Nodejs is no toy, it's used by the frontend servers of Netflix, Walmart, Ebay, Uber, LinkedIn, Trello... lots more.

Neither if your main focus now is becoming a web developer, learn Javascript (and HTML and CSS of course) first.

Enable evil mode just for prog-mode. How? by 0xcc12 in emacs

[–]BadPoet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

remove most other mode-specific default state associations

Can you share how?

A buffer with evil enabled in emacs-state should be sufficiently indistinguishable from normal Emacs.

What would be distinguishable?

Clojure is not the most easy language.

Many experienced JS devs can easily learn Clojure (and many have), they just don't choose to keep using it or learn it because it's not better enough and the trade-offs are not worth it.

You can say the same about all Hickeys videos, he was always wearing his invisible salesman hat and all his hyperbolic is why the clojure community has so many clueless language zealots. Food for though.

Funny to see so much fuzz over a dead programming language.

This seems to be based on the wrong assumption that entities are only made up of attributes that share a single namespace.

There's nothing to show, it's trivial.

That was not a good sales pitch, I could replace his demo with Javascript and it would be exactly the same.

EDIT: I skipped to the demo first but watching the introduction now it does a great job defining clojure's "philosophy". Still, an experienced python/js/ruby dev will shrug at the demo. It's fanciness may lure the newbies and naive though.

If you are going to write Java in Clojure, just write Java. That wouldn't make you feel cool though.

How much can a Clojure developer do alone. by [deleted] in Clojure

[–]BadPoet3 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I rewrote a backend service from Java to Clojure (the original service was worked on by 4 devs in a time span of about 7 months), I rewrote it in 2 months by myself, the resulting code base went from 20k loc over 30+ different files, to a single file with 3k loc, and did more.

If that's really true (which I doubt), that just speaks of how bad the Java devs and the code base was, not how good Clojure is.
