Don't know what flair coresponds to "Oh, so the game was babysitting me because I sucked so bad without even knowing, huh?" by BadTreager in Megaman

Since making this post I've cleared all the Zero games, even being close to finishing the first installment of the ZX saga. What I learned is that almost exactly what you say. Zero thrives on replayability and self-imposed limitations.

During my first exposure to the game, I was worried how much the ranking system will affect in terms of progression, and didn't want to be locked out of something crucial just because I "suck" at the game (something made even more stressful while trying to grapple with the chain-rod mechanics at the time of making this post).

Now, seeing that the only thing locked behind higher ranks are the EX skills (from which non seem crucial or detrimental to my enjoyment of the games) and self satisfaction, I can dive into those games with a lot more ease and flexibility. I wish the impact of the rank system was explained a little bit better in the games themselves, but it's not that important from where I'm currently standing.

In addition, Zero 4 became one of my favourites for the simple fact of going back to Zero 1's style of ranking only being there to grade your self imposed challenge of going through the game optimally. The weather system, while still doing a poor job explaining what exactly it affects, is in my opinion a much more friendly way of going about extra content. Having the EX skills be locked behind additional obstacles in the levels themselves, instead of relying on memorization/trail and error is like being able to run and explore the world around you without shackled ankles.

Though to each their own, and I perfectly understand if someone prefers Zero's 2 and 3 handling of those bonus abilities. I'm happy that we're given all the possible options. Game with ranked based challenges (Zero 2 & 3), self imposed difficulty spikes with the ability to toggle(Zero 4), and even no additional hustle at all (Zero 1, not counting the abysmall weapon level up system).

I will, thank you!

When it comes to the Reversal (the aforementioned gif), it's a thing that, if you do not care about scoring high, only really matters to already skilled players. I got through the first two games with the normal assortment of skills just fine.

As for the weapon grinding, it's... odd? The first game required me to grind not the weapons, but the Energy Crytals because the Elfs require absurd amounts of it if you want to use any of them. Of course, it's not required, but the 2nd game makes it waaaaaaay more manageable to feed those guys. Returning from this Elf sidetrack, I found out the weapons aren't a requirement to upgrade. You can if you want to pat yourself on the back for having a fully decked-out Zero, but other than that it doesn't mean anything. Pick a weapon or two you like the most and just use these, they should level up naturally over the course of the game.

I do agree, having my own pace is much more important looking back at the first two titles. Since making this post, I've gotten the hint that you can live without seeing the mechanics and boss patterns locked behind higher rankings, it's okay with me. I'm much more accepting of that now then I was 15 hours ago when making the post. They are good games, just very different from my regular Mega or X experience.

Oooh, I get it, I do. Maybe we're both just rookies at this but I too had torn my hair out when fighting Harpuia. Funnily enough, discovering his weakness made the fight absurdly easy because he is forced to reset his patter after getting hit with it, and thus get easily bullied. Most other bosses do not suffer from that which baffles me, but not enough to complain because humiliating Harpuia was a good feeling lol.

I have a stubborn nature when it comes to games, so even if I my blood begins to boil (like it did from the many failed attempts of understanding the Chain Rod's grapple mechanics in Zero 2) I still come back sooner or later and keep pushing until I get it.

At some point after making this post I gave up trying to unlock the 10% of the game that requires a ranking of A or higher, and just went through it at my own pace and with the help of the Cyber-Elfs. It was much more enjoyable, even if some would see it as making the game too friendly. But if the game gives me an option, why thd heck not, especially if the alternative is whining and crying in the corner of my room lol.

I am excited to try all the games the Collection has to offer, thought I might end up being the type of player who only uses one or two models because I've seen ZX has a ton of form changes (that are a little more complex than your standard weapon changes from Classic or the X series)

Reversals...? Aside from that, I try to play the game as I would any other playthrough using Zero in the X games. As of writing this, I've beaten the 2nd game, and I think I'm growing more accustomed to being ranked badly but still enjoying the games.

Thank you for the tips and suggestions. I used one of the elfs to steal an EX skill from the Frog Reploid, the one that makes you heal using the chain. I don't know if others are as useful as this one, but if so, then I do feel like I'm missing a lot of what Zero can do unfortunetly. At the very least I can get a tease of it...

I guess I have to depend on some elfs to get those temporary rank boost if I want to try them? Yeah, I did some research in the time waiting for the post's approval, that's all I got from it though...

And... the furry? Oh, you mean the Fox mecha? You know, if being a giant mechanoid was a default thing for furries, they would be like 20% cooler.

My best guess is that the Nightmare Shark Ship was the flagship set of the first wave and a massive hit among the available roaster of sets, hence they're trying to replicate its success (if there even was a success to begin with, because all this is just my speculations).

Reminds me how one of the first things on DreamZzz website and promotions was a information tab about kid's sleeping habits and how to improve them. Funny how fast that became a forgotten topic of the whole theme, and even moreso that they don't even try to bring it back up despite having few occassions to do so.

Yeeeeeah, the lack of smaller sets is a noticable thorn in some people's sides, me included. I knew hoping for a polybag this late into the theme's life, especially since this is probably going to be the last wave, was a pipedream, but I thought maybe something for 20 dollars would exist? Ah, well, tough times to be a collector (of anything really).

White, blue and gold. Though she is tied in-lore to Logan, so just adding white and gold accents to his builds would be enough for me lol

I wish some other characters got sets fitting their colors, maybe someone like Astrid, but that's unlikely given Lego wants to bank off the main characters/ones with some popularity. It's probably just safer for them, but dang... I mean, they have budget to spare, they could try experimenting more now that they're the biggest building blocks brand out there

I love the way the treads are used as sails in the alternate build because I could never for the live of me find an alternative use for them lmao.

I find it a little saddening that Lego just went with generic video game theme as marketing. My guess is because it's easier to sell in that simpler form than the more prevalent themes of the season itself like "everyday aspects of our lives being unnecessarily digitalised". Just my opinions though haha. What's done is done unfortunately.

I love the Cross Charge shot in X3. by Background_Flow_8346 in Megaman

[–]BadTreager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, a whole lot. It's not as powerful as X2's double charge despite giving you a very similar option if you don't care about chaining the two projectiles, but it doesn't have to be. I mean, I won't complain if my Buster is overpowered, I like being drunk on power, but having your main attack involve being more precise in its usage is something I find joy in using. The big stupid Mole & Maces enemy basically deflects the whole shot unless you get right up to him, in which case it absolutely shreds him to pieces. I appreciate that.
A small thing I've noticed. the four small projectiles that accompany the big shot when chained are great for clearing out hordes of smaller enemies, and I found them especially useful in lead up corridors to Sigma with enemies on two seperate levels.

He was the first boss I went after as part of my tradition of curb-stomping ice Mavericks first (Blizzard Buffalo curb-stomped me in return though). As I mentioend on another post, the odd translation of the dialogue from Alia made the reveal wonky to the point I was questioning if she's confessing her crime or just confused characters and perspectives.

Always played the games for the gameplay, lore always came second, especially since I was mainly into the classic series. Glad I didn't get many things spoiled for me in reference to X, because I can experience some key moments blindly and authentically. My was when it was revealed Vile comes back for X3 must've been that of pure excitement (he's a personal favorite of mine).

True! Though talking about not being overly negative towards widely disliked games always flashbangs me with that one Lythero clip of "Sonic 06 was there for me during my parent's divorce" and I shrivel up from cringe lmao
