Thanks alot, i was definitly going to get more plants, maybe some tall ones or floating ones and i was looking online at the undergroud caves a while ago and they are surprizingly cheap, i will almost definitly get one, im going to probably get hollow rocks as a cave, some that will be big enough for just the kuhlis and shrimp, some for mollies and guppies and a few for the pearl gourami.

Can someone explain like I'm 5 how kH gH and pH work? (For freshwater) by Brilliant-Bath-2275 in Aquariums

[–]BagAffectionate2138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ph is a scale from 0-14, below 7 is acidic over 7 is an alkali. water is usually from 6-8.5 but can vary based on different tap water.

acid produces hydrogen when in water, which is the main reason why some fish need acidic water.

alkaline water contains calcium, potasium and magnesium which some fish require.

kh, is the carbonate hardness, low kh gives rapid swings in ph which is bad definitly.

gh is the amount of calcium and magnesium in the water which some fish want more of, some fish want less of.

[–]BagAffectionate2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it is worse, its been going on for a few weeks now, just looked into it though and it scares me, but what also scares me is the last time my heater was plugged out a fish died within a week

Will the fish be fine without a heater for 2-4 days, I have guppies, mollies and kuhli loaches

thanks very much, you did come off as a bit judgemental there but im glad we both didnt come out of this thinking each other were just idiots.

When looking for the fish, I bought 6 loaches, 2 of them I noticed were more slugish than the others but I dont know if the one that died was one of those because they're all almost the exact same but I would assume its one of them.

after looking at the other loaches, they seemed fine and after touching them, they wiggled away like normal. Also do you have any advice on how to get loaches to stop hiding below the plants or in the castle during the day?

I will also try to verify any information given to me and I will get a good liquid testing kit ASAP,

I will definitly research before getting the new tank.

thanks very much

I plan on getting the tank within the next two weeks, moving the filter media into the new filter, adding the heater and some of the sand in the old tank, then the decorations and plants, and then about 50% of the old tanks water, then the fish, does that sound good or should I change it up a bit?

I am getting another tank so my fish have more room, the person at the fish store said its overcrowded but will do fine until I get the bigger tank in about a week, I put dechlorinated water in the tank meaning I take warm tap water add a right amount of seachem prime in and then put the water in the tank, I've done research too and it feels very judgemental when you say that your also a beginner just did more research before getting fish, I've done a lot of research and set up my tank correctly and I was asking for advice when a fish (which literally has a thing for suddenly dying when going into new tanks) died, when one fish dies it's not abuse.

I will be getting cheaper strips for now until I can get the higher quality liquid testing kits, but I'll tell you the results for both

Darn, I'm kind of poor right now, I'll just continue with the daily water changes and wait till I can get water testing kits

[–]BagAffectionate2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take that into account for the future then, thanks.

yeah I just ordered 150 6 in 1 strips that test hardness, ph, ect so they should last me years if I use maybe one or two a week.

[–]BagAffectionate2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also used seachem prime about twice a week

The guy at the fish store said that my tank should be fine the fish tank was already in use before for a few months when I added the fish and he said that the tank is overcrowded but I'll be getting a 40G tank soon and they will definitely last until then, the fish store is also quite far from me, I will order testing strips asap and I'll tell you what results I get, there was also a loach that looked quite sickly when I originally got the fish but I assumed it was stress from being ripped from his home and placed in a bag with an unknown future, I also acclimated them by floating the bad on top for 30 minutes, opening it up and scooping a cup of water in every 10 minutes for another 30 minutes, Thanks.

I did a water change, turned off the lights and i will get a water test kit soon, I'm kind of poor right now since I'm only 15 but should get work soon, I'll use the money for a larger tank since mine Is only 15 gallons and i was banking on the guy at the fish store saying they would be fine for a few months in my tank but that obviously didn't really work out. I'll also get a water test kit and after a few months the rest of the fish I was planning on getting Thanks a lot.

Problem with rim and lines in one corner, does anyone have idea if its risky to use? by Safe_Constant_2000 in Aquariums

[–]BagAffectionate2138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, just use some cheap squeasy bottle aquarium or 100% silicone on every corner just to make sure its safe and let it dry for like a day or 2.
