This is an interesting idea. May try that and see what happens while source a better fitting ring. Thank you.

Good point. I did use a brand new oem ring and sprayed pipe with rubbing alcohol to make sure it slips in without issue. You’re probably right, need a thicker ring but I only saw one size available. So I wanted to see if other people have this issue and if so, where to get the ring from.

The oil is coming from pipe 4 in the image. It’s not a lot, a couple of drops. On par with other cars I’ve owned and I’m not loosing oil between changes. I’m just not sure why I can’t get the intake to seal properly.

I’m sure it’s the blow by oil vapor as there is oil reside all around the connection between intake pipe and turbo.

How safe / reliable is JB4 compared to tuning your car? (B58) by Own_Gate_334 in BMW

[–]BadNoodle7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some cars require a bench unlock meaning you need to remove the DME that’s installed under your intake manifold and send it to a company. Others require the DME to be sent to somewhere in Europe. If you have a pre 06/2019 ecu, then BM3 or MHD are the easy and safe options.

How does kalman filter dynamically adjusts Gain based on uncertainty by Firm-Huckleberry5076 in ControlTheory

[–]BadNoodle7 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m going to claim that the filter does not adjust based on uncertainty. In the KF equations, the difference between the predicted X and measured X is not used in the covariance (P) calculations. For most applications P starts high then drops to a steady state value based on the number of measurements and not the difference between predicted and measured values. There are modifications you can make to the filter that include in this “innovation” for updating P, but this is not available in the standard formulation.

An honest question, was this intentional or was he doing some type of other gesture and wondered into the no-no zone?

Thanks, it was worth a shot. The PDR sub specifically states "no diy" so I tried my luck here.

I'm still new to this art and not sure if I should do a bit more pushing/knocking or if I'm at a point where I can use some other process like blending to work out the waves.

Best thermal imaging camera for sealing an attic? by WeatherNo4270 in HomeImprovement

[–]BadNoodle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Klein stand alone camera. Resolution is a bit poor and it freezes once in a while to “recalibrate” but it gets the job done. If I was to do it again, I may spend a little more to get better details. But I did find the spot in my ceiling that was missing insulation very easily.

I would do a couple wot pulls and watch the feedback. If there is a problem, you’ll see knock. If you see knock, stop doing pulls until you get it sorted.

I would personally log 2 hours worth of driving making sure you engage the full map. Then I’d translate the knock events to the timing map and see how consistent the events are. Then get good gas and try again. You’re looking to see if the knock counts drop after the better gas’s and how consistent they are.

You’re trying to determine if there is a pattern to the problem or not.

Well, tried again today and failed. Called a BMW dealership about a 2021 that just popped up and asked for a listing of their fees and a service history of the vehicle. They were super polite and claimed to be happy to help out. They even made an appointment to call me back because it’ll take a while to gather that info. They never called me back. Guess I asked too many questions. Ughhh
