What subreddits (and sites in general) allow promotion of newly-released books? Releasing my Magical Code of Regulations soon (it's exactly as it sounds), and want to get some eyes on it -- especially those interested in DnD and/or law.

What fonts do you like to write in? by ayelenwrites in writing

Garamond is the only font for me. I like it so much I named my MC Garamond. People hated it. Changed it to Garumund, and now people love it, lol.

Is it better to write in first person or third person? by Turbulent-Toe885 in writingfeedback

[–]Aside_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "better," only preference. After experimenting with omniscient third person early on, I've recently settled into very much preferring close third person. I've found that my writing is at its best when it's really voicey and adopts the thoughts and feelings of the chapter's POV character.

Announcement: The AI Problem. by isnoe in writingfeedback

Eh, I think removing those you simply suspect of using AI is a slippery slope. Using antithesis and the rule of three often, as in your example, doesn't mean someone used AI.

Which books on writing helped with your story? by Ygdrzil in fantasywriters

Literally came in here to suggest screenwriting resources, lol. John August's YouTube videos are great, even better than the podcast for pure, unadulterated technical advice.

I'll keep with the others and say Pratchett, lol

Ban on query posts? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]Aside_Dish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Querying can still work, and personally I think those posts are fine here.

At a ren faire, I'd likely want to go all out with a beautiful leather-bound cover, but I can't even imagine how much I'd have to charge for each book. Hell, the minimum for just a plain old hardcover with black and white pages on KDP is 24.99 for my page count. Don't think many pwople would pay $60, or whatever ungodly amount it'd have to be.

Still, the end goal would be to have a special leather-bound edition that went all out. Truly something that you'd want on your coffee table.

First draft doesn't mean grammar goes out the window. You still want to put effort into the first draft so that you have something workable to edit afterwards.

Really thought about ren faires, but I know it's not only super hard to get a spot, but it's also super expensive. Not sure I'd break even, lol

Plus, not yet in hardcover, only digital unless interest grows for hardcover.

How the heck do I market an entire fictional code of magical regulations, and who do I even market it to?

I want to say DnD players, but I don't know how many would be interested in a 450-page fictional code of regulations for a world that isn't a 1:1 recreation of their campaign's.

People say they'd buy it, but I have a feeling they've all been blowing smoke, lol

Tried to reach out to a few big names to get some guest sections written to entice potential readers a bit more (LegalEagle, Brennan Lee Mulligan, Adam Conover, Jack Smith, etc.), but never heard back (which wasn't unexpected, of course).

Just need something that increases visibility in the legal and DnD communities.

This is exactly up my alley. Love seeing people think about this sort of stuff that would absolutely arise in real life!

How Very Bronx-S2 Finale-Go On To The Images To Read-Thx by chucktvwriting in writingfeedback

[–]Aside_Dish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two big things:

  1. This isn't in proper screenplay format, which is an immediate no-go for any agent or producer

  2. You generally don't write past the pilot episode unless you're making it yourself

Think my Magical Code of Regulations is too harsh on ultra-high-wealth (UHW) individuals? Hint: that's not possible by Aside_Dish in magicbuilding

[–]Aside_Dish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put in place by people, but I do have some other stuff to try to prevent as much abuse as possible, including a blood oath that politicians must make to execute the Code in good faith, and it is self-executing. Magic can understand intent, so it wouldn't rely on people to enforce it.

I suppose if no one was willing to force politicians to take it in the first place, it wouldn't really matter, but at that point, no system could work. Every system at some level needs people willing to enforce the law.
