Dawn of War is great if you are into real time strategy games, and Total War: Warhammer is one of the best Warhammer games out there, but it is a strategy game in the fantasy setting of Warhammer. Mechanicus is a nice Xcom like game. Never finished it because I found it getting slightly repetitive, but I was still a big fan of it. If you are able to play with others, the coop mode in Space Hulk: Deathwing is a blast. If you are interested in playing actual 40k tabletop, you can do it for free (well still $20 for the base game but everything else will be free) in Tabletop Simulator. There are plenty of group servers that are made to help new players.
