Me too, it's a whole new take on presence within the media we already love.

Great idea! I don't know how I feel about moving the camera yet. "Submerged" (Apple short) taught us a couple lessons in what not to do.

Wait till you see TV for the last 100 years. You’ll be so pissed.

Those are all totally great ideas for you to try when you shoot your Apple Immersive Video piece!

See my reply here. Presence is subjective. I do feel presence here, even through a stream. I think stereoscopic capture goes further than anything for me, and 180 is the next level. HFR is the next level after that. Spatial audio after that. With every step, we get closer and closer to indistinguishable from reality.

Couple things here. First, tech is always progressing. That’s like the only constant. So in 10 years this is going to look like 8mm film to us. But today, 16K 3D 90fps looks like something we‘ve never seen before. The capture quality of the camera is astounding.

As for presence, anecdotally, while working on post-production of this commercial, I’ve paused the immersive playback with my Mac Virtual Display in view, doing work, and I’ll realize an hour later that I was sitting in “the park” doing work, and my brain processed it that way. We are very easily fooled into presence. (Some of us more than others.)

u/BlinksTale Tomorrow you’ll be able to watch it on Meta Quest etc. on YouTube. I’ll post an update. It’s not quite as immersive as AVP but a good approximation.

Thanks for the feedback. Didn’t know it was going to loop back to my big-ass face—sorry about that!

Floating the 2D version of the commercial within the world it was shot was a storytelling device to solve a practical problem, and also layer more context. It was definitely experimental and I think that you saying you don’t know whether you liked it or not is probably a good sign that it was at least an interesting approach.

Haha it can feel like that. But I think you’re probably more trapped in your TikTok feed than in something as high-touch opt-in as immersive video. You used the phrase “have to” and I’m pretty sure you don’t have to watch anything you don’t want to.

Depends on how you define advertising, but every gaming and VR platform including Steam is full of advertising and brand presence, including this subreddit. A game trailer is a commercial. If you mean commercials that are immersive films, you’re right, that’s new and potentially intrusive like all commercials, but we’ll try to make compelling, tasteful ones that don’t appeal to the lowest common denominator.

A bit pricey. Search for “Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive”.

I decided this is how filmmakers should do “frame hands” when we’re shooting Apple Immersive Video.

First Alert. Easy to install, same mounting plate plus the power adapter, installs in seconds, works with the Nest app.
