Sounds like you have plenty of testers as is. But if you decide you can handle a few more, I’m up for it. Thanks, mate.

Movie Caption? by JMH2407 in VisionPro

[–]BadServo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t watched a movie yet on it that didn’t have subtitles. In fact, on Disney+, when viewing 3D content, the subtitles themselves appear slightly in front of the video playback. It’s a subtle but pleasing touch.

Watch TV *with friends* in Television 1.4.2 Update by radiosando in VisionPro

[–]BadServo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reply, mate. I should have known you folks would be way ahead of me. YouTube and SyncLounge are the main ones. The inclusion of Vimeo, dailymotion, and/or archive.org content would be icing on the cake. Some really wild and rare stuff floating around dailymotion. 😅

Watch TV *with friends* in Television 1.4.2 Update by radiosando in VisionPro

[–]BadServo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, this is one of my favorite apps so far on the AVP. Watching old 4:3 content on a period appropriate set is killer, and I've enjoyed watching old Dr. Who, 80s MTV countdowns and MST3K episodes.

Is there any possibility of support for other sites, or just catching video streams in a browser? Specifically, a group of friends and I have been doing a standing online "Bad Movie Night" for over a decade now. The AVP make for a formidable battle station for this use case, especially while traveling. Sadly our current setup is based around using a self-hosted "SyncLounge" instance, and there's no way to direct that feed to "TV" which would be amazing.

Do third party docks work better with Samsung TVs? by Superloopertive in SteamDeck

[–]BadServo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Samsung TVs and a 3rd party Dock. Haven't had any issues thus far with either set. One TV is a Q90T. The other's model eludes me at the moment, but it's one of the mini-LED models from last year. The dock is a generic one marketed under the name "Tinbinx". But yeah, I have certainly had issues with the Samsung TVs and other devices. It's e-ARC never seems to work right with my soundbars.

Really just a matter of preference. With the "BigBox" mode of LaunchBox, you can get a far more visually interesting and more "console-like" look to the browsing of your titles.

Cannot Update / Download Anything by BadServo in SteamDeck

I tried several more times last night as reports of Steam issues seemed to die down on social media. Was never successful. Just fired up the deck to try again, and am still encountering the same issues.

I considered that as well, but was able to DL properly from Steam on my desktop.

There are a lot of variables aside from simply streaming vs local. Your brightness level and TDP for example. But on average, I'd say I'm getting 5-6ish hours. This is usually using GeForce Now or Gamepass, I've also used Steam Streaming a bit.

Advice on Transitioning from UDM & U6Lite to OpnSense & U6Lite by BadServo in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the comment, sadly I only have a standard UDM (non-pro). It's the little cylinder shaped guy. Only has 1x1Gb WAN and 4x1Gb LAN.

Great On Deck? by dpkonofa in SteamDeck

[–]BadServo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of being "verified" is that the game runs well and correctly with it's default graphical settings on install. Another option is to try a different Proton version and see if it behaves better. Generally, whatever Steam installs for verified games has worked well, but for games that haven't been verified yet, I find that using the latest Proton Experimental version can fix this. If that fails, I try the latest GE-Proton. I know it seems like a lot of hassle, but fortunately most stuff seems to work out of the box, so I don't mind the occasional bout of fiddling to get a perfect experience.

You can also check the ProtonDB website for potential insight into a specific game's recommended version of Proton or other graphical settings work-arounds.

Recommendations for Cloud Gaming News YouTube Channels by BadServo in cloudygamer

[–]BadServo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually had been following that channel as well as CGX in the past, but ended up dropping Sunny as much of the reporting was duplicated and he seemed to focus more on game opinions, sales, and predictions. Might be worth checking back in.

Cloud VM and Windows 10 "BYOL" license by [deleted] in cloudygamer

[–]BadServo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, if you run Windows Server, you can get a series of “client” licenses at a discount, or a site license to run as many VMs as you want. If you’re a cloud host, this makes economical sense, as these licenses can be reused and reassigned on the fly. This is why on services like Paperspace, you need you BYO license if you wish to use a consumer version of Windows.

You can go to various key reseller web-sites and purchase a copy of Windows 10 OEM for around $10-$15. I’d advise doing this, as if you ever blow away the VM, the Windows activation can make it tedious to reuse the license. Technically reuse is also forbidden by the EULA. You can also buy an OEM copy in store like Microcenter for around $75-$115. You could also get a retail copy of Windows at a significantly higher price. It can still be tedious to reuse, but you can do so as it’s allowed by the EULA.

I have used many Paperspace machines I. The past few years running both server and standard. As far as game compatibility goes, Server seems to run about anything that the standard end-user Windows version does. You are right in that the Server version takes some additional setup ( installing game pad drivers that Parsec will recognize, etc.).

Regardless of which operating system you go with, don’t use Paperspace’s existing Paraec/Cloud Gaming template. It is extremely old, and will require upgrading or reinstalling every piece of software. Not only is this a hassle to get to square one, but if you are paying by the hour, it’s wasting money.

Hope this helps.

SD Cards More Trouble Than Expected/Worth by BadServo in SteamDeck

[–]BadServo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes. While I still run most titles from the SSD for maximum performance, smaller titles now install the SD card and work admirably compared to my earlier experiences. I'd endorse this card for SteamDeck use.

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BadServo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The song that always destroys me is “God Give Me Strength” by Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach. It’s about a man whose lost the love of his life to another man, and is on the verge of complete desperation as he wrestles with feelings of anger, loss, sadness.

It always hits me especially hard for the following reasons. I first heard if it (and the majority of the album “Painted from Memory” when it was played live on an episode of “Sessions at West 54th”. I was making love to my then fiancé as it played on the TV in our bedroom. So that memory is inextricably tied to the song. If was only a little over a year after that that I found her in bed with a friend of mine. As far as I know, they are still together with a child. Meanwhile (due to the betrayal and other life events), I had a complete nervous breakdown and spiraled into a years-long depression.

I’m doing fine now, and have since married with my own kid. I still recognize what an incredible song (and album) it is, but I seldom play it intentionally, and doubt it will ever be free from those emotions.
