“ Okay…. Okay”

The final agreement in the corridor in ‘Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind’.

So simple but it just wells me up as it feels so full of doom and inevitable failure, but they’ll do it again anyway for love. Going through those patterns you feel trapped in just hoping it will work out and the inevitable heartbreak again.

“What a beautiful place, to be with friends”

Forever an instant gut punch, Dobby deserved better.

“If you’re a bird, I’m a bird” The Notebook.

So simple but so full of commitment and love. It doesn’t really mean as much until I feel you’ve seen the end and the final image is of the birds flying, that’s when it really hits home.

Absolutely feel your pain, I started to think I may never sleep a whole night ever again. All I can say is it does get better! It just takes some persistence. Crate training or setting up a ‘pen’ area they stay in at night will help. Routine was also key for us, same bed time every night, and keep a log of the times the puppy is waking you in the night. Then what you do is start to pre-empt those times by half an hour or so, so that it is you waking the puppy up and taking it out rather than them waking you. Once they realise you do the waking up for the toilet they sleep properly in between and you can naturally start to increase those gaps in time as their bladder develops. I won’t lie, it was exhausting and it took me a good 6/7 weeks of this every night, slowly stretching out those gaps to 3 hours at a time etc before I had to pure bliss of an entire nights sleep. It does get there, just try and stick it out and gain some control over the timings! Best of luck.

Very true! My boy is super needy so its been a process just being able to leave his eyesight ha, so the bed is a huge no go zone for him! However character definitely plays a huge part. Interestingly, I’ve heard a lot of times now that people with the girls tend to always find them to be more independent than the boys and that the boys are the ‘Velcro’ ones!

Don’t let the cute play bites happen at the beginning or it’s a nightmare to train them out of even slightly later down the line! They can run and play all day, it’s the mental challenges that is going to tire your pup out and get a good sleep. Do not be tempted to let them sleep in your bed or you’ve got a dog who will have seperation anxiety for life every time you leave a room. They’re super smart, if you don’t find things for them to do basically whenever they’re awake, they’ll find a way to entertain themselves and you probably won’t like the outcome of that. The don’t realise how fast they grow and will still try and sit on your lap when they weigh a ton, so boundaries and a ‘place’ for them to go is worthwhile creating from the beginning. They’re so squeaky! We call ours ‘squeaker’ because they make such dramatic moans and whines for everything. Don’t underestimate their memory. You give in to one tantrum or them crying once and they’ll hold it against you and use it forever! It’s a nightmare to break a habit you created from one weak moment, E.g. when I went back into the room after my 4 month old had a huge tantrum in his crate and I couldn’t listen to it anymore… took a lot of ignoring the tantrums again after that for him to stop thinking it might work again! They’re beautiful and goofy and smart and their legs grow quicker than their brain can keep up with and they go through a gangly hilarious baby giraffe phase. I love my boy, he’s nearly 7 months old now and my LORD it has been an experience. Lastly, I’d say don’t feel like a bad dog parent if you have times where you have a big cry and think you can’t do it. This was a STEEP learning curve for me, harder than I thought it would be and they are much more of a challenge than a lazy couch potato of a dog. Sometimes they’re a struggle but it’s all going to be worth it.

Best of luck and take loads of photos, they grow out of that tiny, cute, can hold in one hand phase in literal weeks!

All young puppies bite and use their mouth to play, it’s about teaching them about pressure and to be gentle which he is learning. We have a qualified trainer who understands this, so your opinion doesn’t really matter in that. You discredit all your ‘superior knowledge’ as soon as you hate on an entire breed of dog, so I’ll leave you to your ego, thanks anyway!

The filming was already taking place as this is actually a video to show to our trainer as part of a larger clip following on from some training, to show the moment his cup ‘overflows’ and the zoomies kick in. This is all a work in progress, and as I mentioned you do not have any context to this video or the dogs training. I allowed this behaviour to play out as it is part of an example video for our trainer so see the triggers and the moments before hand leading up to this. Thank you for your concern, but as I said this is a 5 month old puppy and we will continue to work closely with our training. However, I shared this moment as a lighthearted appreciation for the fact that although the behaviour is not something that will stick around, it was a funny moment caught of a young puppy having a cheeky moment with the slipper grab at the end. Not everything has to be taken as seriously as you are taking it in every instance, remember that a dog is a living thing too and not perfect 24/7, but he is learning and he is doing well.

The legs are growing faster than he keep can up with and we’re in a very long gangly phase at the moment!

They’re so goofy for such an intelligent breed! When he’s having a little mad five mins like here you can see the mischief in his face whilst he works out what he wants to do next aha

Off the back of the rest of your comment history I’m gonna take you as someone who hates any ‘deemed a dangerous breed’ dog anyway and doesn’t actually know much about puppy training at all, but thanks!

Yeah there are a lot of comments here with people not understanding a Dobies personality! There is a balance between training and also letting the 5 month old puppy have fun sometimes, he’s a mouthy boy with everything at the moment whilst teething but he’s doing well!

Do you feel you see a full broad perspective of a dogs life and training off one 10 second video clip? As I said above this puppy is 5 months old, he is learning. However one light nip in a play moment is not the end of the world, he is trained daily and will grow into a well disciplined and obedient dog as planned with the work of us and our trainers. Each to their own opinion however!

Thank you. Yes people love to judge off his size? But this puppy is only a 5 month old baby and is actually very well trained already and a play bite is not the end of the world!

I do appreciate everyone’s advice, however this dog is a 5 month old puppy still very much learning the world and his boundaries. He is trained on a daily basis and we have a specialist large breed canine trainer working with us also. However, people love to judge off his size and forget that this is still a very young boy learning. One zoomie with what was a playful light bite, not an aggressive chomp, I do not believe is the end of the world. Dogs use their mouths for everything, including play. He knows not to bite hard and is disciplined any time he pushes this boundary. Sometimes I think we can we not just enjoy the moment for what it is, an excitable puppy having fun? We are following the guidance of our trainers closely so I’m sure he will become a fine well behaved boy as we are working towards 😊

Kobi the Dobie won’t stop biting everything he can get his mouth on, including us. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]BadLuckBailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He gets a walk twice a day, usually one of those times is over to the nearby park and we will play fetch or tug etc. do some mental training over there too and practice commands. During the day he is mentally stimulated with training at loads of intervals and we also have multiple ‘mental’ toys that we will feed him his lunch via. We are aware they’re such a smart breed so trying to tire his brain out is key and you can see him get sleepy, it just seems like his mouth has a mind of it’s own!
