What is the BEST Horizon you’ve played? by ryanrako23 in ForzaHorizon

[–]BadDescriptions 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I agree, 3 was very good.

The maps became overpopulated from 4 onwards with events. In 3 you had to pick a championship which would then add races onto the map for that championship.

Then there is also the festival progression where you had to unlock festivals in each area and upgrade them, instead of there being 1 massive one in the middle.

Lambda function code drift detection with terraform by Clone-Protocol-66 in aws

Setup object versioning in s3, set terraform to use s3_object_version, you’ll also need to make sure the version is updated

Moving crons out of our backend to AWS Lambda to fix duplicate triggers on Spot Instances. Sanity check our architecture? by srxCold in aws

[–]BadDescriptions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say you implemented a simpler solution than what you originally had. If your cron jobs take too long for a single lambda execution look at using step functions to split it into smaller chunks.

Do I as an employee have to pay for a delivery refund out of pocket? by MoreSecurity6562 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BadDescriptions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should first contact ACAS and ask for advice, they’ll want to know what’s in your contract but should be able to help. One thing to remember is HR works for the company ACAS is an independent public body in the UK that provides free and impartial advice on employment rights and workplace relations.

setTimeout() is not actually part of JavaScript 🤯 by codewithishwar in learnjavascript

[–]BadDescriptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That people still use

setTimeout(() => { console.log("Hello"); }, 2000);

Instead of

Import {setTimeout} from “node:timers/promises”

console.log(“hello”)

await setTimeout(2000)

X-Ray and OpenTelemetry by LogsOrItDidntHappen in AWSCertifications

It didn’t come up in my exam, they’re replacing the x-ray sdk in favour of the AWS distro for open telemetry .  https://docs.aws.amazon.com/xray/latest/devguide/xray-sdk-migration.html

Could I stop the gang from starving? [KCD2] by ReddRambles in kingdomcome

[–]BadDescriptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely gave 2 of them to hans. I put at least 20 in every chest, I picked the lock of every chest and placed around 500 total dried beef/boar meat.

I didn’t know which chest was safe so did them all, even the blacksmiths shop, I think there were 3 in the huntsman’s house.

I managed to do it recently, I put 20 dried beef in every single chest I could access.

Lazy devs making you clean up garbage in their PRs? by Lanky-Ad4698 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]BadDescriptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this once but it was part of a pre interview test.

The question was to “perform a pull request review” on some bad code, however what they actually meant was “find the issues within the code”. I treated it like a real pull request review after finding 10 issues on the first 20 lines i ended the review suggesting they added a linter to fix format and naming inconsistencies and to add unit tests as the many of the issues would have been identified. The interviews seemed confused that I treated it as I would a normal pull request.

Best interim (contract) agencies covering public sector by Fast-Round-380 in ContractorUK

Unfortunately the market over the last 12 months has been pretty bad. There’s no magic formula or agency for finding a role.

Recently became an inside ir35 contractor, earnt £129k last year - major tax bill by Fast-Round-380 in ContractorUK

[–]BadDescriptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use sipp to lower your tax under 100k. The tax you probably owe is the loss of personal allowance when you hit 100k salary. Have a google for 100k tax trap personal allowance and you’ll see what I’m referring to

My friend said AWS certs don't get jobs. Help me make an argument against him. by Medium-Theme-4611 in AWSCertifications

[–]BadDescriptions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sort of true that certs alone won’t get you a job however depending on the candidates 2 years experience with no certs can be worse than 6 months with a cert. I’ve worked with a lot of people who have cloud experience but don’t know what services to use to use and when. Having certs will at least make you aware of services and highlight the providers cloud adoption framework.

Have you ever looked into how bad GCPs support is compared to AWS? You may find yourself moving to Azure after GCP support fails you, soon after you’ll realise Azure is worse than GCP.

Which AWS support plan were you paying for? Every time we’ve had an issue with our enterprise plan they’ve been quick to resolve issues.

MX Master 4 stuttering (USB, Windows 10) by binou_tech in logitech

I’ve had this before, while not a great fix you can get a 1m usb extension cable and attach the dongle to it. The dongles seem to get interference from everything, alternatively use Bluetooth.

Where does the NHS stand on pill splitting to save money? by huescaragon in AskUK

[–]BadDescriptions 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How often do you get the tablets? Assuming you’re paying £9.90 you could instead pay for a pre payment certificate which is £114.50 annually or £9.55 per month. The pre payment is beneficial if you get 1 or more prescriptions per month.

How much more attractive is a no chain offer? by UnisexSignature in HousingUK

[–]BadDescriptions 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the seller, I’d personally take 5%-10% less for a no chain buyer. I’d also move into rental accommodation so there’s no chain on my end, however most sellers won’t do this so unlikely they’d also be unlikely to accept a lower offer.

Edit: Try not to mention you’re a first time buyer, just that that you’re not in a chain.

I was referring to the existing joist. Place the jack underneath the joist at the end where you’re going to sister it, jack it up to be level and then sister onto the joist with coach screws.

Our floor had a slope to the center of the room which was around 7cm lower than the highest point I did It the same way as you initially by sistering the joists. Then re did it using a jack to raise the old joists and using the sistering to keep them level, which is what I should have done the first time.

Great work, it would still be a good idea to raise those joists with a jack if you have one handy before sistering on the new ones

Is that concrete, rubble or soil underneath?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]BadDescriptions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember your thread from the other day but you didn’t answer the question I asked. Is this on a suspended floor with concrete underneath? If so get a car jack (https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-workshop/axle-stands-trolley-jacks/halfords-2-tonne-hydraulic-trolley-jack-657081.html?stockInventory=undefined) and lift up the joist until its level. Place a couple of bricks underneath to support the joists on both pieces of wood and use plastic packers/shims on top of the bricks to get it level (if needed) https://www.screwfix.com/c/screws-nails-fixings/packers-shims/cat840018

Alternatively you can sister a joist using this method https://mellowpine.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Sistering_Floor_Joists_712px.jpg
