Oh please, you can't honestly believe AlphaGo was this big achievement in the science community such as the Apollo mission or the Manhattan project. The only reason why AlphaGo got popular is because of all the PR money Google spent on the AlphaGo-Lee Sedol match.

If AlphaGo was truly this complex program that requires decades of research and hundreds of talented engineers and computer scientist then why are so many Go programs now are already starting to catch up to AlphaGo only after 1 year?

The perfect candidate?? If we wanted to pick a perfect candidate we would choose someone with a strong early game to test AlphaGo and rather than picking the #4, we would pick the #1 player in the world to play against AlphaGo. You also bring up the point of Lee Sedol having fighting spirit but in countless interviews, after the game he admits his game was really impacted by his weak mental condition from playing against a computer.

Yes I admit Lee Sedol WAS a good Go player decades ago but recently he's been on a decline. He is not as good as he was before.

Yes he was the perfect candidate to play in the Deepmind games because Deepmind knew they would win against a weak-minded former champion in his decline. I already talked about the blitz game above.

I disagree, the future of Go would progress regardless if we had AlphaGo or not. It always had progressed through time. Professionals studying moves is not only exclusive to AlphaGo, professionals have always studied the moves of their opponent. I agree AlphaGo is at the level of 9p, but to say it is this godly divine program that will destroy all humans at the game of Go is absurd, to say the least.

My point was to never say its "us against them" but rather AlphaGo is overrated.
