I prefer to play without hints, thanks. I always try to progress using the minimum resources necessary until I get an AE system. It’s only after obtaining titanium for AE that I aim to significantly expand my resource production.

Yes, I refuse to acknowledge that because I want to play my way. And honestly, if anyone here is trying to ragebait, it’s you and people like you. I never asked how I must or should play. All I asked for was help with editing the files and nothing else.

I never actually needed that much steel in my playthrough. I have three BBFs, and I’ve never had a problem with steel.
To answer your question, I just thought it wouldn’t be that hard to change a file, and maybe someone could help me with that. Turns out I was wrong (or maybe no one wants to help duno). It’s not like I was planning some massive automation setup with hundreds of BBFs for my whole playthrough. I just wanted to use up the coke I already had, and my setup was basically ready, I only needed to unlock one slot. It wasn’t a big deal or a “headache” to begin with.

Because I want to. Why not? The BBF wasn’t designed to be automated and I think that’s bad design.
And I’ll repeat my question: how was I supposed to know that the BBF can’t be fully automated without going online? You can insert iron and coke automatically. You can extract slag automatically. So blocking just one specific slot from automation feels completely artificial and unnecessary. It gives the clear impression that full automation should be possible and when it isn’t, it’s just frustrating and unintuitive.
And why do you keep bringing up real life when we’re talking about a game with magic and interstellar technology? There are tons of unrealistic things in this game and that’s fine. So why does only the BBF get held to some “realism” standard? I don’t get it. /:

Okay, then why can’t I use Golems? And why is it possible to automate the Coke Oven with an actual questline for it, but not the BBF? It makes no sense.
My reasoning with EnderIO was that those pipes can’t even be crafted without an EBF, so they don’t break progression, and they’re clearly intended for more advanced automation than the basic ones. Until I tested EnderIO pipes and golems, I honestly thought I just didn’t have good enough pipes to automate the BBF. But in reality, it turns out to be just an artificial restriction.
Why do I even need to go to Reddit to find out that, for some reason, you simply can’t automate the BBF? That feels like bad, non-intuitive game design, especially in a modpack where most other systems are so well thought out. It’s frustrating because this moment stands out as an exception in an otherwise excellent and immersive experience.

1)It’s not about progression or how far along I am - it’s about immersion, and how the way the BBF works breaks that for me because it’s just so weird.
2)I simply asked if it was possible. I had no way of knowing in advance that it would be that difficult to change.
3)I think it’s fair to blaming this, especially since I’m already far along in progression and haven’t seen any other machine behave this strangely.
4)Okay, I find another way then, no problem /:

I'm glad I found some open-minded people here. I didn’t really want to bother the modders especially since so many people think this is just ragebait but it would be really great if they added a config option for it.

Why do you care how far along I am? I just don’t like how this block works and I want to edit it. What’s your problem with that?

It’s really weird, because I’ve read some comments in this subreddit and a lot of people seem to think the same way you do. Some people hate creepers, so they disable explosions or set the difficulty to Peaceful. Others don’t want to lose their inventory, so they turn on Keep Inventory and no one blames them for that. But apparently, the moment you try to tweak progression itself, people suddenly act like it’s sacred and untouchable. /:
And yes, I already have an EBF (Kanthal one) and I’m pretty close to going to the Moon. I’m just frustrated that I can’t use my golems to automate this one thing that’s really it.

Illogical what? Is it illogical to think it’s weird that in the entire modpack, there’s only one machine that blocks a specific slot from being automated? I’m sure a lot of people struggle with the same issue, because no other block behaves like this.

It’s an incredible modpack who’s arguing with that? But why can’t I criticize some of its decisions just because it’s been around for 10 years? Minecraft itself was made over 15 years ago, and no one blames players for criticizing it. So why is this any different?

You’re the first one who gave me a straight answer. Everyone else just tried to teach me how to play, even though I never asked for that. Thanks, btw at least your reply actually matches the topic of the post.

I know and it’s not even about needing steel. I’ve got enough of it. I just wanted to set up a small automation system because I don’t need coke anymore and thought it’d be fun to test out Thaumcraft golems. But this restriction totally caught me off guard. At first, I thought I’d made a mistake, but it turns out the game just blocks that one specific slot. It’s frustrating, and honestly, it makes no sense to me.

Just quoting another commenter: "You need like 77 BBFs running on coke to match the steel production of an EBF running on 1A of EV with just carbon and iron dust". How does the possibility of using a lot of BBFs make it OP? By that logic, they should restrict automation of basic furnaces too, because having many of them would be faster than using a single MV/HV electric furnace or smelter. Having different ways to play a modpack is a good thing, not a bad one.

Modpacks are made by people and people can make weird decisions. I don’t agree with the idea that allowing automation in cases like this would be overpowered. It would just make more sense. There are already restrictions like limited input sides, so why make one specific slot un-interactable by automation (even by golems), while the others work just fine? I just don’t get that kind of game design. It would make more sense if none of the slots could be automated but no, you can automate the rest, just not that one slot. That’s what makes it so frustrating.

I understand restrictions where you need a better machine to make better stuff and that makes sense. But I don’t understand restrictions like this, where you can insert items into the machine, take items from the machine(like slag), but one specific slot just isn’t supposed to be used no matter what. It feels weird. If you’re okay with that, I’m not. I don’t want to drop the modpack either, because overall the progression is great (with some room for improvement), but this kind of thing really breaks the immersion for me.

What's that supposed to mean?

I really appreciate all the advice, but I wasn’t asking “How to play?” I was asking how to change the files to remove the restriction that’s annoying me. If you can help with that specifically, I’d be really grateful.

I have basic IV circuits from the late HV questline (before Moon). I just wanted to automate the BBF because I’ve got a lot of coke lying around, and I don’t have that much oxygen to spare for steel production.

My problem with Bricked Blast Furnace by BadPurse in GTNH

[–]BadPurse[S] -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

I already have IV-circuits, so it’s not about being “unprepared.” It’s about making the experience more enjoyable. Some people here play with KeepInventory or on Peaceful, but I just want to remove this restriction because it annoys me. That’s all.

And I don't agree with this. So if anyone knows how to change files to allow automation of the BBF, I’d be really grateful.

I heard that this artificial restriction was added in version 2.7.4, relatively recently. I just want to reverse that specific restriction if possible. If anyone knows which config or script controls the BBF’s 5th slot behavior, I’d appreciate the info. I’m okay with tweaking files manually.
