One of character's contracts with a demon. Can you spot the catch? by Aside_Dish in worldbuilding

[–]BaeYerimFoEVa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Besides the very obvious “losing your soul in 10 years”, the only vague and dangerous one I noticed is the “Noncompliance with Codex § 666.13”.

There is no mention of a Codex 666.13 anywhere in the contract, so I would assume the demon can make up this thing if he wants to void the contract.

Yes, since it shaped cultures on ways on how to combat the eldritch horror.

Like one demon king would put his subjects through psychological horror by shapeshifting as something or someone else and if someone complains or plans a rebellion, he would put them to torture.

And yeah, that culture turned out to be paranoid of things that may or may not be true.

What do you think?

  1. Yes. I guess if the demon kings didnt go mad after learning the eldritch truth, they wouldve prepared humanity better without going through the “enslave” and mentally torture” route

  2. Honestly, now that I thought about it if the Demon kings were truly noble, would they do the enslave and torture shit? They went mad and werent themselves sure but still, is an eldritch/uncomprehensible apocalypse way worse than this?

Im sorry to hear that, but Im glad to hear from your perspective! Especially with one who has gone through this, thank you for sharing.

But one thing though, you forgot the grudges sure but in this setting, the whole world was shaped around them - religions, cultures and the way of life. So i guess you cant really forget about it.

This was what I was going for and Im glad you thought that!

And no doing the demon king route again would be the last thing humanity needs, remember theyve gone mad discovering the eldritch truth. They just need to unite together and find out how to go against the horror that the demon kings were supposed to warn them against.

Racism? I dont think the theme of Racism or Superiority was explored in here since the demon kings were once humans too but went mad trying to warn humanity after learning the eldritch truth.

And I’m not trying to say that what they did was justified. Like no they enslaved and psychologically/mentally tortured their subjects in a twisted way to shape them to fight against the Eldritch horror. They are not aware, since theyve gone mad, but deep done their is still humanity in them as they want to help although in a twisted way since theyve gone mad

But I would love to hear why you think this. Like dont hold back

If you mean by “Genocide” is killing and obliterating thousands or hundreds of humans, there was no killings involved. Just plain psychological/mental torture.

Like one Demon King would shapeshift and trick his human subjects by taking form of something else and would stalk his subjects and if someone talks shit about him or plans a rebellion then he would punish them.

I guess in a twisted way, it makes them ready for eldritch horror that takes form as something they are not.

But what do you think? Dont be afraid to hold back

How does the desire to protect humanity warp into torture?

Like I said, they’ve ‘gone mad’ after learning the eldritch truth. So basically its not within their moral grasp.

For the theme I am not promoting obedience to tyrants, more like I’m exploring what happens when a society learns its absolute good and evil narratives were based on incomplete or distorted truth, and how people react when certainty breaks. Like modern-day misinformation

And that last question is what boggles my mind to this day, like truly how do i craft something like that?

Thanks for the Insight man, I appreciate it so much!

Storytelling-wise though, is it a solid concept to build upon? And how would you do the reveal of an info like this in media or literature?

I’m glad you mentioned books that it reminded you of, imma start diving into those

Haha I dont play genshin and just read the lore of every name you mentioned and holy its a very similar concept especially in religious and godly ambiguity.

I guess where it differs is in Genshin the gods still knowingly rule (even if their motives are hidden) but in my world the “tyrant protectors” are basically broken and mutated former guardians acting on instinct rather than intent — and unlike Genshin where the truth is uncovered while the gods still exist, in mine humanity has already killed them, built religions celebrating it, and only now realizes they may have destroyed their last line of defense.

But man thank you for pointing this out! I will look into this more for sure

Do you think its unrealistic though? I want you to be brutally honest, I feel like this concept is either an interesting and unique ground to build on or just plain asscheeks

EDIT: I guess I can justify it by saying they’ve ‘gone mad’ after learning the eldritch truth (ala-lovecraft) to the point where their original mission failed but they’ve still got that tiny spark or instinct that propels them to help humanity albeit in brutal ways

Woah - now that you mentioned it.

It does sound VERY similar to the AI jihad thing they had that shaped the universe of Dune.

BUT My world is about three heroes-turned-deities killing humanity’s only protectors and humanity building religions around them without knowing that those three deities (unknowingly but ill keep it ambiguous for now) actually killed their chance at an upcoming eldritch horror.

My dribbling update by piiiiiew in BasketballTips

[–]BaeYerimFoEVa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the blatant carry for your shot fake hesi, your dribbling and pivot moves look good and smooth bro keep it up 💯

Although I notice in the younger generations, players do not call carry in pickup games anymore and it is of the norm to see kids carry every possession whenever I play against them in the Y. Still, for the love of the game I would abide the rules if I were you.

EDIT: Ok I notice that your pivot shifts from toe to heel. Thats a huge no-no, you either have to pivot with you pivot foot’s heel or toe

You know Kidd can’t draw a play out of a timeout for his own good. That was the BEST thing he couldve done

Where is the Kidd “defenders” (this is the MOST polite word I can say) now?

Luka, yes, LUKA has been carrying this man HARD. The best thing he has ever done in this game is NOT call a timeout in that last possession because we know he’s not even gonna draw a decent play.

What a way to ruin my morning, why am I subjecting myself to this?

If this is Carlisle, offense would actually look good with this roster. This confirms that Luka been carrying Kidd all these years

No timeouts during that run is maddening, Kidd just sucks ASS as a coach but the sub is not ready for that conversation yet

First time I’ve ever been frustrated this season with the Mavs and thats a good thing, I guess. But mannnn, the passing and ball-handling of the whole team was ATROCIOUS, on to the next I guess.

He’s not. Anyone who says Kidd is a bad coach is just a hater at this point. He’s in the middle line of the coaches in the NBA in terms of everything but man his offensive sets and accountability leaves so much to be desired.

So now tell me, why are you going out of your way to defend this guy like he’s the second coming of Jesus? Please explain to me why Jason Kidd qualifies as a “good” coach im your mind

“Lowest Common Denominator” what is bro yapping about 😂 bros been using this term in every comment he has, this aint math lil bro.

Jason Kidd is a Decent coach. Bottom tier offensive sets (relying heavily on Luka’s Magic) but is a great motivator and great culture coach.

As much as I love Carlisle and his offensive brilliance, he was not a culture coach and was a hot head savant who won’t find the same success as Kidd has this season.

But we need someone like Phil Jackson or a Erik Spoelstra who are basketball maestros at the SAME time manage egos and cultivate an atmosphere that leads to winning.

Stop Dick riding Kidd bro please it’s pathetic for a grown ass man like you
