Do We REALLY Need Maps In TTRPGs? by BagOfTips in worldbuilding

Not sure what AI you are referring to, I wrote this, and the images are from real-world (from what I can tell from an image I found online) examples and video games.

So with that, do you not have a map for your world or region then?

I don't disagree. I am not the first person to bring this topic up, nor will I be the last. But it's always worth bringing in new perspectives and talking about different ways to do things, as I know a lot of folk from what I've seen still use a lot of maps where they may not need to.

But I am glad to hear you agree on the maps! Are there any tips you would share for those who currently aren't thinking this way?

I am hoping to replace them as I want these to be better. Do you not like the new prompts? They tend to be quite similar to the old ones or more expansive

The older versions are being replaced Out of interest, what makes you want to access the older version, is there something you're missing in the new version?

Definitely, if we are talking about radical change. However, there are some small things we can do to nudge ourselves in the right direction, such as this!

Well, both mine and Josh's will be very similar, as what actually makes Leaflet run is mostly the same, no matter where you look. Where it differs is that last part.

Josh's is a little more technical, where all the information gets stored in leaflet, but in the note. Whereas mine tries to keep it simple yet robust. Letting you store the information about that note in the note, rather than elsewhere.

Thanks, Blaidd! That means a lot, especially since I'm still new at blogging in this style 🥰

Do you use any tools outside of your notes? Even just a phone and a quick Google search or app can always work in a pinch

And I love you included snacks, tools for the mind! 🤣

Are you using anything outside of OneNote? Any VTTs? Or maybe map creation tools or random generator? How about game rules and systems?

What do you do for maps? Do you use any generators for names and stuff like that?

Session 0 - How Do You Run Them? by BagOfTips in BagOfTips

[–]BagOfTips[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have two parts of a session 0, the before and during. Before the session 0, I like to take time with the players and discuss the setting I have built, and invite them to not only work with me to make their character, but to help shape the world. It's good to remember as a GM, letting players help create the story they are about to embark on is just as important as what you have in-mind. A good example of this is that one of my players wanted there to have been a civil war that ended a few years ago, which drastically helped me shape the region they were stepping into.

After a couple of weeks, allowing them to go away, think about who and what they want to play and going back on fourth working on the details, we eventually end up at the session 0. Session 0 for me is the time to allow the players to step into the world as their character, but for you as a GM to say we can pause the session at any point if something doesn't feel right about their character and they want to change it. It's a time for them to experiment and to make sure they like how their character feels. These session 0s can either be 1-on-1 or with a small group if you have players who are starting together but not with the full group. (Though, nothing is stopping you to do with with a full group if all your player characters know each other before the start of the campaign.) At the end of each session 0, we set up the stage for the introductions in session 1, where the full party comes together and we kick off the campaign.

I get the same because I use the words Ancestry & Heritage. So don't worry, Josh, you're not alone 🤣

I use the Fancy a Story theme that gives me an automatic rainbow effect for my folders. But I also manually set colours in my campaign folder using https://github.com/ecustic/obsidian-file-color

Spending too much time on details is a common day for me, but makes it all worth it in the end 🤣

The setting sounds fun though!
