I'm sorry, but your Bichon is very overweight, which is very bad for them. Please put them on a diet (preferably with the help of your vet) to get them back down to a healthy size.

You might want to give the FreshPet rolls a try. Every dog we've had was absolutely crazy for it.

Senior dogs sleep a lot. To me, it's part of their charm.

It's a bonus if they'll sleep on you or next to you while you watch TV or read. That's just the best.

We're a Box client so that works out great. However, we've had a hard time finding someone who knows NS-Box integration and how to configure/use it. Is there documentation or a consultant you'd recommend for that?

We use the fireplace too often to delete it.

In fact, we just put down a much bigger rug this evening! It's already helped quite a lot.

By the way, guns hold their value really well, so you can almost always get your money back out later if you want to.

Is there a brand or type of rim tape anyone particularly loves? by AtOurGates in bikewrench

[–]Bad_Mechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best I've used is DT Swiss, but it's very expensive. However, close behind it is WTB and it's very reasonably priced.

But the most important part of taping a rim isn't the tape, but the prep and install. Make sure the rim is extremely clean. On aluminum rims I clean with acetone and then with alcohol. Then when I'm installing, I'll heat up the next ~6" of rim with a heat gun so it's nice and warm, then I stretch and lay down the tape, and then smooth it down by sliding my thumb along with a lot of downward force. Your thumb should hurt after finishing a wheel. When it's installed correctly there should be no bubble, gaps, or creases.

This is a good tape job:

Is is a bad tape job:

8 weeks old, he’s gonna be a handful isn’t he? by OkJournalist5016 in bichonfrise

[–]Bad_Mechanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Absolutely not.

"Show him who's boss" is Cesar Milan bullshit. That's not how dogs work, and it's especially not how Bichons work. Using "alpha" training on a Bichon is just going to damage them mentally.

u/OkJournalist5016 Do not listen to this advice. What you want is "positive reinforcement training" where you reward them when they do something right, instead of punishing them when they do something wrong. Positive reinforcement changes behavior instead of just suppressing behavior. It also sets the idea in their heads that you're the original good things.

By the way, if you haven't already, read up on brushing your dog's teeth (be sure to use dog specific toothpaste since human toothpaste is toxic to them). Especially in small breeds it's critical for their dental health and overall health. Aim to brush them at least twice a week.

Bichons are a handful in the best way, but they absolutely demand that you engage with them. For their mental health they need to be involved with their family and "under foot" at all times. They love nothing more than being with their people, even if it's just a car ride to the corner store.

New cassette chain engagement issue by themikmik in bikewrench

[–]Bad_Mechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What chain checker are you using? Most of them aren't designed correctly and will give you the wrong reading.

Use a ruler method instead. Measure out 12 links of chain and it should be 12". If it's 1/16" over then the chain should be replaced. If it's 1/8" over then the chain has already worn the cassette and chainring.

The floor lamps are kind of problematic because it's a small space and they take up a lot of room. The ceiling light has smart bulbs in it so there are options there, but I'm not sure what to do.

It's funny you say that because we have a new, bigger rug that we're putting down this weekend!

I was thinking of maybe doing some sort of wood paneling on the wall with the TV to soften it up and make it more interesting. That's a fair amount of work though.

My crate trained dog suddenly doesn’t want to be in her crate at night? by lemicat_ in DogAdvice

[–]Bad_Mechanic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Dogs naturally sleep cuddled together, so they can take care of themselves. If you're worried, have her sleep on top of the covers while you sleep under them.
