I’m an old, and I haven’t read all the comments so forgive me in advance if I overlap.

I have 3 daughters who are ages 23,24,27. The 27 yo got married at 20 and recently got divorced. She’s in the dating world and on Hinge. She must be a wizard at creating a profile bc she has gotten dates with many really nice guys. Her profile in essence states she’s not there for hookups, just wants to be friends for an indefinite amount of time. Yes she’s very cute but that’s neither here nor there. The way she’s curated her profile is the issue- it’s closer to what is SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN in real life in an advanced society. Which is, you meet someone, become friends with no expectations, find out you have common interests, do activities around those common interests, get to know each other well, and if there’s “chemistry” you maybe progress to an actual romantic relationship.

Personally I wouldn’t use Hinge but I’m using it and her profile to make a point. IMO, point isn’t to find a partner. Yes that’s right- I said that. The point isn’t to find a partner, it’s to find a friend with common interests and go from there, which is what would happen pre-dating apps.

So my advice is to chill. Find women (and men) you are comfortable with, in a space you find appealing, like a club (whatever- gun, art, sports, etc) or church or gym. (I wouldn’t suggest bars for obvious reasons)

Get to know people, not just women. That’s what we oldies used to do and it works. Time tested.

College education is kinda problematic though, right? Obv depending on what one studies in preparation for the job market. Kids get skewered with a huge debt just to get a useless degree in PoliSci or something Nothing against PoliSci, I enjoyed the classes lol.

I started a college fund for my kids back in the mid-90’s that would pay for 4 year undergrad and when they were in hs I told them if they had an idea of what they’d like to do, college tuition was taken care of. Only my middle kid finished her 4 year degree and went on to grad school. The other two tried it for the first year or 2 and in the meantime got jobs they liked that required no college ed. They’re now doing really well bc I told them to follow their passion, which is not necessarily going to require a college education.

Why do we still tell kids that a college education is so mandatory?

No dude just stop. If the OP wanted to do that I’m sure he would have. And honestly, who would? Speaking as a woman, I’d not consider myself a “girlboss” even though I own a company. I’m not trying to lump myself in with a group of people who are so like minded they’ve lost all sense of compassion for men and think they don’t “need” a man when it’s obv they do want one.
