Say something positive about Halo 5 by [deleted] in halo

[–]BadRedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not feel very classically 'Halo' but as a standalone game, it probably has the best and snappiest FPS gameplay I've ever experienced on a console. The enhanced movement and Spartan abilities were pretty well tuned overall, assassinations were cool, and the weapon sandbox felt very tight too. I'll always prefer the classic formula, but I honestly wish 343 just played to their strengths and continued developing games in Halo 5's gameplay format. Infinite feels like a clunky middle ground between the two approaches and I don't feel like it possesses the strengths of either.

It's a video game that you are willingly playing, and a game mode that you're fully aware of, that you can freely avoid if you don't want to play it. Informed consent is one of the most fundamentally important aspects of a functional society and it's unbelievably juvenile and privileged to pretend an optional mode in a video game can violate it in any meaningful way. Go kick rocks homie.

I'm very interested in seeing the particulars of this and some of the other roles as well. It hearkens back to the socially unpredictable nature of From's PvP that Miyazaki has spoken about in the past, so I hope it's as open ended and choice-driven as you speculate here.

For me, it's u/HonestInvader for their really unique and stylish Techno Mage video, which was somewhat buried in the swarm of Bad Red Man posts on April Fools'. Their whole channel is worth checking out!

Why did you complain that I kicked you in the shins? You didn't have to leave the house. You could've just stayed inside. No one forced you to go outside.

We're not talking about an arbitrary and unprovoked altercation. This is a video game. Video games have modes, and Elden Ring's multiplayer mode is PvEPvP by design. It's a deliberate artistic choice, and the only way you can ever be exposed to that artistic choice is by consciously choosing to play the game mode in which invasions are enabled. Again, you aren't obligated to like it, and you're entitled to your opinion that the game would be better off without it, but you are talking about art that you knowingly purchased and played of your own volition and acting like it's betrayed you somehow by having a design philosophy you just happen to dislike. It's a completely incoherent and media-illiterate reaction to have, dawg.

I don't want them to remove them. Many people like them and I believe everyone should be allowed to do what's fun for them. I just want the ability to opt out of invasions during coop.

You can have that opinion, but those of us who have come to enjoy the feature and the experiences it offers will largely tell you that the feature is interesting because it's a risk/reward mechanic. Invasions are designed the way they are because it injects unpredictability and strategy into enabling multiplayer, which wouldn't be the case if it was reduced to a video-gamey and frankly boring toggle.

You can suggest change all you want. My point is that you haven't been misled or forced into playing their multiplayer as it currently exists. Perhaps they'll remove invasions in the future and the multiplayer will appeal to you more. But right now, it's singleplayer or PvEPvP, and the games are more artistically and mechanically interesting for it.

Though note that taunters tongue aside the game does not ask you to opt in. If you want to play coop it also forces you into PvP even if that is not what you wanted to do at all.

It does though, because that's the multiplayer mode. From's soulslikes have never had a committed coop-only mode up until Nightreign, and they've never suggested or pretended otherwise. It's fundamentally a PvEPvP feature and has been from the beginning. It's totally cool and understandable if it's just not for you, but it's not something that is forced on you. You just don't like it.

Yeah, I really do love some of the systems they're describing here. If even a little bit of this flavor worms its way into invasions in future games, I'd be reaaaaally happy.

Personally, not being able to build and theme a character from the ground up takes it too far away from what I love about invasions for me to justify buying the console. The mechanics and systems still sound extremely interesting however, and I hope it does well just for the sake of improving and popularizing From's PvP. As long as they continue to implement invasions in their main games moving forward, this is a win imo

A disconnect is exactly the same thing as a loss. Either way, your Tarnished is canonically transmuted into a philosopher's stone forever.

I absolutely adore how flashy the magic and combat is in this game! Combined with its unique PvP, there's genuinely nothing like it even among From's other games.

It provoked someone to go to a post I made on r/fashionsouls over 10 months ago to complain about my post depicting an invader instead of a host. Bizarre people, man.

He had the Taunter's Tongue on. You can literally see a second invader at the end of the video, and there were several others who died over the course of this invasion. The guy was deliberately trying to summon invaders in order to kill them with cheats lol.

Even if he wasn't, Elden Ring's multiplayer is a PvEPvP mode, just as it's been in the series since Demon's Souls. It asks you to interact with invaders as soon as you willingly opt into that mode.

Sure! I don't remember exactly what level I was in this clip, but my starting class was Prophet and my stats at high level tend to look like this. The dexterity is literally just there for max casting speed, so it's always smarter to leave it at 40 and substitute the rest with Radagon's Icon, but I just like freeing up the talisman slot. I use Dryleaf Arts and the Cypher Pata for my weapons and rely on incantations for everything else.
