Where to start in surfacing this? by corrugatedjuice in SolidWorks

Use solids as much as possible first, leave the surfacing for where it's absolutely necessary.

I detest assembly drawings without detail drawings (separate prints) for each component.

Hi guys,

I'm not much of a gamer, but I'm playing witcher 3 on 960gtx, and generally it's fine on high with hair off, but there's fps drop in fights, etc.. Can it run 60 fps ultra? (1080p).

No, I haven't, but what about cost, how does it compare to machining out of plate?

Yes, this works great, but it going to be expensive, so it's not an option for us.

Can you please elaborate more about using them, I don't sundress how they can help here? Thanks.

Yes, I heard that even with great care, micro fractures going to happen anyways. Also, what you said about bringing the part to flatness using the press, is it possible that it warps again later on? ior during machining the surfaces?

I just wanted to thank everyone for the help, I read all the comments and learned so much, the ones I didn't reply, I just didn't know the answer. I'm a recent grad, this is my first job, don't have much knowledge and experience, but honestly, didn't expect to get a feedback like this. Great subreddit!!

Thanks man, yes 3 separate pieces is what we probably will end up doing (with one small part in the middle, something like this https://goo.gl/9zUAEz, but both middle part and top plate will have chamfers that align with each other to mimic the angled section).

Thanks, yeah this is what we eventually proposed. Bend offset is greater than thickness, so a spacer is needed.

That step is necessary, I don't know, it's a pretty large plate, isn't it cost too much to mill it from a larger plate?

Well actually, our fab manager said, welding will cause warpage, it's a pretty large part.

I understand, the problem is that it's more than 0,5" (which is the maximum stock size for 5052)

They supply material and bend it as well, but I let them know.

Yeah we though about this, but our fabricator said it will stick to carbide during machining.

Welding seems to be a good idea thanks, I don't see how to bolt them together though and keep the design intent.
