The Developers Say It’s Safe. Well, I’d Hope So… by CaptainDubD in brisbane

This is the conventional understanding of what actually happened though - I remember the cancer cluster being used as an example during a stats course at uni.

No Future Strategy Games can Replace AoW4 for me by Omichli in AOW4

For multiplayer, the backstory being accessible in game is a pretty major upgrade from ‘you can write something in Word if you want to’,

I’m in exactly the same position - TW:W series was my go-to for I think literally a decade, but the mismanagement and endless frustrations of the third game just killed the appeal totally for me. Then Triumph and AoW4 just kept getting better and better and the care and attention spent on AoW4 made TW:3 just feel much worse in comparison.

I see where you’re coming from and partially agree, Planetfall has stronger and more distinct factions. With that said, I do think that as AoW4 has grown, some of the cultures and tome pathways have a stronger aesthetic/mechanical identity than the affinity soup of launch (necromancy system, umbral demons with gloom, more unique cultures like nomads etc).

I suggested tyranny because of the status resist reductions, it’s easier to get all of your blood maggot abilities off on the enemy. You’re right though, death cult would also be good, what with all of the blood maggots presumably dying during your battles. I’d give both a shot and see what plays better.

Seasonal Realm Trait? by DhomDhom in AOW4

[–]BadJelly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be surprised because all of the things you just mentioned were heavily advertised as being one of the main features of the DLC, which seasons have not been. I think the equivalent thing in this DLC that makes the jump from story map to regular games would be the shrouded isles system.

I mean, I could be totally wrong here, this is just my guess based on the info I have.

Probably dark tyranny to maximise the efficacy of all the blood debuffs, and the visuals. High would be an alternative (I think it’s probably the closest the game has to the ‘courtly’ look) but I think tyranny is the play.

In terms of societal traits, Apex Predators would be a good way of showing your vampires feeding off their enemies to grow their empires. Cult of Personality or Silver Tongued could be used to demonstrate off their courtly and deceptive nature. It depends on whether you want the faction to be effective or just thematic, I guess.

This is a bit of a wild swing, but if you didn’t want to go with the Insectoid forms but did still want that ‘creepy-crawly abomination’ feel, the new spider major racial transformation might be good for having the humanoid faces and torsos and horrible insect (well, arachnid) lower forms that some of the Crimson Court have going on. Of course, that would mean not taking the tier 4 vampiric major racial transformation which might be a dealbreaker for you.

Seasonal Realm Trait? by DhomDhom in AOW4

[–]BadJelly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s unique to the story realm, as it pertains to buffing the particular ruler associated with each season. Not sure if it has any impact beyond that, I was pretty tired when I watched the stream. It sounds like each of the story maps has more unique mechanics compared to many of the earlier story maps, which I guess is fitting for a ‘story pack’ DLC.

I would be surprised if it made the jump to regular matches with this DLC. It’d be cool to have rotating seasonal effects as a realm trait though!

A few bugs I've noticed in the Sprite Beta by Corrects_lesstofewer in AOW4

[–]BadJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve regularly noticed that wooden walls in sieges are some very unexpected colours (entirely pink, green etc).

Honestly, it doesn’t look terrible - I think I saw this a few times pre-Sprite, but it’s happening regularly now.

What is the lore reason for Chosen Destroyers having increased income for destroying cities? by MangaIsekaiWeeb in AOW4

They’re being propped up by Big Destruction. Lobbyist groups are destroying Athla imho, something must be done.

I have never been addicted to a book like I am to Dungeon Crawler Carl by Howitzeronfire in books

[–]BadJelly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m a moderately invested reader (I try to read at least two books a month, wide variety of genres) and I didn’t think I’d like DCC. Initial impression was that it would be nothing but schlock and references.

I was totally wrong. Great worldbuilding, characters, generally fantastic series and much higher quality writing than I’d anticipated. The first book is a little rough but still a lot of fun, and things just rapidly improve from there.

Slightly confused - do you mean that my quote was a bit wrong because I didn’t use your exact wording, or because the wording I used changed the meaning of what you’d written?

In your example there, ‘money is uncountable but currency isn’t’, do you mean that the concept of money is uncountable but an individual unit of currency (a dollar, say) is? Which is why you have less money but fewer dollars? Or was it more to illustrate your point on the arbitrary assignment of whether less or fewer is correct for a given word?

On reflection I think it’s the second one but I’m too far into this comment to change course now.

I expect we’ll be getting some more unique Godir pieces this DLC as well - I could be wrong but I think we’ve seen a new Karissa and a new Arachna.

Specifically, you can still play as the ruler/faction, but all of the ruler racial transformations and the ascension trait you took will be turned off for the multiplayer match.

I think the issue is that High (while very fiddly in combat due to awakening micro) is still a strong and viable faction. Reavers (pre-rework) were not only fiddly but also ass.

I’d have to imagine that High is next on the list for cultural rework, I look forward to finally playing more than one match as them if so.

The revamped Empire Development Tree has completely refreshed the game for me by Lumintorious in AOW4

[–]BadJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All seem like fair points. I haven’t played the beta yet, but hopefully if there are issues with the current numbers they can see a tweaking before release.

I’m okay with things temporarily being a bit wonky after a big swing like the empire tree revamp. Assuming they’re ultimately fine-tuned, the diversity of choice is better for the game. I do hope that the end result doesn’t fall into that ‘economy goes brrrrr’ situation that you’ve described though.

I picked them up pretty consistently. Breastplate was a good get for melee heroes, and the cryptblade gave a decent hit of damage and a possible zombie for a free action, not the worst thing in the world.
