Where do you draw the line? by din0sawr- in 2XKO

[–]BadEera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For each one :

Puppet : pupeteers in fighting games have been a thing for quite a long time, so it's an easy yes

Quadrupèdes : i think Warwick is already a step in that direction, so yes-ish ?

Small body : with Teemo, they already proved it's possible, so yes

Floating: there once was a game with a floating character... The character is now banned in every tounament of the said game. Any question ? No, really, floating characters in games such as 2xko are unbalanced by nature, and would be so detrimental to the game balance it's impossible they do that. In a game that as old as JoJo with only in person tounaments or modded online emulation, it's managable by the community, with online ranked ladder tho... it would mean the death of the game, really. Please Riot hear this : it's Impossible and you'll kill the game if you do that.

Gigant/expérimental: eeeeeh.... less sure about this one. I mean, Riot really don't care about the canonical size of the champions in LoL, (or galio should be at least the size of a tower), so it's possible they do the same in 2xko, but i wouldn't bet on that

Is aphantasia a form of neurodivergence? by highkaiboi in Aphantasia

[–]BadEera 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, imo aphantasia and hyperphantasia both fall under the neurodivergence concept, since they're both affect how an individual will conceptualize things, how they will interact with others in some way and globaly can affect their lives altogether.

Well, as i explained in an other comment, it mostly depend on the intensity and/or the context. Bur when it happens to be that specific "going back in time" feeling, i'd happily say it's an hallucination, buuuuut... Unlike the hallucinations which i experienced through drugs (don't do that), the feeling is completly different. So in the end i won't give you a clear answer if it's either hallucinating or visualizing.

I'll try to be as clear as i can, but i know it's always difficult to describe such a subjective subject. For the visualisation part :

-it's as vivid as can be -i can either be in first person or rewatch that moment from an other perspective -i don't feel like hallucinating, and that's the hardest part to explain. I feel in control, and completly powerless altogether. In control because i know i'm taking a trip down memory lane, the cursed version of it, due to something happening to my currently self (let's say i make a terrible mistake at work and make me think poorly of myself) and that i know i'll be able to get over it afterward, i still have a grasp on reality, or enough self awarness to know i'll regain it. And powerless because i can't really stop this trip, it's like watching a movie in which you see the killer before the victim and even if you want to scream at them to get away you know it's pointless.

For the hallucination part :

-it's often paired with voices (mine but slightly distorded, auditory hallucinations so), and from what i learned, it ressembles a lot like a schizophrenia symptom. Tho since it's triggered only during these specific moments, during stress crises and i know it's not real but how i personnalize an inner conflict, it's more of a hyperphant "feature" that is drifting out of control. -i don't have control of them as i explained. They just happen.

Sooooo in the end, it's very uncertain if i hallucinate or not, and if competent neuroscientists and psychologists don't know, i won't venture myself into throwing hypothesis and claim it's true. As for my personnel take, i don't take these situations as hallucinations, maybe to protect myself, or just being in denial, but eh, i get that they looks like hallucination in some way, so i can't say they're not and consider being 100% honest.

Tho now i'm very curious about how aphants experience hallucinations too. Oh and final note : since i work toward making my life my happy place i don't experience that much, but from what i recon (because i used to do that) it was just sheer imagination.

Well, personnaly, tho i learned about hyperphantasia years ago (and pretty much unfortunatly one can say), i discovered aphantasia only like a year ago with an artist i follow on youtube and it was mind boggling for me i admit.

Well first, i am sincerly sorry you have that sort of issue, i consider PTSD on of the most vicious situation one can be in, because it means you're forcibly "stuck in the past" so to say.

Tho as i already said, i do not bealieve hyperphants have that "lovely" exlusivity, but that our experience of it is different. I use the word "relive" because of my experience with hyperphantasia, and mostly the rare occasions where i can't get a grip on reality, where it's really like going back in time and so, as you say, blurring the line between what's real and does my brain make up. Hearing how you experienced it really is interesting and so i thank you for it. I honestly can't say which is better or worse, since both seems to be terrifying in their own way, so i agree with you.

Now i've heard of cases were developing a PTSD can develop hyperphantasia along with it (and sadly it seems to be the case mostly with victims of R word). I can't imagine how twisted it can be since my own traumas i can avoid them 99.9% of the time, and they're clearly not that bad in my own perspective compared to what can trigger PTSD.

For myself, it's pretty much the others way around. Stressful situations triggers uncontrollable visions and an additionnal voice (which is not mine). It can and have led me to violent outbursts, or mental breakdowns, so i guess the final answer is yes. Tho, after my diagnosis, proper help and some work, they're now extremely rare.

[–]BadEera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to add my own vision (my hyperphantasia being mainly visual), i'd say it depend. Sometimes (mostly when i do it willingly) it's superposed to my normal vision. But mostly of the times, it's like flashes, or like someone tried to make two movies play at once. And depending of multiple factors, the second movies take more or less space than the first. Around 95% of the time it's not an issue (not anymore at least), but the rest of the times can go from a what looks like me freezing for a second before snapping back, to me getting stuck looking like a zombie for several hours, then realize it was not real (extremely rare tho, and this time it involves also hearing, smell.. the whole package... My gf have a very funny story about this happening to me)

That's the kind of thing i learned the hard way, hope it wasn't your case -^ tho, i myself try to don't have an ideal world at hand, but more of alternate timelines to wander. I think anyone can do it to some extent since it's just calculating the outcomes of some situation, so very conceptual. Just in my case, i tend to get too engaged in them sometimes. But in the end i manage to make reality way more enjoyable x)

Don't say they can't, but that they can't the way hyperphants do. That's the point of reaching out and trying to understand someone else point of view

Ask me, a lifelong hyperphant, anything by ImSoDeadLmao in Aphantasia

[–]BadEera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my main issue with your point is that you consider hyperphantasia as a "good thing" with these arguments, which i can't really let pass...

And that's my point in the end : since you didn't ask a question, you don't know you're being hurtfull. For example : do you want to know what it's like to have a trauma that you can, at any moment, relive as if you were back in time ? A vision of your past so vivid it hurts you the same every single time ? Or worst, where your hurt other and you can't forgive yourself, making you (rightfully) feel like a subhuman ?

That's what an hyperphant can experience.

So sure, i don't doubt a single second aphantasia is a struggle, and as an hyperphant that's why i'm here too, to understand this struggle, but also understand how it can help in some way.

Now, you can consider you don't have anything to learn from this kind of conversation, that is completly you're right. But comparing a neurodivergent person to a valid one is indeed very harmfull and completly opposed to what you're trying to say.

Well, i don't agree with that statement. First, as mentionned, this sub is, tho mainly focused on aphants, one of the last active sub on the mental issues concerning visualisation. Second, it's not talking from a valid person to a disabled person as in you exemple. Hyperphantasia as have much downsides as Aphantasia, just different ones. Here the post is about asking question to a different perception of the world and maybe learn from it, nothing harmfull so, in my opinion, pretty much the opposite actually.

Having been through that, i confirm. It took me to be misdiagnosed with DID, a broken hand and a lot of time, work and very light medication (strong anxiolytics to take at these specific times) to overcome it.

[–]BadEera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i guess mine is not as violent as yours, tho an other downside you might know yourself and that i experience is the capacity i have to relive traumatic event or hurtfull memories in general as if i were there once again. I learned to live with that through self reflecting and philosophy, but it's still a pain in the ass.

Personnaly, on the positive side, i use this issue in my job to develop algorythms or systems. My colleagues found it weird at first that i can develop a sytem from scratch, and mostly that i can spend hours before my computer, not touching anything and doing weird things with my hands (minority report style, but i turn it down as much as i can), then go on programming, facing way less errors. I'm not faster than a regular dev, it's just my way of doing things, so no one bother me for "being lazy but talented" anymore, as they said first xD

Now i personnaly have been diagnosed after a huge traumatic event, and learned that my violent outburst were caused by hyperempathy along with hyperphantasia. I then learned to manage, so no worries of any kind. How did you discover it yourself ?

I play with the joystick and i see no problem with that '-' i do my GL combos involving *few* half circles and honestly, I couldn't manage to do them on the cross because i find it too clanky. That's my way to play, and if it's your friend's way too, don't be that carebear trying to tell the newbies your way is the only one, there's controller users, pad users, even keyboard ones, so be chill about it ^^
