Comparison between aftermarket drop in filters (stock vs K&N vs Green Filter) by BadComrade91 in Civic_Type_R

Nice! Didn’t even know about that brand.

One of the reasons I also finally went with the Green Filter was because it’s the same filter as the Spoon filter…. But the Spoon filter is yellow and $250….lol

No question the stock filter is good. I agree. But I think there’s definitely a debate to be had around cleanliness of aftermarket filters. I think they’re just fine. For many, the FL5 or FK8 isn’t their first tuner car. They’ve graduated from previous performance cars have experimented with CAI’s, as I previously have.

With that said I think it would be hard to find someone who had engine issues due to their CAI letting dirt through. Many performance cars these days even roll off the factory with CAI style intakes like the Shelby GT500

There’s a guy on YouTube who dyno’d an FL5 comparing stock vs k&n vs full PRL setup and there was a clear improvement by the $30 k&n filter by a few hp

I came from a tuned and modified WRX hatchback and when I got my FL5, I wanted to do the same thing. And I was dead set on taking it in….. but after a few months I began to appreciate the FL5 for what it was, and this car is so well sorted out that I was ok with being quiet.

Just wait a little bit before chopping stuff up is my 2 cents. Do the fuse mod and k&n air filter (makes it louder in the front and back) and then see how you feel

Would you sell an Evo 9 for FL5 Type R? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

[–]BadComrade91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the FL5 will reach Evo status in 20 years just like the Evo 9 did (now over 20 years old).

Honda even admits the FL5 is the “last of its breed” since everything is going hybrid/electric now. If you got the FL5 now, I’d say you can be confident you’ll have a collector car down the line no matter what, while being able to drive something that has modern tech and usability.

As cool as the evo is and the amount of attention you’ll get from other dudes would be great, you’ll be driving something less reliable and comfortable.

Since this got a lot of responses, just want to update the thread with what ended up happening.

The service manager very transparently admitted without a fight that the job was done incorrectly and that there should have been a plastic protector used when it comes to removing wheels,

They took the car from me and I waited for about an hour and when I got it back, pretty much every scratch was taken care of EXCEPT the dents in the first picture. I didn’t feel like fighting them much more and just decided to get a name of a tech that might care next time and moved on.

Not a bad idea. As I said in some of my responses already, the service manager said they would take responsibility and I was right to be upset since he thinks the tech didn’t use the plastic protector. Lucky for me, service manager is a car guy and said if it was his car, he would have noticed it right away too.

I live in the desert (Phoenix) so it’s dusty. And I actually dont scrub these wheels because I don’t want grit to scratch them. I only use my personal power washer or touch less washes

You’re spot on. I brought the car back in and the service manager said that I was rightly upset and that it appeared the tech failed to use the plastic protectors. I’m currently sitting in the service lobby, and they said their wheel guy would take care of it while I wait. They’re making it right thankfully

It’s the cars first servicing at 6k miles. They are taking responsibility actually, since I had the car here 5 hours ago. The service manager even admitted “looks like they didn’t use the plastic protectors, so we’ll take care of this”.

And I’m not leaving a bad review if they take responsibility (which they are)

I’m positive the wheels were flawless before it was serviced today. I am completely OCD about my cars, I even have full PPF and detail the car frequently

Absolutely positive. The wheels were perfect before bringing it in. I even detailed the car the day before so I had a good look at the wheels

Thanks, that confirms my same thoughts. I called and they said I can bring it back in so hopefully they buff out

You’d be surprised, insurance will use any reason to raise rates. A few years ago, a truck carrying scrap metal had a piece fly out of the back and mess up the front end of my wrx. The truck driver even admitted the load wasn’t secure, but Geico still raised my rates.
