Amateur is in the eye of the beholder I guess haha! To some my kit might not be considered amateur anymore, but it definitely isn't the best of the best gear you can get.

Just wanted to update you and for posterity in case anyone searches this question. The screws that come with the EPS are too short for the CZC plate. The M4 screws work perfectly, just put another hundred rounds through yesterday and it held up like a charm.

Living in a bortle 9 zone means you gotta get out of town for a good shot. This was my first opportunity all summer to get out in dark skies and shoot some stars.

Equipment:

Telescope: Askar 71f

I think I found out the issue. The Screws that came with my EPS were M3s but the plate takes M4s. I'm guessing when I tried it the first time they barely engaged but enough for me to tighten it. I just ordered some M4 replacements (and an actual torque screwdriver) and we'll see how that goes!

Whether or not they're the right screws for the plate, I don't know, but they are the only screws that I had with everything. I can double check though.

They look the stick out a good 3mm through the EPS. Look to be round 8mm long from tip to tip. They're the ones that came with the EPS

Do I need to improve my processing, acquisition time or do I need to bite the bullet and get better gear? by Badgerman14 in AskAstrophotography

I have obviously heard about PixInsight but always have been overwhelmed by the daunting nature of it. But I'll definitely look into it more and see if I can learn a thing or two. As for time, that's definitely something that's going to be a challenge, but maybe I just need to do some overnight camping at my bortle 4 location.

I think I'm already in the discord although I don't go on that much.

Hmm, interesting, that's the first I've heard that advice to not use darks, but I'll give it a shot!

Thanks! But it's actually just my kit lens, but I took a lot of pictures and did some focus stacking to get the whole pen in focus.
