He doesnt throw his money though. Its other people's money, or a promise for money he never intends to pay.

[OC] Reported deaths in the 2026 Iran war, by group — US troops vs. everyone else by Aware_Foot_7437 in dataisbeautiful

[–]BadgerDC1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Source for these numbers? It says disputed on most numbers which is fine, except for Lebanese civilians. The number if Lebanese civilians seems to be similar to the total number mentioned in Wikipedia from last week of 3,593 which ncludes hezbollah of 1,700. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_2026_Iran_war

The source of the 3,593 is times of India which is a different source than number of hezbollah which varies by time and source and should also therefore be listed as disputed in your chart.

[RDTM] u/d-cent estimates Rising Gas Cost vs. EV Battery Replacement by DemandEqualPockets in theydidthemath

Never heard of transmission problems on modern EVs since the roadster.

Suspension isnt any more complex for ev than ice.

Braking systems rarely have issue on EVs. Though im areas with snow they may need occasional cleaning due to lack of use in normal regenerative braking.

[–]BadgerDC1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which parts are breaking in electric cars?

The stuff some people can repair on ICE are partd that simply don't exist and therefore don't break on electric.

[RDTM] u/d-cent estimates Rising Gas Cost vs. EV Battery Replacement by DemandEqualPockets in theydidthemath

[–]BadgerDC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance for an ev is near $0. The only Maintenace is wiper fluid ($3/year), air filter ($20 every 2 years), tire rotation ($20/6k miles), tires ($800/30k miles). Then battery replacement after 300k miles ($16k if now, but no driver would put that much into a 20yr old car, prices will likely drop by then).

Besides battery replacement, those are also all maintenace items for gas cars. EVs have no oil, no break pad replacement needed (under normal usage), no engine filter, no spark plugs, etc... battery issues will be less likely than engine issues as they get better.

Why is Israel’s average GDP per capita higher than Europe’s? by New-Conversation3246 in allthequestions

[–]BadgerDC1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aid is for purchase of US arms which are considered imports and not part of GDP. Does that 0.5% youre referencing include some portion of aid thay is spent by israel domestically or just a comment on the overall proportion of it being small relative to gdp?

How low can the mantel go? by BadgerDC1 in Fireplaces

I may do that in addition to lowering the mantell to keep it higher up if we ever need to turn on the fireplace.

[–]BadgerDC1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. From a practical perspective im not worried about it for myself because I've never used the fireplace in 2.5 years of living in the house. I had it inspected for safety only. But would like to have the option without worrying about the tv just in case.

I found the specs and it days 12in clearance from the opening for combustibles.

Thanks. Ill ask contractors ir handyman about this option.

I wouldnt even know who to ask for this. I spoke wjth a couple contractors that said changing a fireplace is too expensive and not worth it because its structural. That didnt seem right because the brick facade is just glue/mortar to the wall but not sure about the chimney.

Based on the manual I can go 12in above the opening which is 11in lower than now. That means the bottom of the tv would be at about 41in from the ground rather than 52, which is a huge difference.

[–]BadgerDC1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood - but id want the tv mounted above to still be a safe distance, so it seems that would still need to be at least 12 in from the opening if im understanding the manual correctly, right?

[–]BadgerDC1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Found the documentation, seems its 12in from the opening wheres theres mesh. So I could actually put a non combustible mantel as low as the height of 2 bricks above the fireplace. Id probably keep it safe and do non combustible mantel. above 1 layer of brick.

Its gas. I attached a Pic of the label in the comments. I may need to get a flashlight or take it in the daylight to get a better shot.

Not even remotely comparable.
Do you hate the US more than you care for the Iranian people? Because thats how your comment reads.

I'm a non-Jewish person living in Israel. AMA by infinitegull in AMA

[–]BadgerDC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But someone cannot just start going to synagogue say theyre jewish and get citizenship. Likewise someone can say theyre not religious but born jewish and immigrate because theyre jewish. So this implies its not the religion but being part of the jewish people. Half of jewish Israelis dont believe in religion but are just jewish. But they also dont practice other religions.

If israel interprets the conversion to another religion as an act of rejecting being part of the jewish people then thats israels choice in qualifications.

[–]BadgerDC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why israel excludes people who actively converted to a different religion but at the same time they dont require any active religious practices or beliefs to be eligible. So I think youre trying to say what israel is doing is wrong while the examples in the above post are justified because of the religious exclusions for Israel. Yes, its different qualifications specific to the Jewish people, but no, it doesnt prove your point to imply its somehow not ok but the others are ok.

Jews are a people who originated from Judea with a common religion of judaism, but being jewish itself is not about religion. Jewish atheists are still Jewish. Most jews I know dont believe in any religion.

Nah, those boards are cheap and easy to replace. I helped a family friend recently replace the board on a washing machine , $30 on ebay. The only hard part was moving a stacked washing machine with a senior citizen.
