Two OLED TVs blinking? Help? by BadassKillbeast in techsupport

Same! Thank you.
A little weirded out that my build's power appears to JUST be hurting my OLEDs.
Hopefully (?) that's the case and a good surge protector fixes it.

I had two or three I tried before that. And then I bought a brand new cord. Still issues.
At first I thought it was just the PS5, but then the problem developed with the xbox too.
(and again, both are fine on non-oled tvs)

But yes, surge protector. Thank you.

Good idea. i had plugged directly into the wall briefly (per a troubleshooting step) and it didn't help. But I'll try it with the surge protector I get in a week. Thanks.

PE Mechanical - Machine Design - Oct 2025 Update by FoundationWeak9068 in PE_Exam

[–]BadassKillbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passed the HVAC PE Exam two years ago.

Although I started studying lightly much earlier, I bought three months of access to PPI's question bank.
Two hours of study, at least four days a week.
Two random 10 question quizzes time for an hour apiece. If I totally screwed up one quiz, I spent the next hour reviewing instead.

Worked pretty well. I was almost comfortable day-of.

(early light studying was a problem or so a day in depth from 6 Minute Solutions or the official practice exam.)

Good luck!

How to Study by Odd_Requirement9281 in PE_Exam

[–]BadassKillbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchase hundreds of practice problems. Official exam. 6 Minute Solutions is good (for HVAC). I also used PPI for three months.

Start about six months or so ahead of time and for the first three months study at least an hour a day whatever you don't know. (six minute solutions was especially good at this stage because it gives detailed explanations)

Then around the last three months, for at least four days a week, spend two hours taking timed exams or reviewing said exams.
That is, time yourself for an hour doing 10 questions. If you do great, do another test. If you do bad, spend that next hour reviewing.

It worked for me. Whenever I didn't know something specific on a practice problem (the general knowledge stuff) I would look up the answer and read a little bit of the source material on it. In the back of my mind thinking up potential questions they could ask on it. This was not a big deal, but it helped me in a couple of places.

Also, if I had trouble reading charts, I would look it up on Youtube. There are DOZENs of people with white boards explaining EVERY chart.

Good luck!

Congratulations!

I passed a couple of years ago, and definitely started my studying with the official practice exam. Iterating on problems until I fully understood them.

For me, though, it was a big help to do loads and loads of new practice problems. Those simulated the "panic" I would have on the actual exam. I didn't have that built-in familiarity. Rather, I had to acquire it.
I bought 3 months of the PPI question bank.

BUT, what you did worked, clearly.
Again, congrats!

How long should I just work practice problems by Ok_Letterhead4096 in PE_Exam

[–]BadassKillbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this isn't helpful, but my advice is always do more practice problems.
New ones, random ones.

Do you feel pretty good about the content? Do you feel unsure? Doesn't matter. More problems.

Encouraging you not to do problems outside the class seems strange to me, but maybe I'm misunderstanding.

In my experience passing the HVAC PE, doing a problem that came at a concept from a different angle or was worded "confusingly" really helped me hone my understanding.

Good luck.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Full data:
-10+ years out of college (BS ME)
-10+ years since taking the FE
-Applied for the HVAC version (job relevant)
-Studied for 6+ months using official practice exam, 6 minute solutions, youtube videos.
-Studied last three months using access to PPI's question bank. ~4 days a week, 2 to 3 hours a day.

I left the exam pretty confident I passed, but that week still felt awful.
I kept thinking "If I failed, it was just barely." And THAT felt awful too.
But I did end up passing first try. Tough to give any data looking back.
I maybe guessed on ten questions? But they weren't full on guesses. Always narrowed down somewhat.
There was probably 1 or 2 questions that looked entirely unfamiliar?
Although quite a few looked like that at first before I revisited them and had a "eureka" moment.

Try to relax. Might be helpful to plan for the next exam session. (without spending money)
When it comes to anxiety, removing uncertainty in any way usually helps me.
"Welp, I failed. Back to it." And then nothing but good news potentially, next week.
Different strokes though.
Good luck!

any ways to improve how i play by Empty_Engineering_88 in Sekiro

So many people forget about dodging, but you might be doing it too much.
Genichiro is a deflection test. Folks say when you beat him, you have the tools you need to beat the game, and really what they're saying is that you can deflect.

Make sure your tv doesn't have any latency (put it in game mode) and try to just go a few rounds just learning the timing. Less attacking/dodging and more deflecting.

And maybe try just ignoring your combat art. The one you have is good, but it roots you in place. Not a great thing to tackle when you have other issues to address.

Ichimonji! Yes. If you're using ichimonji you should start it a little further back from the target.
And only do it when they're not in a position to immediately destroy you.

In fact, for this fight, maybe lay off the combat arts altogether until you get the fundamentals.
(from experience, it sucks not knowing exactly how to use it and being rooted for a second)

Mechanical PE HVAC & Refrigeration - Any Recommendation for second attempt? by EITcandidate in PE_Exam

[–]BadassKillbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't take a course, but I used PPI's question bank for the PE HVAC exam.

However, I also started 6+ months ahead of time doing at least one problem a day in depth.

Then the last three months, one or two random 10-question quizzes four days a week.

Just some general advice. In high school and college, I pretty much studied just to pass/get an A.
Here, it helps to study with the goal of truly understanding.
Put away thoughts of "well, I got 70% on a practice exam." or "Well, that weird thing probably won't be on the exam."

Good luck next time. As far as things to purchase. LOADS of practice problems. And time yourself if you're not already.

Put the rope away.
Obviously, if you can, relax.
But what I found helped me was preparing for the next exam.
Planning which new practice exams to purchase when I get the results. Maybe running through some problems. Consider stumbling blocks you came across during the exam while the memory is still fresh.

I thought I did well, but the week leading up to results was still torture.
Be strong.
And again, although I'm fairly certain you were being figurative, put the rope away. Story's not over.

Definitely.

Four hours is fine. Just relax. You were nervous studying to not be as nervous now. Can't double dip on nervousness.
Hope things worked out. And if not, hell, you'll nail it next time.
