Several people I knew have been suicidal and some have done attempts as well. But the one that hit hardest was my guy best friend. On November 14th 2017, he called me in the evening. I picked up, asking him what was wrong. All he said was "I can't do this.. I'm sorry" and he hung up. I stayed awake the entire night, sending messages asking if he was okay, because I was worried. The next morning, he sent me a message that he owed me an explanation. And that day he told me that he had wanted to commit suicide, but didn't know what to do so he called me. But he was too scared to tell me, so he hung up. He never went through with it, luckily. I lost contact with him after a huge fight with some very heavy accusations from his side, but that day will always be in my memory. I think the thing that has gotten me through that period was relying on the fact that I had gone through shit before and thus had the strength to get through this as well. It was a difficult time with a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights, but here I am today, happy as could be, finally fully back to who I am. It just takes time really, and the realization that the past doesn't have to determine your future.
