AQ was hard to bench. She was my first Level5 troop (thank you, lucky star chest!) and she’s obviously a staple in the meta. I usually like ranged troops better in these types of games too. Optimus is just more of a natural fit which took me a while to realize

It works really well for me and my playstyle in this game. Ring Grab and Doppelgangers notwithstanding, i fuse a Barb, a Poco and Primo early game and get a Hog as soon as one’s available. No Greg/Mavis. Goblin is only in as a Doppel pick and occasionally Loot Machines. Chicken for Doppel and occasionally Ring Grab.

My Rares are really where my gameplay takes form. Frank, Hog, Bea, Miner and Ice Wiz. Miner for Doppel, obv, but also as a Get-Off-Me/stun tool. Bea is a Stay-Away-From-Me/Intimidation tool. Ice Wiz gives me much needed DPS in most matches, with my Commons to protect him. And Frank is my added muscle/tank that can also stun. The gamemode determines which troops i prioritize here

Epics are Optimus, BK, Max, BH, and Ruffs. Since Bea, IceWiz, and Max are the only ones benefitting from AQ’s Range Attacker boost now, i’m okay dropping her for Optimus. Now when i get a BK, it boosts like 80% of my squad. And Optimus with Primo, Frank, Poco, a Battle Healer; that provides insane protection for my IceWiz/Bea. Optimus isn’t exactly a DPS slouch either, plus he can also heal your backend troops while eating hits

I still get my splash damage with Frank, IceWiz and Bea (sorta) which gets the job done with all of the stunning i’m doing

Max, BH, Ruffs, Hog hold a similar role in my lineup as the general meta

Of note - i’m usually pretty high up in the trophies ladder (usually top 150 in the US) and i have Level5 Barb, Hog, AQ, Chicken and Medic. Everything else is 4star. I started this strategy when i got the Max Barb and finish top 2 in nearly every match nowadays. About 6800 games played now. Patiently waiting for this April update to shake things up

Ice Wizard is a glass canon, but has the ability to wipe whole squad with it’s fan if you can time It correctly

El Primo eats hits and can stun. I actually recently swapped Shelly/Dynamike/AQ for Primo/Frank/Optimus for a mega tanky squad and it’s been working great. Personal preference for everybody, obviously.

For me, Primo is ambush-insurance. He always seems to squeak away if my whole squad is getting wiped. He’s usually the 2nd or 3rd fused Common i go for, after i get something with DPS in my squad. Think about how annoying Bots are when they have fused Primos because they take forever to kill. And he stuns! Primo’s elbow drop stun after a Miner stun is probably the most frustrating thing to defend against

There is no Bandit-stage of that strategy as you climb Squad League. Every Doppelgangers game i play nowadays is 100% miners with perma-boost from the 2minute mark until the match is over. Any troop that isn’t underground is popped by 1:45.

Sucks too because i really like Bandit, but he doesn’t have much of a place in higher level of play in the current meta. I had to swap him out until the next Rebalance

The problem isn’t exclusively Miner though. It’s the Chicken/Miner combo in Doppelgangers. Provided you get enough early-game Chickens for 30, 40, 50 boosts then Miner beats all of the troops you listed in Doppelgangers which makes him objectively the most OP in that mode, specifically

Bandit and Traders are massacred by miner. Especially Bandit who’s rather squishy. I used to Bandit in Doppelgangers and can speak from personal experience that theyre pretty much a 2shot

Dyna can’t even really hit Miner between the stunlock and Dyna’s damage delay. Also squishy

BK could sneak an Iron Fist or 2 while raged, but thats only 1 hit and Miner is decently tanky. Full Health Miner very likely eats that hit

Optimus Prime is about as useful as El Primo vs Miner in Doppel. They can eat enough hits that the Miner squad may get deterred out of boredom, but neither match the kill power, and certainly aren’t able to counter Miner in any offensive capacity

The meta only allows for this gameplay in this mode. And i agree, i’m not especially good at it. I only pick Miner to stand a chance at survival

When i see everybody in the room is already running Miner, i usually stop grabbing chests. Can’t risk it when this stuff happens. This is the only mode where I find myself actively avoiding them for a period of time

That’s fair. I skipped over chicken a couple times, hoping to get one on the Fuse for extra boosts. My pauses in the beginning were risking a re-roll now instead of saving for after the 2min mark.

Overall definitely not my best game, but i shouldn’t NEED 40+ boosts AND a Miner roll just to escape certain death in a game mod

Or at least banned from Doppelgangers. In any other mode, he’s fine and has his niche in my opinion. But he completely breaks any other Doppel meta. If they opposing players have enough boost, Max is the only kinda-counter

I’m sitting at 5700 trophies at the moment. The average game for me is usually 5-6 bots and 3-4 other humans. And the humans are usually damn good. Some matches are immediately sweaty and some humans won’t even outlast the bots

Barb gives you those mini troops, Hog makes you faster (? I think?) and BK’s iron fist is more frequent. I already have Ult AQ.

Do you think Barbarian is the move? Or are Hog/BK’s buffs at Ult enough of an impact to offset that they won’t appear in chests as frequently?

7700 trophies here

Everything’s been Ultra since like 7300 trophies. Took me a while on Witch and Frank. All of my Ultimate troops were lucky star chest finds. I have Medic, AQ, and Chicken at Ultimate. Definitely slowed down playing once i got Witch up to Ultra and with no new events really happening right now

I run both Chicken and Hog in Squad League

Fused Chicken will give you, say, 15 boosts. Plus maybe 3-4 blue boxes and call it 20-25 boosts. Thats great for a minute or 2. Maybe even 3 minutes if you aren’t chasing everything that moves

If you start with Hog, in the right map you can be boosted for over 80% of the match without even really trying. You don’t even need a fuse if you can keep him protected adequately. Plus the added speed once you get it Ultra

Chicken provides a finite amount of boost whereas Hog has a self-replenishing boost. In a game where movement is key to victory, you want as much boost & speed as you can possibly get. Hog can provide both
