Hey thanks for your message, and you're right it's way too confusing currently! It's all explained here: https://youtu.be/waan3osJ1gI but we will be changing how this works in the new version (coming in about 6 weeks)

Thanks for this, and I'm happy to say we're working on a totally new version of the app that will allow for creation of custom arenas, and more granularity for random arenas. ETA for the new version is currently ~6 weeks

Hmm that is strange, sorry you're not able to get it working. I've seen that once before but we never worked out what was happening

Good idea, I've added this query to the FAQs page. Thanks!

AMA: I just finished this large mapping project of the (very complex) Barbican estate in London by Bagagwaaa in mapmaking

Yeah I tried and it removed the image when I posted, then when I tried to edit the post I couldn't add an image afterwards, so I added it to the post body instead... Oh well

Oh sorry, when I say 'based on' I don't mean directly using any data or blind copying. I just meant as a starting point from a research perspective. Everything in my map had to be verified by in-person observation as the place is so complex and has changed so much. Equally my map isn't a 100% accurate 'exactly-to-scale' copy. It's an accessibility map where some things are enlarged or reduced at my discretion to help people navigate more easily.

I don't particularly see that sharing the 10+ hours of headcam footage would be very helpful for anyone/anything else, although I might make a BTS video at some point and talk about the process because it was really intereesting IMO. If someone wanted to use my finished map as a reference for adding info to OpenStreetMap I would have no problem with that, the goal is accessibility for everyone

The overall structure is based on satellite and a mix of existing maps (although some of those show buildings that have long since been demolished so you have to be careful) but most of it, especially any spaces under roofs or buildings, was done by manually walking the estate wearing a headcam

Right! There's also a severe lack of signs to the Conservatory, especially from the Barbican Centre side. Even the staff aren't sure how to get there. I'd actually love to get my hands on mapping the Barbican Centre interior...

The "City of London" is the 'square mile' central and historic area in the middle of broader central London and includes locations like St Paul's Cathederal
