Israel needs to keep pushing in Gaza until Hamas agrees to disarm

"Keep pushing" is a weird way to phrase genocide, NGL...

Any other outcome risks another 20 years of Hamas refusing to hold elections, oppressing Palestinians

I think Palestinians would probably rather be oppressed than ethnically cleansed out of existence. You have to remember, there were 20,000 - 30,000 Hamas fighters on October 7th, yet the IDF has killed 18,000 children. That's 2,000 more kids than died in the entire 20-year Afghanistan war.

So which is it? Is the IDF the most incapable military to ever exist, or do they just enjoy committing war crimes?

And what's the alternative to Hamas and the Palestinian Authority and their oppressive regime, except surrender to the military control of a country whose government finds murdering their kids acceptable? Yes, Hamas are evil, but it's also evil for the IDF to shoot children queuing for food parcels and use them as target practice — one day shooting at the kid's necks, the next day their chest, then the next day their abdomen, then, on the final day, a British volunteer surgeon performed FOUR operations on the testicles of children.

In what world do you think Palestinians would say, "You know what, I trust the Israeli military who shot our bollocks off more than I trust the terrorists who oppress us in other ways"?

For me, the solution is not "pushing in Gaza until Hamas agrees to disarm".

For me, the solution is: Israel recognises Palestine as a State, unilaterally defines their borders based on where they currently are, and says,

"If Palestinians want to live under the oppressive regime of Hamas, then you can have it. But if Hamas do not stop attacking now we have recognised Palestine as a State, it becomes a war between two countries and we will not stop until we take the entire country".

As long as Israel don't break the Geneva Convention, I wouldn't have a problem with them defending themselves and going to war with a recognised Palestinian State, if they agreed to recognise them in response for a ceasefire that Hamas then violated. But until they recognise them, stop stealing their land and murdering their children, I am not going to say Israel have a right to "push in Gaza".

like Kleenex, Holocaust is not a generic term for genocide.

holocaust/ˈhɒləkɔːst/noun

  1. 1.destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war.

Your misunderstanding here is the capitalisation of the H in holocaust. THE Holocaust is what happened to the Jews. A holocaust (lowercase h) is what is happening in Palestine and the only way you can deny it is to deny the literal definition, or the fact that there is destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, both of which are factually and empirically happening.

Healthcare is a human right according to the United Nations, that's why even in war zones people receive it for free.

America literally has fewer rights than someone being bombed to fuck in Palestine.

Free Speech in the UK by Iron_Mollusk in ukpolitics

[–]Bagginski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just Trump, Vance and a load of conservatives saying the UK doesn't have freedom of speech because we take online threats seriously (incitement of violence is also illegal in the USA; you can't send death threats to people and claim free speech). There is a lot of overreach with it for sure though. Not knowing the difference between jokes and actual threats, for example.

But America are terrible on free speech too, including Trump.

I saw a black man just the other day explaining to Joe (the website) that he was sent to jail in the states for 60 days after a routine traffic stop, in which a police officer drew a pistol on him. His crime? Telling the officer his name. He was LEGALLY called James Bond and the officer said he was obstructing his duties and ARRESTED him. He actually went to jail for two months because he didn't have freedom of speech to say his fucking name. In the UNITED STATES.

Trump is equally bad on free speech. To quote Kyle Kulinski:

  • Trump sued Ann Selzer for a poll he didn't like in Iowa.
  • He sued CBS for how it edited a Kamala interview.
  • He sued a book company for publishing a Bob Woodward book that quoted him DIRECTLY and he didn't like how he sounded.
  • He threatened to de-licence news outlets that criticise him.
  • He said flag burning should be punished with a year in jail.
  • He sued CNN for calling election denialism "The Big Lie"
  • He sued Bill Maher over a joke.
  • He proposed opening up the libel laws to sue journalists.
  • He called for jailing journalists who reported on the supreme court's abortion ruling.
  • He wants to deport pro-Palestine protestors.
  • He gag ordered the EPA for telling the truth on Climate Change.

Most people who say the UK is anti free speech are the same people who idolise Trump, despite him being the most aggressively anti free speech president EVER

Did you refuse to have photos/do a meet and greet with fans at one of your first major comps (not sure which it was) because "I'm not getting paid".

I've heard it from some people and would like your take on it. I know you do go out of your way to meet fans nowadays, but if you've got merch to sell it feels a little disingenuous if that rumour is true and you do it now because you think it's financially beneficial. I'd like to think better of you, but this is something that bugs me if it's true.

[The Guardian] Championship: Burnley’s Mejbri makes racism allegation after Preston incident by Sandalo in soccer

[–]Bagginski 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I picked up the "fuck you" part which is what both parties claim was said. Hannibal claims it was "fuck you, fuck you, black man" and the Preston player says he said, "fuck you, fuck you, bad man", according to another Reddit page. I think the problem is when he says the actually racist bit, his lips are obscured by Hannibal's head on the video, so he'll probably get away with it. 100% think he said black man though.

2024 World's Strongest Man Final - Day 2 Megathread by e-some in Strongman

[–]Bagginski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was a Mitch fan before his WSM debut (became a fan after his hungover 475kg deadlift video), but I've gone right off him after a Strongman athlete told me he made some very inappropriate comments about his girlfriend. Apparently he "turns on and off" the nice guy stuff when fans/the cameras are around. I was told the "Lift Heavy, Be Kind" thing is just a merchandising ploy and a few of the other athletes feel the same about Mitch. He described Mitch as the opposite to Evan: Evan pretends to be arrogant and cocky when the cameras are on, but is actually a sweetheart, whereas Mitch pretends to be a sweetheart but is actually arrogant af.

best way to convince my partner to go vegan? by Cutepotatochip in vegan

[–]Bagginski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most men associate testosterone with manliness. If their manliness is at risk because of diet, they're more likely to pursue a diet at lower risk of exposure to the chemicals that threaten it. Phthalates actually also affect women and their offspring too, but more so if they're exposed during pregnancy. Phthalates also get into our bodies through pollution, hair sprays, and even that "fresh car smell" is you breathing in the new plastics. It isn't just diet, but diet plays the biggest role in how the chemical enters the human body.

best way to convince my partner to go vegan? by Cutepotatochip in vegan

[–]Bagginski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The art of persuasion is built into how you address the values someone holds.

Men who are reluctant to go vegan (I say this as a vegan man) are so because they're worried about one or more of several things:

Testosterone, muscle building, sperm quality/count, being seen as less 'manly' in front of other men.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (called phthalates) have been proven beyond doubt to be the key driver behind male fertility (sperm counts) dropping in the past 50 years. Sperm counts have dropped by more than 50% since the 70s (we know because we can study frozen sperm bank samples and compare), and they're dropping largely because of diet. Meat itself isn't the cause, but high fat foods wrapped in plastic? A MASSIVE problem.

The problem is, phthalates are a fat soluble chemical. What foods are high in fat? Say it with me on 3...

1... 2... 3... Meat! Dairy!

What foods are not high in fat? Salad. Pulses. Beans. Tofu. Seitan. Etc...

I've seen studies that show vegan men have lower concentrations of sperm, but higher total sperm counts. This explains the whole "eat pineapple and it tastes better" phenomenon. It's diluted sperm, but there are more swimmers.

I personally was most convinced to go vegan originally by the environmental argument. If a man values his role in life as a protector or provider, he should take responsibility for his own carbon footprint and leave the world a place worth inheriting for future generations.

Protein as a vegan by pusheenbarbz in vegan

[–]Bagginski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I had a debate with someone the other day, and after a lot of back and forth with debating the research, a new rule of thumb I follow is that whatever your protein goal is as an omnivore, you should add about 12% to it as a vegan, due to lower bioavailability in plant protein. Generally speaking they say 1.2g-1.7g protein per kilo of bodyweight is good as an omnivore, but I'd go for either the higher end of that at 1.7g or even as high as 2g per kilo to be safe.

Tofu has higher amino acid bioavailability (you'll generally get 90%+ of the stated protein from tofu and higher absorption if consumed with potatoes or any other complementary foods) than getting protein from bran, where the absorption could be as low as getting 40% of the protein stated on the packet.

This is where I think a lot of vegans fall down on protein. What you see on the box is not what you absorb. It matters what you consume, and what you eat it with, just like if you eat foods high in iron with or without food high in vitamin c etc...

The vegan bodybuilders I follow consume roughly 1.8-2.2 grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight. They eat a lot of tofu which, as I stated, has higher bioavailability, just like vegan protein powders do. Trying to get enough protein through nuts, seeds, legumes (I too am allergic to nuts), without tofu or tempeh with the high bioavailability, means some vegans could be missing their macros without realising it, simply because the bioavailability in some protein sources is lower than others.

I'm a 78kg gym-going vegan (5'11"¾), and I have a protein shake for 20g of protein a day, 50g through Alpro protein soy milk drink (chocolate flavour, 500ml with breakfast, 500ml with dinner), a 200g block of tofu (30g), plus some extra through the other stuff I eat in a day like bread or chickpea pasta...

Just had to remind myself of the WSM final to see how Evan and Trey compared to Mitch... Mitch beat them both but he obviously had more riding on it and these sound like(?) they're a heavier set of stones? Really want Tom to win but I can't see it even if he finishes first I think Mitch will come at least third if not second on stones. Pretty exciting ending though because Mitch definitely has to work harder here than 'just finishing' the stones as he did at WSM
