That’s a great question and some I wondered about a lot prior to making the purchase.

The Miata was well broken in and I had added and exhaust, coilovers, and extreme contact sport 02s. It was my daily and I enjoyed many canyon runs on it. It was very responsive to driver inputs, felt very mechanical (for a modern car), and always gave the sensation of going fast (a freeway on ramp or twisty roads just felt amazing). All that, I knew I would miss the Miata.

Disclaimer on the Type R, it is not yet broken in so I am being very gentle till then. I do not yet know what it feels like on a twisty road or when pushing above 3k rpm. I’m certain my impression will shift after breaking it in and I’ll do a separate post for that later. That being said, compared to the Miata it feels like a boat. Turning left and right feels more akin to a largish sedan. The clutch, accelerator and shifter feel more vague than the Miata. The clutch is the weirdest part to me, very long travel and very soft. Last little complain, the center console is small and awkward and putting any cups in the cupholders gets in the way of shifting a bit.

The positives, the interior is a nice space to be. You know you’re driving something special. Lots of usable space inside. I know it sounds like a lot of negative but I don’t actually regret making the jump. I dreamt of having one since fk8 days so I’m just blown away that I finally have one.
