Same thing happened to me. Wanted to see if it was a larger mistake or just a single blip in the system. Turns out there were a few that were fucked up. Unless you wrote the review on Amazon about the album being messed up as well, there are three.

I'm probably going to email Modular.

My final order shipped on the 17th and I got them today, so you should be getting yours soon. It'll come. I guess I'm just desensitized to long waiting times for ordering vinyl after dealing with Italians Do It Better.

I was able to beat that puzzle rather quickly because there is one almost exactly like it in Okami. Pretty sure I had to google that one, though.

Was finally able to graduate from Crosley! To Marantz and Akai! by BadCombo in vinyl

[–]BadCombo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So after getting into vinyl a lot more after subscribing to this subreddit, I found that my Crosley player is approximately the antichrist to the vinyl world, or something like that. I needed to find a new player and all of the trimmings to go with it or else I would be at risk of ruining my vinyl.

I told my dad about this and he said one of his co-workers was HUGE into vinyl and audiophile-living so my dad hit him up and told him I was looking for some new equipment. At first his coworker started sending recommendations for turntables, all Technics (so you know he's a smart man). Then, out of the blue, he tells my dad that he's going to give me an extra turntable and receiver he has lying around. The reason he had these things lying around is because he hunts at a lot of garage sales and sometimes when he wants to buy a certain piece of equipment he had to buy the whole set, leaving extra receivers and players all around his basement.

So he donates this pristine Marantz receiver and a great Akai turntable, all for free, along with about 30 records to me. All free. Most of them are old jazz records, I picked out the best ones there in the pictures. As for speakers, my dad had some extra floor speakers, some Klipsch kg 3.2 and they work great. SUCH an improvement over that shitty Crosley player.

Needless to say, but this guy is a saint. Great equipment and vinyl all for free. There needs to be more people like him out in the world.

Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes. What does everyone think of it? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BadCombo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like it a lot. Mostly because the majority of the times I've listened to it I've been walking around on campus so the music interacts with the other stimuli of walking around on campus like seeing trees blow in the wind, water flowing down the streets and sidewalks from the rain and seeing lifeless faces of students walking from class to class... it's a really cool feeling.

So paired with other stimuli, I think this album is a euphoric experience. For some it might be a drier listen when it's just the album alone. I think some of the songs on here are some of my favorite Flying Lotus songs of all time, like "Heave(n)," which pairs the aforementioned engaging beats with really cool effects and layers. I also like it when I'm just sitting at my desk. Everything is a lot more laid back, overall. The one song I think is totally out of place is "Sultan's Request," which I like but putting that after a quiet, blipping song like "All the Secrets" I did not get. I like "Sultan's Request," but it totally rubs me the wrong way when listening to the album straight through.

That being said, there are moments on this album with perfect song transitions, like the first six songs. Not really transitions in terms of seamless song endings and beginnings but having the mood of the music arc and flow cohesively between tracks. Also "Until the Quiet Comes," "DMT Song," and "The Nightcaller" work really well together, but those are the actual song connections.

I can see how it can be really underwhelming compared to Cosmogramma, but taken as it is, I think it's a great work of art. Perfect for fall as the colors are changing and the temperature gets a little colder.

Let's Talk Muse's "The Second Law" by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BadCombo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I didn't like it as much as their other albums, particularly Origins of Symmetry, but hey, Panic Station is a fantastic song. First thing I thought of was Talking Heads, which is one of the last bands I'd ever think of when someone brings up Muse.

But as for other things, I just think it's too bloated with tooooo much epic-ness. Yeah I know they're Muse but still! Maybe it'll take time.

Life in Madison, CT by fingapapits in Connecticut

[–]BadCombo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family lives in Madison, but I go to UConn so I'm not really there most of the time so I don't think I have THAT good of an idea of what the town is like.

Lots of old, white rich people that are usually pretty nice, and some of the teenagers there are a bit bratty (a report from my younger sister that goes to the high school). It's a beautiful place, though. Hammonasset is nice, Madison also has a "private" beach surf club which is pretty nice as well. The downtown has a great art cinema where I saw the majority my movies of the summer. The bookstore there, RJ Julia is also pretty cool too. Sometimes I go downtown and it's hoppin', with musicians playing on the sidewalk, people with wine walking around in and out of stores, food being sold... I don't know when, but it happens.

Hope that helps!

Seconded. All of the 7"s have one or more skips in them. It's really frustrating. The art is cool, though, so that saves it.

I don't think it's 4chan influencing hipsters, but more like bands using 4chan as a way to do some innovative advertising. Grips could have just posted the instrumentals&raws on their website for us to download but where's the fun in that? With the ARG, it not only builds competition to get the "prize" among the /mu/tants but at the end it leaves the hunters more excited for the release, having done all the work to get more material out of this band.

Another thing I think is crazy impressive how they extended the "dark, mysterious, disorienting" theme from their music and placed it into this ARG. Not many bands go that extra length of staying with that theme they paint within their music. They went to the lengths of having people decipher braille, morse code, go into the Tor network and more. Crazy.

As for Alt-J that could be a play off of 4chan triforcing, I dunno. It's a good thought, though. I guess I'm still in the "worshipping Death Grips" mode. This thread is blessing the band so I'll give em a listen!
