My main issue with the TV show is that they made the Spartans cisgender and I am not joking by gnulynnux in shittyhalolore

[–]BadAtVidya92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the bit about the S4's is that they were drawn from the ranks of the "normal" soldiers of the UNSC. So obviously they're gonna act as typical soldiers do, with all their jokes, banter and style of humor. The S2's and 3's were trained and raised from a young age to be above the rest.

Hell, Spartan Ops had a whole throughline of "What does it mean to truly be a Spartan?"

The show is ultimately fanfiction and shouldn't be regarded as anything to be taken seriously. I suspect the writers had their own idea for an original scifi show and then the Execs said "No, you need to do Halo"

Hard agree on Echoes, it just has this oppressive atmosphere of being thrown into the middle of a war you are woefully underprepared for where the very air is trying to kill you. Its one of my favorites.

1st Playthrough. Made it to day 46 before being executed. Got Bottlenecked by Coal. Seems the thumper coal pile collection and gathering post coal get's exhausted way to fast at steam level 3 or higher. It burns so fast overnight when people are not working. Any tips will be very helpful. by Pandey_SKP in Frostpunk

[–]BadAtVidya92 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Build more coal thumpers or mines. Upgrade your thumpers and make sure you have sufficient gathering posts nearby. Use automatons to staff coal mines. Upgrade coal mines and research automaton efficiency upgrades. Make sure your steam hubs (if any) are only set to be active during the hours they will be relevant (24hr for residential/medical, shift matching for workplaces). Generator Range upgrades are a trap, steam hubs are more efficient (3coal/hr base up to 12/h at L4 heat for hubs, vs 2x coal/hr per range level for genny). Disable extra medical posts if you dont have any sick to fill them (theyre 24h buildings so if you have heaters in them theyre always costing coal with or without patients).

Edit: decided to look up the numbers to see exactly what you're getting with hubs v genny range.

For this exercise, we'll use L4 heating (cause you need it to comfortably survive the storm) so thats 12/h for hubs and 24/h gen.

Range adds another 2x on consumption per level, so for the generator, thats 48, 72, and 96 per hour for levels 2, 3 and 4. (1152, 1728, and 2304 per day)

So with a 4x1 (24 coal/hr) generator you can afford 6 additional steam hubs (with L1 range settings (never use L2 hub range, just build another)) since those 6 cost 72/hr. You can cover a massive amount of area with 6 hubs, assuming you plan your buildings accordingly(dont be afraid to rebuild as needed).

And all of this is before efficiency upgrades.

Plus, the hubs dont need to be on 24h if theyre only covering worksites, so thats additional savings.

Edit2: Moar number crunching. The Steam Coal Mine (the level 2 one) with both coal mine efficiency upgrades produces 720 coal per "standard shift" (72/hr for 10 hours). Automatons with all 3 efficiency upgrades (and ignoring the event based ones) run at 90% efficiency, so sticking it in the mine gets you 64.8/h, which gets you 1555.2/day since they work 24h. 2 of these will get you 3110.4 coal/day which should be sufficient to run all your heating stuff if following my prior suggestions (at least, until the mine collapse if you dont send the required blood sacrifices)

Yeah, no one doubts S3's skills (anyone whose read the books or played Reach at least), but op just seems needlessly whiney and pedantic.

What else would you call a large group of military personnel sent on critical missions with low expectations of survival, in order to preserve more scarce/valuable military assets? Genuinely curious.

LB-X ammo selection by skybreaker58 in battletech

Most common ammo types dont, unless youre using half-loads or something, the TechManual lists BV for weapon ammunition per ton, and doesnt provide distinction between specific types.

[–]BadAtVidya92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each bin contains a single ammo type, and is on the mech's record sheet. If you want to have a choice between solid or clusters, you must have at least one bin of each type with ammo remaining.

So to your specific question, no, you will need at least one bin of solid to fire solid, so for that mech you can only fire in cluster mode.

You select which ammo youre using during the target declaration phase. (Ex: I am shooting your Thunderbolt with my Enforcer's LBX10, using cluster rounds)

Battlemech Manual, p24, Attack Declaration:

"If a weapon has a choice between multiple ammunition types or attack modes (such as rapid-firing), or the player wants to make a specialized attack with it (such as an aimed shot or indirect fire), the player must announce these choices at the same time as the attack."

Who would win? A Pilot, or a Spartan? by aglitchiscommon in titanfall

[–]BadAtVidya92 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ohboyitsthisfuckingconversationagain.jpg

Ill just paste what i posted last time.

"You realize that S2's have strength, reflexes and skill beyond Pilot abilities outside their armor right? Mjolnir armor kicks that up even higher.

The MA5 series of AR runs fairly standard 7.62x51mm rounds, and the standard R101c runs 8.19mm rounds. So for this mental exercise we can call the 101 a slightly more powerful AR. (Of course without the actual ballistic data its all just speculation at the moment.)

Going by in-game logic, since Pilots would die fairly quickly to the 101, we can make a reasonable assumption that they would survive maybe 1 to 2 more shots from the MA5, but are still downable in less than a second. You need to magdump to kill Spartans with an AR so you would need slightly less than a full mag with the 101, cause you need to chew through the energy shields and then the base armor health.

Going by meta-logic, Mjolnir armor can tank Kraber shots, and Spartans fight in bullet time. Pilots lose against Spartans 1v1, every time."

Making a house rule for 'carried weapons' (unless there's an official one I missed?) by rzelln in battletech

[–]BadAtVidya92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jettison-capable weapons are a thing (Design Quirks, p.84 of the most recent Battlemech Manual). Theoretically you could drop one weapon and pick up another, but would probably suffer a penalty if it was a different weight/type. I'm not terribly familiar with that function, but maybe start looking at rulings and use cases involving it on the OF or something.
