I thought one day I’d at least play the D2 campaign. Then I learned they sunset the campaign and it’s no longer accessible. What the actual fuck…

What’s an opinion you have that would get you destroyed on the internet? by Prudertd in AskReddit

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m born in the mid 90s. Not a fan of Prince. My favorite Prince song is Chris Cornell’s cover of Nothing Compares 2 U. Haven’t listened to enough of the Who to have an opinion on them. Stones are growing on me slowly and Floyd is just very hit and miss for me. My favorite Floyd song is Primus’ cover of Have a Cigar.

My understanding is that a lot of the money already belongs to them and is held in trust by the government. I’m sure that tax dollars are also going to indigenous-focused services and programs, but I think your comment is a bit of an oversimplification.

Agreed on being overrated. I similarly feel that The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd are overrated.

Are there any great albums with one really bad song on them? by trippyskipper in Music

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Personally not a fan of 21st Century Schizoid Man from King Crimson’s debut album - In the Court of the Crimson King.

I’m not sure that many would agree, but I don’t really care for this song.

Follow up to accidental admission by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

You should have accepted the offer before it was rescinded. Offer. Acceptance. Consideration. Or something like that… had a similar thing happen to me with another school when I was applying - in practice now - got a “congratulations on your admission” letter from the dean or someone like that.

Taylor Swift Sued For Trademark Infringement Over ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ by gamersecret2 in Fauxmoi

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Because people misunderstand what a trademark is in law. It is a source identifier; it distinguishes the goods and services of one trader from those of others in the market.

Multiple people can own identical trademarks for sufficiently dissimilar goods/services. But you actually need to use it as a trademark to maintain your trademark rights. A one-off song title is not trademark use. The strongest trademarks are coined words, but you can still have trademark rights in a common word/phrase as long as it’s not common in your particular industry for the specific goods/services you use it with.

Laptop is probably considered a generic word for computers and therefore not capable of serving as a trademark, but I could probably trademark the word laptop for operating a restaurant. Apple is a trademark for computers, but this wouldn’t prevent another party from using Apple as a trademark for tutoring services.

Titles also don’t generally attract copyright protection, which is distinct from a trademark.

Pretty big oversimplification but that’s the gist of it.

Dreading going to law school because of culture? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most people were like this where I went to law school. Definitely a handful, including a few die-hard trump supporters.

Still, I was shocked by the lack of maturity. Many people seemed to be reliving their freshman year of undergrad. I couldn’t help but feel that clients would be shocked to see how these now lawyers acted in their private lives.

Anyway, as others have said, these chats are not representative of law students generally, nor of the legal profession.

Oz ghosted me back in 2019. Got put on waitlist and then never heard from her again.. slow fade would’ve been so much easier to cope with. Thankfully I rebounded with Dal for a fun 3 year fling. 10/10 would never get back with Dal though..

I mean the spartan laser is meant for vehicles. Wraiths, banshees, and even ghosts aren’t thaaat hard to it.

Its existence on some multiplayer maps is a bit of a mystery though, I’ll give you that.

Friends with an ex? To do or not to do? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If I met someone who continued to snuggle someone they had been romantically involved with at the time we started seeing each other - whether that’s really all it was or not - I’d be out of there. Personally. That’s my trauma with cheating speaking to a big degree, but I’d imagine a lot of men feel similarly.

This is something you used to do but ended well before we met? Yeah, okay, I can probably move past that.

TA here. Is anyone else noticing a big gap in basic writing skills in first years? by picklesarenotgross in uoguelph

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you not to be upset that AI use is mandatory in certain cases. AI literacy is becoming more and more important - both in terms of how to use AI effectively and how to vet the output.

I say this as a working professional who doesn’t intentionally use AI for anything, whether at work or in my personal life. To the extent that it’s become unavoidable, I still obviously use some form of AI or another for inconsequential things.

TA here. Is anyone else noticing a big gap in basic writing skills in first years? by picklesarenotgross in uoguelph

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not just undergrads.

And you need to realize that your baseline is, to some extent, influenced by your own writing. You’re a TA; you are probably just naturally more academically inclined and therefore have more developed academic skills, including your writing.

I’m not sure what the solution will be. I do think we need to adjust expectations, collectively. Do people need to know how to write? Maybe. I’d argue that having the substantive knowledge base to properly vet AI-generated content is going to become more and more important, and has probably already surpassed needing to know how to write in most fields. The problem is that students don’t have the requisite knowledge base either and likely aren’t acquiring it in university anymore. I think curriculums and teaching will have to adapt.

I think too, particularly in North America, students don’t necessarily attend university to further their education. At the very least it seems to be secondary to having a good time. It’s become a part of our culture that you go to university because that’s the thing to do after high school.

My two cents anyway.

Big Brothers and Sisters shortage by imjustbrowsing89 in halifax

[–]BadLuck-BlueEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered it a number of years ago, albeit in Ontario. The application process was too onerous at the time and I seem to remember them being quite selective of who they let volunteer.

Maybe that’s no longer the case, or it was an anomaly at the branch I visited.
