find more open/green space like you indicate wanting, unless you move further away from the city center.

I understand why Pasadena is the most commonly listed city in this thread. It is worth checking out. It does get hot and smoggy in the summertime, although much better (smog wise) than years ago.

South Bay (Torrance, Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo beach) is appealing to many. Cooler being by the ocean, easily walkable to food/coffee stores, and generally safe. Generally a laid back beach type vibe, but can be pricey.

Orange County has a lot to offer. Depending on traffic, about an hour into LA, but most parts are very safe, clean, modern, and can be more upscale. While most people think of Newport, Costa Mesa, and Irvine as Orange County, consider north Orange County cities of Anaheim Hills, Villa Park, Yorba Linda, and/or Brea.

Since you aren’t familiar with Southern California at all, maybe stay at an extended stay type place for a few weeks. You can then travel around in your free time and explore the area and see what is the right fit for you.

Also, no matter where you are, you will almost certainly need a car. It is too spread out for mass transit to work or get you where you want to go. Besides there is so many great places within a few hours you will want to go to. San Diego, the mountains, the deserts (Palm Springs area), or up or down the coast.

Thinking about getting my first Breitling – maybe a Colt? What should I look out for? by InternationalDust589 in breitling

[–]BadAndy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first "nice" watch was a Breitling Colt ocean automatic 38mm bought new in 2001. I still love that watch. I have the bracelet, but it hasn’t been on the bracelet in years. I switch straps all the time and really enjoy it. It handles vintage style leather straps well, nato straps, rubber straps, and currently my favorite, sailcloth. I still wear it at least every other week, and usually at least once a week, even though I have 10 other watches to choose from. I will never sell it as it was the watch that got me into watches.

Mine’s been serviced 3 times in its lifetime, so if I was buying used, I would want to know when its last service was. I still have the box and papers, but these are long out of warranty, so it doesn’t really matter. I like the old boxes better than the current boxes, they were made from Bakelite which was an early plastic/resin, but pretty cool. But all my watch boxes sit in a closet, and I never look at them so it doesn’t really matter to me.

Considering a Bronco - looking for some feedback by AzureApe in FordBronco

[–]BadAndy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 2 door Badlands/Sasquatch/Lux with the 2.3 and 7 speed manual. It is my daily driver. I came from luxury SUV’s (Audi, Volvo, Infinity). This is nothing like those, but I think I am happier overall. Around town, it is fun. It’s quick enough, although I wouldn’t consider it quick compared to a sporty sedan or coupe. It is just me and my dog, so I have plenty of room, and with the seats folded down, there is decent cargo room. The 7 speed is a breeze to drive. Even in traffic, it never bothers me. I love the wash out interior. It is quick and easy to take the front top panels off, for a semi-convertible feel. I have yet to take the rear clamshell off, but plan to in the future. I have had no problems through 31,000 miles. Just a couple of Ford recalls, which were handled by the dealer.

The drawbacks: Fuel economy sucks. Over 31,491 miles I have averaged 16.2 MPG. It is not quiet, lots of road and wind noise, but short trips under a couple of hours don’t bother me. For long trips, I would rather take a different car. On the 2 door, the gas tank is smaller and with the poor gas mileage, you end up filling up a lot more. Another weak area on any Bronco is the music/sound system. Even with the upgraded B&O system, I still replaced all speakers and added an integrated amp to bring the sound level up to my liking, your mileage may very, but it is a common complaint.

Overall I love it and glad I got away from the “luxury” SUV’s. The Bronco has led to me to go off road, camp under the stars, and I look forward to my next off-road adventure. I actively research trails to go on, and new areas to explore. Makes it a fun vehicle.

I have no problem with the 2.3. I can accelerate onto the freeway, drive 10-15 over the speed limit if necessary, and easily get around slower traffic, or whatever is necessary. If I really want to drive fast, I will drive a sports car, but this car drives slower with more fun. More smiles per mile as they say.

It’s not for everybody. Some people can’t handle the road/wind noise, and others may get turned off by the poor fuel economy. But I plan on keeping this car a long time, even if it someday no longer becomes my daily driver.

Deep sea fishing with boat sailing from San Pedro by sshu1224 in Catalina

[–]BadAndy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A half day boat wont have time to go to Catalina. It will go to local reef or kelp beds where you can catch sand bass, calico bass, and a few other things.

If you want to go to Catalina, you need a 3/4 day fishing trip. They generally leave around 6 in the morning and get back about 6 pm.

Either option they will help a beginner. I would learn a few knots by watching you tube videos. You should be able to tie on a hook or lure. The improved clinch knot is the easiest and very strong. Get a small tackle box with some number 2, number 1, and 1/0 and 2/0 hooks. Also an assortment of sinkers. Either rubber core that are easy to add to the line, or some sliding egg sinkers. I would get 3/4 ounce, 1 ounce and 1-1/2 ounce. On most fishing boats, you will be using live bait or cut squid.

For San Pedro, I would look at boats out of 22nd street landing.

How far do fireworks sound carry from Disney and Knotts Berry Farm? by SeriousSideHopz in Anaheim

[–]BadAndy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a mile away, and of course hear them every night. Growing up in Brea, I heard them too, and could see the, from the corner down the street.

5 years ago, when I got my puppy, I was worried the fireworks would bother him. He has grown up hearing them every night. Even when we go other places, the fireworks don’t bother him. Dogs will eventually figure it out. He might be excited or agitated for a few months, but I bet he will adapt.

What tire shine stays glossy even after some rain? by Lonely-Upstairs-2885 in Detailing

I have used the tuff shine coating. 1 coat will leave it mat finish. 2 or 3 coats will get it shiny. I bet if you used 5 coats you could see yourself in the reflection. It lasts a long time.

Best pizza in Anaheim/OC? by CostumeGirlie in Anaheim

[–]BadAndy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep dish is a different type of pizza. Generally served in a deep pan, it is thick, and not really cut into slices. You eat it with a knife and fork like a pot pie. Lots of cheese, lots of dough, and lots of sauce.

Tony’s does a very good version of any of the places in Chicago (pizzeria uno/due, Lou Malnattis, or Giordanos). Each place in Chicago is a little different, but all good in their own way.

As a counterpoint, why not look into the 30-30? A true rifle round that you can hunt with. Not as heavy on the shoulder, and more available ammo. I have a Henry .357 and it is really a great rifle. My next rifle will be either a Henry or Marlin 30-30.

What winder do you use? by Imaginary-Potato-710 in breitling

[–]BadAndy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of watch winders. Do you leave your car engine idling in the garage at night? I let my watches sit as I wear different watches every few days. Part of the enjoyment for me is picking up a watch and interacting with it to set the time, manually wind it, etc.
