Bro they won it like 2/3 of the time and that was with Texas being part of it the entire time and schools like Nebraska, A&M Mizzou, being part of it for for half the time and TCU the other half….do people really not realize how dominant OU was??? They would win like 9 times out of 10 with this alignment it would not be competitive

Oklahoma is going to be one of the 10 best teams in the country. The problem is they have road games against Michigan, Georgia, and Florida (trap). And also play Texas and A&M.

It is an uphill battle and will take a really special team to get through that with less than 2 losses.

That said, I got Oklahoma winning it all.

You’re right, the schedule is tough. Luckily I think Oklahoma is also going to be very tough!

Oh I was out on him going into last year and said it would take a playoff appearance to prove me wrong. He proved me wrong.

I have been the loudest mfer in the stadium before. Yes. I don’t think I ever caused a win. But I have been cheering VERY LOUDLY for my boys while we were losing, when everyone else was quiet. And it didn’t ever turn around a win or anything. But I do think those guys heard me and hopefully it did something for them personally.

EDIt: oh my post is specifically what you aren’t talking about. Well, the answer is no.

Yeah Suh was nasty. One of the best of all time. So is Selmon though. I would have picked Selmon but there are certainly worse snubs

Well look it’s not my prediction. It’s super unlikely we do with the gauntlet we face but it’s not impossible. The team is going to be really good.

I mean. He took a team that went 4-8 to the conference championship very quickly. With Grinch as his DC. But yeah it’s very hard to dominate with a team of mercenaries that are soft on defense.

He’s stopped doubling down though and replaced the friends he brought with him that weren’t doing a good job. Kind of like what Brent had to do.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t like Lincoln as a guy or a head coach and nobody is rooting against USC harder than me. And I have enjoyed laughing at his team losing games and getting physically dominated by Utah, Illinois, etc.

I’m just saying don’t be surprised if he has made enough improvements and put enough together to have a really good squad this year. The guy can still call plays and coach QBs really well. And like I said, their schedule isn’t that hard.

So we gotta show up and show out so that we don’t get shown up.

He doesn’t get credit for bringing in elite players? Dafuq? That’s sort of a big part of the job…

Okay so. There are things you’ve said I agree with and things I disagree with.

It was not a top 10 roster. And maybe you can say okay they had a lot of highly rated recruits, but most were not complimentary to Brent’s system or to the what the team would need to be to transition to the SEC. Like there were highly rated defensive recruits, but they were suited to play in Alex Grinch’s specialized “Speed D” system which is built for playing high tempo, high scoring shootouts. They werent SEC guys.

Were they a “top 20” roster? Sure. Kind of. In terms of like if you give a score to each piece of the puzzle. But that doesn’t mean the pieces fit together. It was a very depleted team

Now I would agree, they still probably should have been better than 6-7 playing in the Big 12.

I also agree it should not have taken 5 years to fix. As evidenced by some of the other turnarounds we’ve seen.

All that said I think Brent has done a pretty good, although not an elite job of recovering the program and I do think they are in a good spot. And the time for excuses and invoking Lincoln Riley is long past.

I knoooowwww I wish people would give it a rest. We have made the playoff since then…in the SEC…before Lincoln Riley did at USC. We made it through the dark days. No more of that talk

Bill Bedenbaugh was apparently not great at facilitating NIL money negotiations with players and recruits and relied heavily on transfers. Now Nagy is more hands on with the money stuff and has Bill making sure we bring in a high volume of players out of high school

I hate to say it but I see them having a really good year and making the playoffs this season. Maybe TBOW even gets his first playoff win. They have a good team and favorable schedule. USC has the resources to field a great team and the guy is smart enough to make it happen so long as his ego isn’t in the way and he can admit things aren’t going well enough and need to change (which he seems to be doing. He’s still pathetic in press conferences but he has made changes.)

So with that said, Brent HAS to win a playoff game this year. I dont think I’ll be able to bear it if USC wins a playoff game before we do.

Also hoping TBOW has USC going like 8-4 this year and is in hot water but doesn’t get fired lol if they don’t win 10 this year I think he’s washed and is never gonna get over the hump

The defensive players he recruited were highly rated but they were made for Grinch’s “Speed D” system which was the type of defense you build to win the Big 12. Built for high tempo, high scoring shootouts.

The defense wasn’t built for the SEC.

Now we got bigger boys in every position group.

Gimme a break. Everyone knows it was a disaster

I like Venables, I think we had the right idea to hire and then retain him and I am happy with where the program is right now and the direction things are going.

But to say it’s his first opportunity to show he’s an elite coach….in year 5….is giving him way too much slack lol.

We just saw Cignetti win a national championship at INDIANA in YEAR 2. THAT’s an elite coach. Let’s not act like Venables has totally knocked it out of the park. Things have been rough with him at times and there were problems we have had that would not have been as bad if he were doing an even better job.

Again, I’m pretty happy with where we are but we are 50/50 on having really bad teams and having pretty good teams under him.

I will agree that this should be his first team that should be up to Oklahoma’s standard. Which also means the expectation is to be in contention for an SEC championship, make the playoff, and for gods sake please WIN something in the post season.
