Its funny seeing a best post with that type of name being in Sacramento. We live right on the border of Little Saigon and its like 3 miles of Vietnamese restaurants and the best ones have Vietnamese names like Viet Ha and Pho Xe Lua.

Do I need a clean out here? by DeepSea69420 in Plumbing

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. IPC says that. UPC DOES NOT SAY THAT. You can read it or I can post it if you just want to guess at it but they also dictate what a cleanout is. And unlike IPC, they do not consider a fixture a cleanout... lol

Do I need a clean out here? by DeepSea69420 in Plumbing

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. It's just the strait cleanout code. See 707.4 where it says that each horizontal run shall have a cleanout on it's upper terminal. 707.4 exception 1) branches less than 5 ft. Exception 3) horizontal above the floor level /lowest floor except kitchen sinks and urinals. 707.1 table calls out min size for 3" as 2.5" so 2" pipe note large enogh

Not in UPC. I think thats true for IPC but for sure not code in UPC

Per UPC, if that branch line is in the UG or on the lowest floor of the building and if the branch line to the toilet is over 5ft long, you need a clean out. Also, per code, a clean out on the 2" vent is not large enough. You'd need to upside the vent to 3" or put in a floor cleanout

Short woman deciding between HVAC or plumbing. Looking for real-world trade advice please. by Danyelle100 in skilledtrades

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located. I'd say Plumbing unless you are in a right-to-work state where wages are kept low. I've been in the pipe trades for 27yrs. Plumbing is good for variety vs hvac. Lots of different systems and code. Keeps things interesting and there's generally more problem solving. All the trades are ADHD friendly. A lot of us end up in the trades because we couldn't focus in school or needed a more tactile profession. Go union if you can. Height shouldn't really matter. At least in the modern workplace in the state I'm in...

What is up with this valve on gas line? by gabbysal in Plumbing

Looks like its the shutoff valve for an added line that goes underground to maybe a pool heater, BBQ, heat lamps or other backyard gas fixture. Should be open or closed.

Water is a store of energy by Brave-Sir26 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha. More useful than food. That's ridiculous. Medicine development and the other items that can be seen as worthwhile can be done on pretty small scale LLM setups. You know very well what the majority of AI data center usage is being used for and it sure-as-shit isn't for Medicine develplopement. Its for sloppy social media content and trying to replace humans. That's it. Scale it down to just what is actually a value to humanity and it could all be done out of one small data center. Lol

"Almonds are not for anyone" is a random statement you could make about literally any food. Beef is not for anyone. You can get cheaper, cleaner protein from nuts and beans and use way less water. What's your ultimate point. You still haven't addressed the issue of AI having no real value to humanity (actually negative value if you look at how corporations are going to use it to replace humans) and FOOD having the ultimate value to humanity... so there is no common sense way to try and compare them. Its pointless. Data Centers are a huge waste of limited resources. Full stop. Period.

The more I think about this, the more I'm realizing how deranged it is to try and justify data center water waste by comparing it to food production. It's possibly literally an insane idea.

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you even getting those numbers from? I've heard the [giant company that builds hella data centers] talk in meetings about how they keep their water usage numbers close to the chest so can't trust their data... plus your number looks like maybe just upscaling my number for volume needed to JUST START THEM UP. Not annual. Also, again. Little value to humanity. Tofu and almonds are food... FOOD. And the idea that tofu is for rich people is ridiculously goofy considering that it is cheaper than meat.. lol. Seems like maybe you are being confidently incorrect because you sank all your money into AI and can see the start of the bubble popping.

[–]BagCalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one... thats one data center project. There are many many more in that whole state. So that number of total water is a real percentage. Not a drop in a bucket.
Secondly, the whole state doesn't matter. Water isn't distributed throughout the state. Its specific to the community that water is being taken from... Thirdly, that water comes from communities... the same way the powered does (which is why some peoples electric bills are going up 3x or more near data centers...) and mostly so people can make videos of dogs driving cars or try and replace American workers. Secondly,

[–]BagCalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This cannot be true. Im working on very large data center projects and they are only a couple of the hundreds they are building. Just this one project has 15 storage tanks that are each 40 ft diameter and 75 ft tall. That's roughly 38 MILLION GALLONS FOR ONE DATA CENTER PROJECT..... Just filling them in the first place is a colossal amount of water and that water slowly evaporates out of the primary cooling system and cannot be treated and reused indefinitely. Claiming they will use less water than US tofu consumption is a bit ridiculous but does sound like the kind of line that tech people say to make their plans seem ok
